GRAND KNIGHT’S COMMENTS – Jeff Fry [email protected]
“Knights in Action!” This expression exemplifies our council in so many ways this month! We Knights and our families were certainly in action this past weekend at the “Breakfast with Santa.” Probably the parish’s greatest social event; Knights were planning and making purchases, setting up on Saturday afternoon, prepping the kitchen at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, and then cooking, cleaning, and clearing after both Masses, and finally tearing down the decorations and storing them for next year! A special thanks goes out to Brother Mike Breiding and Diane for obvious reasons! Brothers John Kohler and Paul Wagner (and their better halves) organized a great basket of gifts for a local family in need. The council contributed the money, but our brother Knights jumped into action and completed the project. “Knights in Action!” Brother Mike Noe is spearheading a new council program in his retirement where men from our council can help local residents in need by performing home repairs and other projects. He is currently working on a project for the council installing a door and windows for a local resident with developmental disabilities (the Council is contributing funds to assist). What an incredible time for our Knights to be in action. I would like to express my gratitude to the council for an amazing year and hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and an “active” New Year!
Jeff Fry, GK

The St Vincent DePaul Society sponsored a Veterans’ Celebration after the 8:00 Mass on November
17th
. The council served coffee and donuts. Ellen Leidy did a wonderful job as Master of
Ceremonies recognizing each branch of service and providing service baseball caps for the vets. As an added
surprise, Milly Haughn’s 7th
grade Faith Formation class came into the gym and, as a group, thanked the vets for
their service.

EMBRACE CLINIC RECEIVES GIFT

emotional, spiritual, and material support.” CHARITy.

OTHER CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS
At the meeting, the Charity Committee also recommended charity gifts of $400 to the Battered Women’s
Shelter, $250 to the Ohio State Matching Funds, and $200 for two new windows for the mobile home of
Timmy Grizer, a developmentally disabled man from Norton. Council members Mike Noe and Jeff Fry recently
replaced Timmy’s front door. See story below. Coats are also being distributed in the community. CHARITy.
Many of us older knights have memories of the Christmas lights from the past. I still remember the frustration of
untangling the lights. What was especially hard was when one bulb burned out the whole string stopped working
and the frustration in trying to find the one burned out bulb. If there were two burned out bulbs then it was
impossible to fix. You might as well throw it away.
The challenges we face in putting up Christmas lights are a glimpse of what we face in our lives. We have all
found ourselves in situations so tangled that we thought we would never get things straightened out. Perhaps we
were trying to care for a terminally ill family member while dealing with the insurance companies, doctors,
emotionally strained family members and our own emotions. Or maybe the situation was juggling work and a
new born baby. What gets us through this tangled maze of physical task and emotional turmoil is our faith in
God; knowing that he answers our prayers. Even if we are too spent to pray; we know that God is beside us and
helping us untangle the knots and renew our lives and relationships.
Since I know that God answers prayers, this is my prayer for you: That Christ our light will scatter any darkness
you may be experiencing and that the Christ Child will brighten your hearts with the joy of his presence during
this holy season. May you and your families have a blessed and spirit filled advent; always looking to Jesus for
guidance in the entanglements in our life. And when you are troubled or frustrated that you always turn your
concerns to God in prayer.
