EDITOR’S LETTER
dear #KNeoNKids,
welcome to this special summer edition, a first for KNeoN. with our quarterly editions, we will always manage to celebrate each season, but this one especially gives a bear hug to high summer vibes.
you’ll see more colour and boldness. more youthful spirit and sass, in both editorial and typography. we wanted to recreate the general moodz of people in the summer - sixteen again and full of euphoria and escalated expectations of what life should and could be. summer is taking the time to chill and be, to travel and see, but also to mull over what will become after these precious months come to an end.
The break is now over and KNeoN is now moving in new directions. we are now based in beijing, New york, london and melbourne and have more developments coming in: we’re going to relaunch the #KNeoNKids platform, release our first short film, take part and exhibit at beijing design week…making a list usually stresses me out so i’ll stop there. but definitely stay in touch and sassy with us at @kneonmagazine on instagram and facebook. we like to post hip stuff once in a while. or everyday.
talk to you in a bit! KNeoN 11 strip bare will be out real quick.
all my love,Victoria

THE LADIES
OF MISS LILy’S
when Miss Lily’s opened its doors, it put west Houston on the map and Jamaican food at the epicenter of all that’s hip in soho. the ladies of Miss Lily’s are as hot as the dishes they serve – each has catwalk style and model looks. the décor is equally as stunning – a riot of pulsating colors accompanied, in equal measure, by music which courses through the veins of the diner-style interior. we met up with the Ladies at west Houston who showed us just why Miss Lily’s has attracted plaudits from anyone who counts.

WHERE IS SOMEWHERE yOU REALLy WANT TO TRAVEL TO? the list is unending but very top of the list would probably be the ruins of angkor in cambodia.
WHAT DO yOU GET UP TO AFTER WORK? i am super chill. i will either grab a drink with a friend at a quiet bar or head home to watch a movie.

i am an avid traveler who loves to be active. creating music and practicing yoga keeps me sane. the three words
to describe me would be outgoing, adventurous and fun loving.

Lily is a hot 25-27 year old with a flair for colors, good food, and good vibes. The first time I witnessed how we celebrated a guests birthday - i was so confused the kitchen was banging and screaming- my coworkers were clapping yelling and dancing including my manager. i thought everyone went mad.
WHAT WAS yOUR FIRST EVER JOB? Babysitter. i was eight.
WHERE IS SOMEWHERE yOU REALLy WANT TO TRAVEL TO? Miami Beach! i haven’t been yet but better yet would be Vegas. anywhere where clothing is optional and i’m bound to get in trouble.
WHAT DO yOU GET UP TO AF-TER WORK? i’m an aspiring model and actress so i usually work on staying in shape, hon-
ing my craft, and finding gigs — or lie in bed for 3 hours.
WHAT IS yOUR FAVORITE DISH AT MISS LILy’S? Lily Burger! Mostly for the sweet potato fries
HOW WOULD yOU DESCRIBE yOUR STyLE? My mother calls it hobo but i think of it as if i fell into the closet and came out dressed. i either go for that modern day princess look or tomboy.
CRySTAL
MAMEMy name is Mame yacine: ambitious, funny and hard working. i think everyone who’s working in the restaurant is Lily. i am from senegal in west africa and i speak four languages which is wolof , serere, French and english.
TELL ME A LIT-TLE BIT ABOUT yOURSELF.i was born in south sudan, moved to egypt and came to united state in 2004. what i’ve been through with my family in the civil war of south sudan made me a strong, independent, and kind woman i am today. TELL US A FUN-Ny STORy FROM yOUR TIME AT MISS LILy’S? one night when it was really packed at the bar, i took the menus to seat a group, and when i passed by, my dress got stock at one the guy pants zipper and it took a minute to take it out. everyone at the bar who saw me was laughing at me. it was embarrassing but funny.
WHAT DO yOU GET UP TO AF-TER WORK? i normally hang out at the Box or Maizon’o after works.
WHAT ARE yOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? My goals are to open a restaurant and an orphanage in south su-dan. right now things aren’t in a good condi-tion but hopefully in the future i will complete my goals. HOW WOULD yOU DESCRIBE yOUR STyLE? Fashionable, simple and elegant. WHEN AND WHERE ARE yOU HAPPI-EST? i am always happy and smiling. My job is where I find happiness most of time. working with such beautiful employees and not to mention how wonderful are the own-ers at Miss Lily’s makes me feel really blessed. also, when customers comes in, whether they are happy, sad, disap-pointed or whatever they went through, at the end of the night, we all dance together and everyone go home happy.ASHLEy
TIFFANy
DESCRIBE yOURSELF IN THREE WORDS.artist, designer, Virgo
WHO IS LILy?Lily is endearing and inviting, vi-brant yet casual, a taste of Jamaica, and everyone’s favorite place.
WHAT WAS yOUR FIRST EVER JOB? a food service worker at a hospi-tal. it was a private hospital.the food was surprisingly not horrific.
TELL US A FUNNy STORy FROM yOUR TIME AT MISS LILy’S? we ‘turn up’ for customers’ birth-days with cake, candles, sparklers, a birthday song by reggae super-star Mr. Vegas, made specially just for Lily’s customers. so one day, we sent a ‘surprise’ birthday cake to a table of super-fun customers that were extremely awesome to serve. we did the whole shebang; song, shout and cheers from the staff, sparklers. The kicker was, it
wasn’t any one of their birthdays. the whole party of six was super confused to what was going on. However, they all were extremely excited, dancing, singing, and passing the cake around the table like, ‘it’s not my birthday - who’s birthday is it?’. then the birth-day song ended, the candle and sparkler died, the staff departed. the table caught on to what the Lily’s staff had planned and they sent a ‘surprise’ birthday cake to yet another random table...the whole ordeal in replay. the look on all of their faces that night - priceless. Fun times at Lily’s.
WHAT DO yOU GET UP TO AFTER WORK? it depends on the night, but the staff will usually find a spot to hangout and have a drink or three.
