LaGrange-Hostyn-Plum 968-5117 APRIL 2010

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE: Happy Easter!!!! I hope everyone is taking time to prepare for the celebration of Easter, ending the season of Lent. This is a great time to reflect on Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Always remember that Christ gave His life to save us from our sins. Check your parish bulletins for your Holy Week schedule. We need to mark our calendars for the MS 150 Bike-A-Thon which is on April 16-18. We will need as many members as possible to help out. We will be loading and hauling equipment to and from the Fair Grounds. We will be preparing, serving and cleaning up for two meals, dinner for about 3,000 and breakfast about 4,000. We need the Group Chairmen to contact the members in their groups to help. For more information contact Mark Ulrich @ 966-3385 or Hall Manager J.R. Baca @ 968-5117. Look inside newsletter for more information. The Officers of your Council have approved the establishment of a Knights of Columbus Council 2574 website. Current information and updated scheduling can be placed on the website for quick access. We will continue to send newsletters to those who may not have access to the internet but the less we have to mail and print the more we can save the Council. Postage is not going down. I will have more information in the future and please attend a meeting for more information. Email addresses will be compiled to send newsletters in addition to having them available on the website. Calendar of events at the KC Hall for Work Groups can be updated daily if needed. The Officers of your Council will be recommending Ed Sulak as the new Hall Manager for approval at the April Council meeting. J Roy Baca and Mary have provided many years of tremendous service to our Council by taking care of the business at the KC Hall. We thank them for that and I look forward to working with Ed to continue the service the KC Hall provides for our commu-nity. May God Bless you and keep you!

Happy Easter!!!

PENSION INCOME AND SURVIVORSHIP COSTS Do you have a Pension Plan at work? If so, this is some important information for you to read. Really, this is important information for anyone who has a retirement plan (401-k, 403b, 457, IRA, etc.) as most of these accounts require you to make decisions about your accounts upon retir-ing as well. Pensions are very good retirement vehicles because you can’t outlive the money promised if you choose a lifetime income. But pensions do come with some drawbacks that can be very costly if not addressed properly. Married retired pension plan participants are required to make a choice. They can take the maximum monthly income for the life of the retiring employee only (e.g., $3,000 a month) or take a substantially reduced pen-sion for the lifetime of both the retiring employee and his/her spouse (e.g., $2,000 per month). In the absence of any planned alternatives, most employees and their spouses feel compelled to take the reduced life income at retirement. Unfortunately, once this option is selected it may not be changed & can be costly. The potential cost of this decision can be enormous. If your spouse predeceases you or, if you & your spouse both live a full life & die together or within a short period of time of each other, little or no benefits are ever realized after many years of reduced pension payments. In most cases children or other heirs do not inherit any benefits. The money you & your family would have received if you lived is returned back into the pen-sion system. Using the example above, a retiree who chooses the reduced pension route ($2,000 a month vs $3,000) & lived his/her normal life expectancy would cost his family right at $250,000. That’s correct, a quarter million dollars would be lost by choosing this route. This is a huge loss of money for your family & doesn’t take into account the amount of earnings lost on that sum of money. The conclusion: pension survivor-ship options equate to very expensive term life insurance which may never pay a benefit. The problem is most people don’t realize there are other options so they choose the reduced pension because it seems the best and only way to go. There is a much better fool proof way to guarantee you and your family will receive the full value of your pension. The solution: purchase permanent life insurance prior to or at retirement and elect to take the full monthly pension benefit. The earlier in life you do this, the better. The advantages of doing it this way are many. The cost will be less, the proceeds will be mostly income tax free & the Insurance benefits can go to your spouse, children or any other person you choose upon death. Also, if your spouse passes on first, you can turn the insurance policy into an extra lifetime income producing asset or can choose to surrender the policy for its full cash surrender value or you can pass the money onto to whoever you choose such as your children. Choosing this route guarantees the money promised will actually get to you and your family. Taking a little time NOW, rather than later to look at this, will save you much heartache & cash down the road. Gather your information aboutyour work or individual retirement plan(s) and give us a call. The costs are too GREAT for you to ignore this so, contact us today so we can get your retirement on track & keep it that way. You can reach us, Doug or Jody Supak, at (979) 968-5332 or email us at: [email protected] By the way, if you’re a Federal, State, County or City employee, a School Teacher, a LCRA employee or have taken it upon yourself to start an IRA, 403b or other retirement account then it would be in your best interest to contact us about this all important matter. The Knights provide programs that may well double your retirement income & will guarantee the money get’s to you & your family. Call us Today!

Permit #99HAPPY NEW YEAR…2020

As we begin the new year it’s common to review the past year and look at what we’d like to accomplish in the new one. Already there’s been much advertising and talk about 2020 and the relation to our eyesight…how we’ll be able to see more clearly, look at the year with new vision, not be shortsighted. Of course all this talk about the future brings us to the usual thinking about the new year…making resolutions. That is a good thing! All of us want to resolve to do those things that will lead to happier, healthier lives. Some of the most common resolutions are to lose weight, get in shape and exercise more. Others resolve to stop smoking. If you think about the spiritual, many new year’s resolutions concern having a more centered prayer life or receiving the sacraments more often. Many of my friends think more about quality time…quality time spent with their family and friends; that are most important in their lives. As you think about family, one resolution I can help you keep is to update your Family Service Record and take stock of your financial goals. Are you where you want to be? Do you have a plan? With our professional approach using the Profiles+ Forecaster financial needs analysis you can see if there are any gaps in your coverage and how close you are to achieving your goals and aspirations. Some members are not aware of all the products we have to offer: Life Insurance, long term care insurance, disability income insurance and retirement annuities. These products can help protect your family in all the financial situations where you might find yourself. Life insurance protects your loved ones financially if you are not there to help provide. The need for life insurance changes at different stages of a person’s life: Young and unmarried members and the man retiring next month each have life insurance needs, but, the type and amount may vary widely. I can give you some advice on that. Disability income insurance provides a paycheck if you are sick or hurt and can’t work. If your company offers some, do you know how much, for how long and is it taxable? I can help sort that out. Long term care insurance protects those assets you’ve worked so hard all your life to accumulate. Don’t deplete all the family’s savings for a care event when the Knights can take on that risk. With all the concern about market volatility and the health of Social Security, our fixed rate annuities guarantee a minimum interest rate for life, the safety of conservative investment strategy and an income stream you cannot outlive. What’s most important to your family? There is no cookie cutter answer. That’s why I meet with members and their spouses and first determine what issues are of most concern to you. From there I can help analyze where you are in relation to your goals and construct a plan to get you where you want to go. All done in the comfort of your home and at your convenience. As a Brother Knight and your Field Agent I have so much more responsibility than a simple financial advisor or stock broker. We’ll take a look at your dreams, goals and aspirations for 2020 and beyond. Resolve today to meet with me and ensure that at the end of this new year, your financial picture will be seen with 2020 vision. My contact information is: Jody Supak (979) 968-5332, [email protected] & my office is located at 130 S. College St. in La Grange. Vivat Jesus!
