If you have conducted your district mid-year meeting, schedule the meeting as soon as possible and encourage each council in your district to attend. Review each council’s progress toward earning the Star Council Award. If you have any questions during your term, please send an e-mail to [email protected]. District Deputy C ouncils in your district should be preparing for a busy month of March, both in terms of membership growth and charitable outreach. The weekend of March 12-13, 2016 features the Council Church Drive Weekend. Councils should be consulting with their pastor and securing permission to have pulpit announcements after all Masses on this weekend. To conduct a successful Church Drive, please consult the Membership Recruitment and Retention Manual (#10237). The Council First Degree Week is scheduled for March 14-20, 2016. Prospective members identified through the Council Church Drive should be welcomed into councils during this week. Councils should take advantage of utilizing the First Degree Video Production, if they do not have a certified Admission Degree Team available. The First Degree Video Production can be found in the Officers Online section of kofc.org. The week of March 28 through April 3, 2016 features the Council Outreach Week in honor of Father McGivney. All councils are encouraged to conduct charitable service projects during this week to honor our founder. MEMBERSHIP 365 GEAR UP FOR A BUSY MARCH 40 CANS FOR LENT A s part of the Order’s Food for Families program, councils are encouraged to conduct a 40 Cans for Lent program. This simple-to-conduct program asks each member of the council, along with the parish community, to donate one can of food for each day of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016. If the council collects and distributes a minimum of 1,000 pounds of food and contributes 100 man- hours of service to the program, it will satisfy all four requirements for the Family Activities category of the Columbian Award. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN CHILD T he Knights of Columbus Day of the Unborn Child on March 25, 2016 falls on Good Friday this year, thus offering a special opportunity to pray and to build a culture of life that respects the sacredness of every human life, from conception until natural death. With scheduled Good Friday services, please consider the clergy’s and parish’s busy schedule when planning activities. Inquire if special pro-life prayers can be added to Stations of the Cross, rosary or other prayer services being held in the parish on this day. Other prayerful or meaningful activities could be held away from the parish in a public area or outside an abortion clinic. Those attending the event could be encouraged to bring diapers, maternity or baby clothes, or contribute to a Baby Bottle Boomerang campaign. Funds collected can be donated to a local pregnancy care center to purchase an ultrasound machine or other needed equipment and supplies. Culture of life materials, including flyers, posters,
