Kite Runner
Question: What is Amir’s relationship with baba in the beginning of the book? How does it
change after he wins the kite fighting tournament?
Answer: In the beginning, Baba has always been strict to Amir. He believed that he was a reason
of his mother’s death and did not have manly guts. He mostly used to appreciate Hassan (who
was said to be the son of his servant but he was actually Baba’s own son), because he has always
been brave and respectful towards everything. He trusted Hassan more than Amir of which Amir
was always jealous. But, after Amir won the kite fight, Baba felt proud of Amir, he appreciated
him and started expecting things from him. He started thinking of him from a different sight.
Even though their father son relationship changed but he wasn’t as happy as he thought he would
be because he was in the guilt of whatever happened with Hassan.
Question: When Amir and Baba move to the states their relationship changes and Amir begins
to view his father as a more complex man. Discuss the changes in their relationship. Do you see
the changes in Baba as tragic or positive?
Answer: In Afghanistan, Baba had a social circle in between which he remained busy, and not
least but less bothered. When they moved to the states, circumstances were changed, in
Afghanistan they were well settled and rich but in the states they had to struggle for their future.
In all this, baba and Amir became quite closer; they supported and helped each other and they
were the only company there. Amir continued his education with determination and the time
when he graduated, baba gifted him a car, they started caring for each other, baba started take
care of Amir’s likes and dislikes. The changes in Baba were surely the positive ones because a
pure bond started to become in between them.

Question: Is kite runner told from an American perspective or from an afghan perspective?
Answer: In my point of view, it is written from both the perspectives, written by Afghan writer
with an Afghan perspective but having a touch of American perspectives. He has beautifully
showed all the view and life style of the Taliban in a few scenes. And in the half of the end part it
has shown the struggle that is mostly done in the states by the new ones who comes from other
countries to America or anywhere.
Question: Compare and contrast the relationships of Suraiya and their fathers. How have their
upbringings contributed to these relationships?
Answer: Surraiya and his father had a good bonding and relationship with each other, but still
being a father he was protective and concerned about her doings. Suraiya was well groomed by
her father but Amir’s childhood wasn’t that good as Suraiya might have. But his teenage and
adult life was well organized and he proved to be a responsible and mature person as well as
Suraiya. The time she met Amir, he started noticing Amir and had a check over him. Amir and
Suraiya became good friends. Their fathers were good kind of friends of each other. They used to
meet often and so Surraiya and Amir.
