COMMON KITCHEN HARZARDS• Fire
• Electric•Burns• Slips and falls•Cuts
FIREDon’t leave the kitchen with pots & pans cooking on the stove. Make sure to turn off burners as soon as you take the pot off.
Kitchen Fire Prevention• Keep flammable objects away from the stove. This includes towels (both
cloth and paper), food packaging, or anything else that might catch on fire.
• Overloading electric sockets and leaving sockets on can also cause fire

SLIP AND FALLS
• Avoid anything that can cause a person to slip and fall such as grease on the floor or obstacles that can a person can bump into and fall

PREVENTING KITCHEN CUTS• Keep Knives sharp• Store Knives Properly• Never Catch a falling Knife• Wash Knives separately• Sweep up broken glasses – use wet paper of towel
to pickup broken pieces instead bare hands
KITCHEN SAFETY TIP 1• Keep your kitchen clean. This will prevent kitchen injuries and give
you the space to work when needed.
KITCHEN SAFETY TIP 2• Store dangerous objects in a safe location. If you have children in the
home, you need to designate a safe area for dangerous kitchen items.

Avoid distractions. Your attention should be completely on what you are trying to do, especially if it involves heat and sharp objects.

It is a good idea to periodically review how your kitchen is set up so you can make sure that everything is positioned and secured in a safe manner not just for you but also the children.
