http://www.diy-home-remedy.blogspot.com Most people when trying to find a solution to gout will look to cut out or reduce foods high in purine, as metabolizing purine in the body causes increased levels of uric acid, which leads to gout symptoms. However, high purine foods are not necessarily the only foods to avoid with gout. A link between body acidity and gout have been established by researchers. Gout without any medication:Episode 2
Gout does not usually progress to the chronic tophaceous phase with proper treatment. Proper treatment can be defined as prescription of medication to control gout and more importantly changes in lifestyle.
People with gout are advised to:
1. Avoid alcohol
2. Drink plenty of water and other fluids
3. Maintain an ideal body weight
4. Lose weight if overweight but avoid fasting or quick weight loss schemes
5. Avoid eating food high in purine
Treating Gout With Diet & Medication: What Should
You Eat?
Dietary restrictions suggest what people should not eat, but what should people eat? The American Medical Association recommends gout patients to maintain a diet:
1. High in complex carbohydrates (fiber-rich whole grains, fruits, and vegetables)
2. Low in protein (15% of calories and sources should be soy, lean meats, or poultry)
3. No more than 30% of calories in fat (with only 10% animal fats)
Fresh cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and other red-blue berries Bananas Celery Tomatoes Vegetables including kale, cabbage, parsley, green-leafy vegetables Foods high in bromelain (pineapple) Foods high in vitamin C (red cabbage, red bell peppers, tangerines, mandarins, oranges, potatoes) Drink fruit juices and purified water (8 glasses of water per day)
Recommended Food To Eat 1/2:
Recommended Food To Eat 2/2:
Complex carbohydrates (breads, cereals, pasta, rice, as well as aforementioned vegetables and fruits)
Low-fat dairy products
Chocolate, cocoa
Coffee, tea
Carbonated beverages
Essential fatty acids (tuna and salmon, flaxseed, nuts, seeds)
Tofu, although a legume and made from soybeans, may be a better choice than meat
There are, however, some food moderately high in purines which may not increase risk of gout, such as these:
AsparagusCauliflowerMushroomsPeasSpinachWhole grain breads and cerealsChicken, duck, ham, turkeyKidney and lima beans
Most importantly, remember that purines are found in all protein foods. Therefore, not all sources of purine should be eliminated.
Like anything, drastically changing your diet overnight is not advisable. A better option will be to implement your new diet gradually so that your body can adapt to the different food and keep its processing capability at optimum levels.
