MERRY CHRISTMAS AND
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
GRAND KNIGHT’S NEWS
We are at the beginning of the busy season at our
council/parish.
The Men’s Faith Sharing continues to be a success.
Now that we are getting the snow birds back the
group is getting bigger. Come on out even if you
don’t think you could benefit. It is great and you
learn something new each time. Men’s Faith Shar-
ing is held 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. every Friday
morning.
Habitat for Humanity volunteers assisted at anoth-
er project, which makes 12 projects in 12 months.
Congratulations to Brother John Joly. And this De-
cember, Habitat kicked off a FAITH GROUP BUILD
groundbreaking event held at planned homesite in
Palmetto. The Faith organizations have committed
to help raise the $95,000 needed to cover site prep-
aration and construction costs and to provide 3,200
hours of volunteer service – much of it at the work
site on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings
starting in January 2018. See story inside.
Food for Families continues to be a great source of
getting food to people who need it. We go to St
Joseph every Monday. This is led by Brother Mateo
Cangemi and the aide of several Brothers.
We donated $3500 to St Michael’s Catholic Church,
in Wauchula in lieu of Coats for Kids, as done in
years past. Sr. Gema was so happy to have this do-
nation to help parish families who were hurt by
Irma wreaking havoc on the local farms where they
work. Thanks to Co-Chairman Bill Rempe & Ray
Makovec for spearheading this wonderful outreach
program.
Our Council recently presented a $4000 check to
Manatee Special Olympics for their bowling team
to participate at the State level. Brother Chris
Treston, our Florida State Council Special Olympics
Chairman Chris Treston did the honors. Our Toot-
sie Roll Drive Fund was raised over several week-
ends at local Publix and Walmart Storefronts. The
Tootsie Roll Drive was headed up by Brother Paul
Browne. Please sign up for our 2018 weekends.
GRAND KNIGHT’S NEWS (cont.)
Our Council again this year made a $10,000 dona-
tion to the Catholic Faith Appeal - Venice Diocese
at a 10:30 Mass in November. GK Samuel Bastianel-
li respectfully presented to Our Lady of the Angel
Catholic Church, Parish Administrator Rev. Michael
Scheip.
Once again, we had the good fortune to get our
Joly (John that is) St. Nicholas to drop by the Par-
ish Hall to spread good cheer and give presents to
almost 50 parish Children. Our Council provided
each child with a goodie bag filled with candy and
Sarasota Film Society – LWR Movie Passes with
Popcorn/Drink/Candy voucher. They and their
families were treated to a scrumptious Blueberry
pancake & Sausage Breakfast led by Herb O’Neill
with many brother Knights and their wives assist-
ing with set-up, cooking, serving, and teardown,
making it all seem so easy.
Keep the date Saturday, February 17, 2018 for Sug-
ar Bowl Show of Shows, featuring the Atlantic City
Boys. It is a don’t miss night. So keep the date and
if you have anything contact Brothers John Joly
and/or Vinnie Cipriano.
San Damiano Assembly # 3192 will have the Patri-
otic Ball on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from at
Tara Golf and Country Club. From 5– 9 p.m.
Msgr. Joseph A. Ferraro, Military Chaplain, retired
from the United States Navy is guest of honor.
Please contact SK Vinnie Cipriano for further infor-
mation. A flyer for this event is at the end of this
newsletter.
Membership continues to bring new men to our
Council. Increased efforts will be needed in the
next six months to keep our Star Council status.
Ask others in our parish to join our order! Get the
good word out.
I wish all Brother Knights and their families to have
a truly blessed Christmas and New Year! On to
2018!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MISSION
AND VISION OPPORTUNITIES
Dear Brothers:
There are two immediate ways in which you can
get involved in helping to serve the mission and
vision of the Knights of Columbus that we ask you
to prayerfully consider. Both of these opportuni-
ties ask that you use your "treasure of time" to
support these initiatives. They are as follows:
1. Each year at this time, Pro Life advocates who
pray for the end of abortion, sing Christmas Carols
in front of Planned Parenthood -- located at 736
Central Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34236, which is
also its Regional/State Headquarters. The obvious
connection is that as we sing Christian Carols, we
celebrate the greatest gift of life that the world
has ever seen -- Mary giving birth to Jesus. Since
the Pro-life cause is all about respecting God's gift
of life it is a very moving and symbolic ges-
ture. The caroling will occur on Tuesdays,
12/19/17, 12/26/17, and 01/02/18 at 10:00 am and
it usually lasts for about 45 minutes. All Knights,
wives and family members are invited to partici-
pate in this event. If you do attend you are en-
couraged to wear your council, or assembly, shirt
so that the Pro Life support of the Knights is visi-
bly on display. Christmas music sheets will be pro-
vided at the site.
2. On Thursdays, immediately following the 8:00
am Mass, the Knights help to clean the church by
sweeping the floors, cleaning windows and vacu-
uming carpets. If 5-6 men show up to help, it gen-
erally takes 30 minutes to complete these
tasks. Twice, over the last month, only 1 Knight
showed up to help, which creates a heavy burden
to complete all these tasks. Please prayerfully con-
sider joining the cleaning crew to make sure the
church is properly maintained as a "House of Wor-
ship" for all parishioners.
If you have any questions about either of these
opportunities, please feel free to contact Brother
Jim Coon at [email protected] or at
(252) 571-9540. Take Care and God Bless!
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER
We pray for: GK Sam and MaryLee Bastianelli,
Anthony Rizzi, Bill Camastro, Samantha Maldana-
do, Jim Mazurek, Gene Dolwecki, George Martin,
Paul Kremski’s son, JoAnn and Jim Ryan, and Ann
NiFong. Anthony Rizzi, Bill Camastro, Samantha

COUNCIL ACTIVITIES
MEMORIAL MASS
Brothers,
I would like to thank all who were able to help at our
Memorial Mass on Nov 13th, It was a great send off
for our Passed Brother Knights. I am sorry for such a
late acknowledgement.
I would like to thank like to thank Pat Martino for
helping as sacristan for the mass and Nicholas Barry
from the youth group and working with Brother
Chris Treston as Altar Servers, and Brother Jim Ryan
as Lector. And what an Honor to have both Father
Mike and Father John serve the Mass, and to all my
Brother Knights who participated in making our an-
nual Memorial Mass one of the best I have seen since
becoming a Knight.
As we all know Father Michael J McGivney created
our order to help the families of Passed Brothers in
their time of need and sorrow. I believe we helped
give our brothers and their families a wonderful Sa-
lute and Sendoff for all they did for our Church and
Community.
The Wives I spoke with had nothing but praise for all
who helped in making it a Memorable and Respectful
evening. We had 75 people turnout for the mass to
honor our brothers who have passed. And we had
approximately 65 attendees for the reception. We
had 8 Color Corps Brothers in Regalia that honored
them, we had 15 Brothers come in at 1pm that day to
set up the hall.
Immediately after communion,,Brothers Roger
Coustry and Larry McCarthy went to SHH to take the
food out, make coffee and iced tea, and make sure
everything was ready for the reception.
Thank You all for making the evening a special Night
of Honor and Love for our Brother Knights and Their
Families.. As we have seen all through this year with
all our events and through the devastation of Hurri-
cane Irma and Mary our Brothers come together
when needed and help where needed.
We have a Great Council of Brothers, this is what Fr.
McGivney wanted, for Catholic Men to come togeth-
er to help others, that is what you should have joined
our Order for. To Help Others.
Thank You for All You Do,
Brother Matt Cangemi

UPCOMING WHITE CROSS PROJECT AND
BLOOD DRIVE
On January 18th we will be deploying our White
Crosses out on SR 70 after the 8:00AM Mass. The
crosses are meant to heighten the community’s
awareness of the anniversary and impact of the
1973 Roe V Wade verdict. Since 1973, 60,011,780
babies have been killed as a result of this murder-
ous ruling. There is good news. The number of
abortions performed in the United States has
dropped below one million the past three years.
Even better news, the abortion rates and ratios,
which measure the general frequency of abortion
and the likelihood that a pregnant woman will
abort, are down to levels below what they were in
1973, when Roe v Wade first made abortion on
demand the law of the land. None the less, the
total abortion number dwarfs the 6,000,000 killed
during the Holocaust.
Please join Brother Knights on the January 18th
after the 8:00AM Mass as we deploy the crosses
for the 10th straight year. Join us again on Janu-
ary 24th as we recover and store the crosses and
pray that that we may never need to deploy them
again. All you need is a rubber or plastic mallet
(not a steel hammer) and your work gloves. Total
time required, 90 minutes.
On January 20th & 21st we will be signing up
blood donors outside the church for the drive on
January 25th. Thanks to all (especially Brother
Steve Balazic) who helped make the November
30th Blood Drive one of our most successful with
34 pints of life saving blood collected.
The Blood Drive Team is searching for two or
three Brothers to help greet and sign in donors
on the day of the Blood Drive. If you have two
hours available to help, please get in touch with
the Blood Drive Team.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!

OUR ASSISTANCE TO ST. MICHAEL CHURCH IN WAUCHULA, FL
With many families with young children continuing to struggle in these challenging economic times, there
has never been a better time for Knights of Columbus Councils to help by aiding children in their communi-
ties through the Order’s Coats for Kids program.
This year our Council decided to offer a $3500 Donation instead of the customary coats we have given in
years past. With Hurricane Irma passing nearby this September, many of the parishioners of St. Michael’s
were impacted financially by damage to the local farms, where they earn a living. Sr. Gema asked for us to
help her families with a donation in lieu of Coats for 2017. Our Council heartily agreed.
This winter our local Council, #13341 Saints Cosmas and Damian, was a unique Council in the Venice Diocese
to continue in this wonderful program, from 2012 to today. This outreach event is held in honor of late
brother David Walsh and his widow Emily, who founded this event for our Council. Also, an anonymous do-
nor gave a significant donation meet our goals. Coats for Kids Coordinators, Bill Rempe and Ray Makovec
expressed their gratitude for having the opportunity to orchestrate this outreach to our sister Parish.
We were able to also share in a delicious homecooked meal made by Sr. Gema and three of her fellow sisters
in their own dining room. Father Tim, arriving to St Michael’s 6 month ago from San Jose, CA also joined our
table. St. Michael Catholic Church in Wauchula is one of the neediest parishes in the Diocese of Venice with
Sister Maria Gema leading family and education activities there. Anyone interested in helping the religious
sisters at St. Michael’s can do so by contacting: St. Michael Church, Attn: Sister Gema, 408 Head Bridge Road,

home site. The project team consisted of Our La-
dy of the Angels Knights working with the Habi-
tat Construction Manager and Assistant, and sev-
eral other volunteers. This activity was coordinat-
ed by SK John Joly, the Knights of Columbus
Community Services Director. This represented
the 11th Habitat project completed in as many
months thus far in 2017.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (cont.)
On Saturday, December 9th
, 2017, 6 Brother Knights and 2 Wives from our Council 13341 of Our Lady of the
Angels participated in the Manatee County Habitat for Humanity Faith Build 2018 Groundbreaking Ceremo-
ny in Bradenton. Ground was broken for Manatee County Habitat for Humanity’s newest “Faith Build” home
in a noontime ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 9. The single-family home site is at 604 11th Avenue E. in Braden-
ton’s Washington Park neighborhood. Representatives of participating groups, including our Knights of Co-
lumbus Council 13341 of Our Lady of the Angels, took part, and members of those faith communities were
invited to join in the service which included the traditional turning of shovelfuls of dirt.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of Lizzie Mae Jennings, a community leader in Wash-
ington Park, a short walk from the groundbreaking site. Refreshments were provided while guests had an
opportunity to meet and greet the family that will eventually call the Faith Build home their own.

(r)Jackie and Marvin Kendall and their
grandson Marcus are the Habitat Faith
Build family. Marvin is a custodian at Sun-
coast Behavioral Health Center in Braden-
ton; Jackie is a housekeeper in private
homes and a “minister outside the walls of
church”; and Marcus is a 10th grader at
Southeast High School. The Kendall’s have
three grown children, two daughters and a
son – all military veterans.
Collectively, the faith based communities
have committed to raise the $95,000 need-
ed to cover site preparation and construc-
tion costs and to provide 3,200 hours of
volunteer service – much of it at the work
site on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
mornings starting in January.
Early on, the Faith Build Steering Commit-
tee – consisting of representatives of the
participating groups – identified three pur-
poses of their project:
To build a single-family affordable
home in Manatee County
To build a coalition of faith communi-
ties serving God
To witness their unity and their service to
the local community

BREAKFAST WITH ST. NICHOLAS
The 2017 Parish Breakfast with Saint Nicholas was a great morning for our parish’s children. It was spon-
sored by our very own Knights of Columbus Council #13341 who hosted the event and provided the gifts
and a delicious breakfast made by the Knights Pancake Brigade! We had close to fifty children and their
families attend. Many of our Knights and their wives also helped with set up and serving breakfast.
Janelle and Karl Sidnam and a few singers from of our Praise Band came to sing our favorite Christmas
Carols. The children and adults were fully engaged, and Brother Jim Ryan joined in the festivities by bop-
ping around and singing. Father Mike and Father John also joined us, with Father John sitting amongst the
children happily belting out Jingle Bells.
Then Jolly Saint Nicholas arrived, escorted by eleven helpful elves from our Youth Group. St.
Nicholas had some Christmas questions for the children and the answers were very interesting. Saint Nich-
olas had every child let him know their own Christmas list wishes. The expressions on their faces were of
wonder and for some a little trepidation. The helpers gave every child a gift bag with a Movie/Snack Pass-
es redeemable at the Downtown Lakewood Ranch SFS Movie Theatre, candy, etc. We look forward to con-
tinuing this wonderful Christmastime tradition and wish all our Parishioners a Merry Christmas.
Respectfully submitted

WE STAND STRONG ON ETHICAL GROUND Some people believe that ethics in business is a contradiction in terms. They think that in order to be profit-
able, a company and its leaders must abandon morality and embrace the dark, greedy side that they see so
often in the news and in movies.
At the Knights of Columbus, we know this isn’t true. A business can be both ethical and successful. We are.
As a Catholic organization, we understand the value and importance of our core beliefs and the original
mission of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney. In fact, much of the strength and financial security we
provide to members and their families can be attributed to our ethical, moral standards.
More than 96 percent of Knights who buy our life insurance keep it, year in and year out. The Order takes
this commitment to our members very seriously. This means carefully planning when it comes time to in-
vest. Our professional staff researches all transactions to insure that they fall in line with Catholic values. If
a transaction makes them uncomfortable, they don’t make it.
“We exclude any company engaged in activity that conflicts with Catholic moral teaching: companies di-
rectly involved in abortion, contraception, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, for-profit health
care that pays for any of these, or pornography,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “There are many
companies in the pharmaceutical and communications industries that would undoubtedly provide excellent
returns for us, but which are not in our portfolio because they engage in research and development or pro-
gramming in ways that violate the sanctity or dignity of human life.”
In the end, the Knights of Columbus investment strategy is motivated by morality, not money. Yet, each
year we remain profitable, increase our assets and stay dedicated to this vision that will keep the Order fi-
nancially sound for generations to come.
But don’t just take our word for it. In 2017 the Knights of Columbus was named a “World’s Most Ethical
Company” by the Ethisphere Institute for the fourth year in a row. We were one of only two life insurance
companies to earn the honor.
“Faithful Catholics have choices when buying life insurance,” said the Supreme Knight. “But they know that
at the Knights of Columbus their policy is supplied by an insurer that shares their moral and ethical values
and is guided in all of its investment and sales practices by those values.”
