Germany sylt 2009The KPWT started its year in the Northern island of Sylt, Germany. 75 world-class riders arrived on registration day. The atmosphere was energized with anticipation and all were eager to make their mark on the first stage of this year’s KPWT! The riders competed for 50 000 euro prize money and the chance to boost their World Tour rankings early on in the season.

POrtUGal santa CrUZ 2009

KPWT returned to Santa Cruz for the Ocean Spirit Grand Slam 2009.

For the second year in a row KPWT hosted an event at this magnificent Wave Masters location where the world championships in Skimboarding, Kayaking, Surfing, Longboarding and Kitesurfing were hotly contested.

The KPWT Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit Grand Slam ran over 10 days, starting the 24th of July and finishing the 2nd of August 2009.

Portugal is one of the oldest Countries in Europe, Santa Cruz is near Lisbon on the Westcoast. The high coastline with towering cliffs looks down onto beautiful long white beaches that are blessed with great winds and good swells. It is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the Western Region and the perfect spot for a mammoth Wave event! The beach runs for miles and stretches north and south of the Santa Cruz centre.

FranCe dUnkerqUe 2009Dunkerque is proud to announce that the French leg of this year’s tour will be take place at Dunes de Flandre. The event took place at the first European kite park, Rotonde du Kursaal and hosted the worlds best riders!

This is the first time that KPWT surfed the “free-riders paradise” in Dakhla.Prize money for this 6 star event was set at 35 000 euros.The four disciplines being held will be Freestyle, Wave Masters, Course racing, and the new and exciting Kiteloop!Dakhla is situated on the Western Sahara coast of Morocco, boasting consistently strong winds and a vast range of kitesurfing conditions.It is a huge sandy basin with a lagoon stretching over 50km’s and a North Westerly wind, which is prevalent all year round.

BraZIl CUmBUCO 2009The 7th Stage on this year’s KPWT was held at the kitesurfing Mecca in Brazil, Cumbuco. Cumbuco is a laid back fishing village not far North of Fortaleza. Cumbuco boasts miles and miles of perfect beaches for wind sports.
