(April 16, 2014) --- The  Knickerbocker Film Festival will officially open this Friday, commemorating five years of presenting emerging filmmakers to New York ’s Capital Region. The festival, presented by Mingle Restaurants, opens at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. before heading back to Albany for four days of screenings at the Madison Theater, the Linda, and Spectrum 8 Theaters. An opening night reception is scheduled for after the screening at Lucas Confectionery in Downtown Troy. We couldnt be prouder of the lineup we ve been able to put together for this years festival. We believe it s a solid mix of local and international flair that we believe Capital Region audiences will enjoy ,” said Kat Broadus and Mark Fiske, co-chairs of the festival’s screening committee. The support that Albany and the greater Capital Region have given to the Knickerbocker Film Festival, year after year, is only a testament to the passion that our area has for filmmaking and the arts,  said Joe Bonilla, co-founder of the festival. Twelve films total have been selected to be screened at the festival. Each screening, unlike previous years, will be a different line up per venue. This also includes a Troy film night at the Arts Center (with a select number of Troy- themed films) and an International film night at the Linda. The festival is a proven breeding ground for emerging filmmakers, in which films screened at the Knickerbocker Film Festival have gone onto further regional and national success. I congratulate each of the filmmakers, the selection committee, and the festival organizers on being part of this new annual tradition for our city, ” said Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan. While the Knickerbocker Film Festival was created to be a city-wide event for Albany, Troy has been the stage for many notable film productions in the past and is a city that embraces the arts. The partnership between the BID, the festival, and the Arts Center could not be a better fit, ” said Erin Pihlaja, executive director of the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District. The festival will premiere at the Madison Theater on Monday, April 21 at 7 p.m. (with an encore screening on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.), the Linda on Tuesday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m., and Spectrum 8 Theaters on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m.
