Place Value To the Hundreds PlaceThis presentation is intended to give second grade students a variety of audio/visual and interactive experiences to enhance the understanding of whole number place value to the hundreds place. This PowerPoint presentation can be used in part for a whole group demonstration or it can be used as an independent student learning center activity in class or at home. Students can follow the activities in sequence at their own pace and take an assessment at the end to evaluate their understanding.

Numbers, such as 84, have two digits. Each digit is a different place value.

The left digit is the tens' place which is 8 in this example. It tells you that there are 8 tens.

The right digit is the ones place. It tells you there are 4 ones.

Numbers, such as 284, have three digits. Each digit is a different place value.

The left digit is the hundreds' place. It tells you that there are 2 hundreds.

The center digit is the tens' place which is 8 in this example. It tells you that there are 8 tens.

The right digit is the ones place. It tells you there are 4 ones.
