The evaluation of these characteristicdatas are based on the rules of DIN28090. The use of this values will notguarantee the performance of thegasket. Application conditions not inthe control of the gasket materialmanufacturer can influence theoperation of the gasket. A deducationof liability claims of any nature istherefore not possible. As furtherinvestigations are continuouselycarried out we reserve the right ofappropriate updates.
The design factors ”m” and ”y”according to the ASME Code arebased on a maximum leakage rate of1 ml/min. approx. 0.1 mg/sec x mmeasured according to DIN 28090 atdifferent gas pressures and differentgasket stresses.The DIN 2505 and the ”y” and ”m”concept itself now being questionedas a valid design tool.

Gasket factor Qmin(L)The gasket factor Qmin(L) is defined inthe EN13555 as the requiredminimum surface stress on thegasket at installation at roomtemperature so that the adaptation ofthe gasket to the flange surface issufficient to achieve tightness class Lfor a given internal pressure.
Gasket factor QSmin(L)The gasket factor QSmin(L) is definedas the required minimum surfacestress under operating conditions, i.e.after release at operating temperature,so that the required tightness class Lis achieved for the given internalpressure.
Gasket factor QSmaxIn the EN13555 the gasket factorQSmax is defined as the maximumsurface stress with which the gasketmay be loaded at the giventemperature without collapsing orfailure due to over compression.
Gasket factor PQRThis gasket factor is defined toconsider the relaxation of the gasketload after tightening the bolts and thelong-term influence of the operatingtemperature.
Validity of the test resultThe validity of the test result forQSmax is dependant on the factor PQRwhich is mentioned in the EN 13555section 8.4.5. This can then beapplied to the QSmax for differentgasket materials.
However there is no informationin the standard which PQR valuesconfirm a QSmax value. This means itis not easy for the user to determinewhich gasket materials will workproperly at a given operatingtemperature and surface pressure orare already overrated as quoted in thestandard.
For KLINGER gasket materialsKLINGER recommends the use of thevalues determined with the gasketcalculation software KLINGER®expertfor the maximum permissible andminimum required surface stress fora given application.
