"He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner."

Are there any like Zacchaeus among us? Can any of us say "I shall give HALF of my posses-sions to the poor, and if I have defrauded

anyone I will repay them four times over." There are some. But we live in a world in which "grabbing the brass ring" has, for many, turned into grabbing for all the money we can get, re-gardless of the means we use or harm we do to others. Yet there are people who "Do not do to others what you do not want others to do to you" [Rabbi Hillel]; who "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" [Jesus]. There are people who take responsibility for themselves and for others depend-ent on them; who share with people in need. Many people in the world have very little; some lack the basic necessities of life. They understand the need to share. St. Theresa of Cal-cutta tells of giving a cup of rice to the mother of a desperately poor family in the slums of India. The woman got a container, divide the rice in two and sent half to the family next to her. When asked why she did that she said, "They are hungry too." Are we aware of the hungry among us? Do we share what we have with them?

Christmas Ornament Incase you missed out last year, we are currently selling Sts. Joseph & Paul replica Christmas ornaments at the Parish Office. This fundraiser benefits Imagination Li-brary and Sts. Joseph & Paul! Cost is $15.

The Psalms remain one of my favorite mod-els of prayer. This morning, I was struck with Psalm 45:1 as a reminder to me of the good things that the Lord has done in my life. Psalm 45:1 reads, “My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.” Psalm 45 stands as a song of Thanksgiving to God, and it strikes me as

appropriate, after what the staff and I experienced this last week. The parish council and parishioners determined that it would be staff appreciation week. Each day of the week, a sur-prise arrived at the parish office acknowledging the hard work that our staff does each day. But my heart, was full, not just in gratitude for what everyone contributed, but more impor-tantly in that the many people of the parish took the time to recognize our hard-working staff. Such a simple task, though it likely took hours to orchestrate, reminded me of the gratitude that I have as serving as a priest at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. The many friendly faces, the assuring nods of prayer and support, and the simple daily interactions are all what is part of being present here in this parish. I will not speak on behalf of the staff, as I know that they are grateful as well and will share their gratitude in their own way; however, I will extend my gratitude to each of you sitting in the pews. Your presence here in this parish makes all the difference. I thank you for allowing me to be a priest in this parish. Because of your continued witness to charity and generosity, I am able to be reminded of how greatly blessed, highly favored and deeply loved we are here at Sts. Joseph and Paul.

Veterans Day ~ November 11 Consider the contributions of time, talent and dedicated effort that current and former people in military service provide to the well-being of persons and the protec-tion of our nation. Their self-sacrifice, care and generosity are noble. Let us remember them every day in prayer, expressions of gratitude, and in offerings of sup-port. If you know a veteran, thank him/her for their service to our country.

Zaqueo, sintiéndose pequeño y excluido, busca a Jesús.

Seasons of Discipleship Tri-Parish Mission with “Arise Preaching”

Fr. Brad Zamora Director of Liturgy

Mundelein Seminary

Fr. Matt O’Donnell Pastor, St. Columbanus

Chicago

The stories of the Gospel will come alive through story and song as we

embark on a journey of discipleship to remind us that we are LOVED. HEALED. ANOINTED. This mission affords us an opportunity to set away

some time to root ourselves more deeply in relationship with Christ and

challenge us to live our lives day to day rooted in God’s love throughout our Seasons of Discipleship. We experience God’s love through the waters

of baptism, we are healed through the mercy of reconciliation and we are anointed for our appointed journey to preach the Good News.
