Position: Education Assistant/Attendant Location: Kitigan Zibi Kikinamadinan 41 Kikinamage Mikan Term: 6 month contract with the possibility of renewal
December 2015 – June 30, 2016. Salary: As per the Kitigan Zibi Salary Scale and Employee Qualifications Certified Education Classroom Assistant ($535.30 weekly) Non Certified Education Classroom Assistant ($427.23 weekly) PREAMBLE: The incumbent will be responsible for tutoring and individualized assistance and supervision to student(s) assigned. The incumbent will also aid in the delivery of individualized education plans for assigned student(s). The incumbent will assist the student(s) in the classroom; work with the student(s) individually in a quiet room and accompany student(s) to the cafeteria for: lunch, outdoor play during morning and afternoon recesses. General Description
Under the supervision of the Pakinawatik Coordinator and the classroom Teacher, the Education Assistant/Student Attendant is responsible for assisting in the learning and delivery of quality education to student(s) assigned to him/her. The incumbent is expected to participate in classroom activities, planning, IEP goal achievement and supervision.
Description of the Job Responsibilities Tasks Responsible to supervise student(s) in the classroom and carry out individualized lessons with student(s) under the supervision of the classroom teacher
Provides individualized instruction to student(s) in Language Arts and Mathematics, under the supervision and support of the classroom teacher, both in class and in a quiet work room provided for the student(s)
Ensures that lessons and materials are prepared ahead of time for each day’s lessons.
Assists teacher in lesson preparation Supervising class periodically at classroom teacher’s
discretion, allowing classroom teacher some support time to work with individual students
Responsible to teach to the goals of the Individualized Education Plans
Accompanies student(s) to all Speech Language and Occupational Therapy sessions occurring bi-weekly
Engages in the therapy sessions along with the therapists in order to carry out daily follow-up sessions with student(s)
Plans & prepares lessons and materials and carries out follow-up sessions with student(s) as a member of the IEP team

Carries out any recommended therapy in the therapy room, including floor play, under the supervision of the therapists
Learns and uses the behavioural techniques taught by the therapists and set forth in the IEP
Consistently implements the behavioural plan put into effect by the IEP Team
Collaborates with classroom teacher about student(s) progress, needs, and successes
Responsible to provide consistent supervision to student(s) assigned
Assists with the implementation of regulations that are established for all indoor and outdoor school activities and uses proactive and consistent behavioural strategies
Provides consistent supervision to student(s) at all times during the day
Participates in trips and excursions
Responsible to carry out all other duties that may be assigned by the classroom teacher or school principal
Helps in preparing for special events or activities. Helps in other areas as needed if assigned student(s) is
absent from school (i.e. substitution, supervision of other students)
Attends all professional development days Attends and actively participates in all staff meetings Understands that work tasks and responsibilities are
flexible depending on the needs of the school
Personal Care Assists student(s) with personal needs in relation to school mobility such as accessing ramps, entrances, washrooms
Assists in physical, emotional, and social developmental needs
Provides love, care and support to all students
Accountability Accountable for the quality care and education of student(s) assigned to him/her Accountable to follow general education guidelines focusing on the education of the
students Accountable to adhere to and enforce school rules and policies Accountable for adhering to the employee code of conduct and respecting confidentiality Accountable to inform the Principal of personal absences

Qualifications
Certification and/ or level of formal education: Secondary V High School Diploma. Proof required Classroom Assistant Certification an asset not mandatory Medical certificate of good health will be required if considered for position Enhanced Vulnerability Check will be required if considered for position. Forms available
at the Human Resources Office/Band Office. Experience required: ▪ Prior experience working with children in a school setting an asset ▪ Prior experience working with students with physical or learning disabilities an asset Personal Suitability: Excellent interpersonal communication skills to liaise with the students and staff Ability to act as role model for students in conduct The necessary physical capability to work with active young students in floor play and
other strenuous activities The mental/emotional strength to work with young students while remaining consistent
with the behavioural objectives Patient, reliable worker with strong work ethic Languages Required: ▪ English Mandatory and Algonquin an asset
