We are very proud of our tradition of excellence and high student achieve-

ment. The District has been named a Missouri “School of Distinction” for aca-demic performance each year since 2001. Kirkwood seniors graduating in 2014had an average ACT composite test score of 24, which ranks among the top tenin the state of Missouri. The U.S. News and World Report 2014 “Best HighSchools” list ranked Kirkwood High School in the top 5 for “College Prep” cur-riculum in Missouri. The class of 2014 had a 98.7% graduation rate, the highestin school history.

We invite you to visit the schools to see the many renovation projects andadditions to our buildings that have been completed as part of the District’smaster facilities plan. We are excited about the recent gift of $10 million fromthe Walker Foundation to build an indoor competitive swimming pool atKirkwood High School. The “Walker Natatorium” will be one of the most mod-ern and well equipped aquatic facilities in the St. Louis area. Work on E.L. LyonsMemorial Stadium will be completed for the start of the 2014 Pioneer PrideMarching Band and football & soccer seasons. The new handicapped accessible

home bleachers, media rooms, restrooms and lighted walkway will showcase theKHS campus. The renovated Band, Journalism and Atlas classrooms at KHS arealso nearing completion. The renovations will provide additional space, storageand modern facilities for these award winning programs. The District will com-plete a K-12 iPad initiative in the fall of 2014. Students will use iPads at schooland at home as the District implements this innovative approach to maximizelearning through technology.

PREPARING FOR THE SCHOOL YEARNEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT

All students new to the Kirkwood SchoolDistrict enroll at their individual schools. If youdo not know which school your child willattend, please call the Office of StudentServices at 314-213-6105.

New students will be asked to furnish the following items at the time of enrollment: offi-cial copy of birth certificate, Social Securitynumber, a completed physical examination

form with immunization record, and two doc-uments showing proof of residency in theschool district. Proof of residency documentsinclude utility bill, real estate deed, lease agree-ment, and personal property tax receipt.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ENROLLMENTNew elementary students enroll through

their home school office. Parents/guardiansshould phone their child’s school for anappointment. Incoming kindergartners mustbe five years old before Aug. 1, 2014, in order

to enter school in the fall.

NIPHER MIDDLE SCHOOL ENROLLMENTNew students attending Nipher Middle

School may enroll by contacting the schooloffice at 314-213-6180.

All incoming sixth-graders are invited to theNipher Orientation held at the school on Aug.15, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. All currentlyenrolled seventh and eighth graders are invit-ed to attend one of two Back to SchoolOrientation days: Aug 11, from 3 p.m. to 6p.m. or Aug 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

NORTH KIRKWOOD MIDDLESCHOOL ENROLLMENT

New students attending North KirkwoodMiddle School (NKMS) may enroll by contact-ing the school office at 314-213-6100, ext.7303.

All currently enrolled NKMS students inGrades 6-8 are invited to attend one of twoorientation days: Aug. 11th, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.or Aug. 12th, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On Aug 12th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. thereis a 6th Grade Only Parent Open House.

KIRKWOOD HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT All new and returning Kirkwood High

School (KHS) students must register for classesbefore school begins. If you are new to KHSand have not yet enrolled, please call the guid-ance office at 314-213-6118 to schedule anappointment. Parents/guardians of new stu-dents are asked to attend registration withtheir students.

KHS FRESHMAN ORIENTATION DAY All ninth-grade students are expected to

attend KHS Freshman Day on Aug. 18, 7:50a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students will follow theirclass schedules and attend sessions to learnmore about KHS academic requirements,behavior expectations, and extracurricularclubs and activities. Bus transportation will beprovided for students participating in the

Voluntary Transfer Program and for eligibleresident students.

Ninth-grade students will receive additionalinformation on Freshman Day from their gradelevel principal in early August. Parents/guard-

ians of ninth-graders are invited to attend the first part of this morning.

KHS ORIENTATION DAY FOR NEWSTUDENTS GRADES 10-12

New students entering KHS grades 10-12,along with their parents/guardians, are invitedto the first part of the morning session of theKHS Freshman Orientation Day on Aug. 18. Aletter will be sent to these students in early

August describing the agenda pertaining tothem.

IMMUNIZATIONMissouri legislation requires every student

to have documented evidence of immuniza-

tions meeting all state requirements on file attheir school. No student will be allowed tobegin school on Aug. 19 unless all immuniza-tions are up-to-date and documented. Parentswho have questions concerning immunizationrequirements may call the Office of StudentServices, 314-213-6105.

BUS TRANSPORTATIONTo be eligible for free bus transportation to

and from school, a student must live one mileor more from an elementary school, one andone-half miles or more from middle school, or

two miles or more from the high schooStudents who do not qualify for free transpotation may purchase a pass for $500 for thschool year if space is available on an existinroute. Students who qualify for the free oreduced priced meals may purchase a bus paat the rate of $130 a year.

KIRKWOOD BOARD OF EDUCATION 2014-15

ABOUT THE SCHOOL BOARD

The Kirkwood School District Board of Education, the teaching and

support staffs, parents and community share responsibility for creating

successful schools. As elected representatives, the seven-member Board of

Education serves as the governing body for the community’s public school

system. The school board sets District policies, selects the superintendent

of schools, adopts the annual budget, and determines the tax rate.

Community participation at board meetings is encouraged, and a forum

for public comment is provided at the beginning of each meeting.

The annual school board election is held in April. Board members servethree-year, overlapping terms with two or three members elected each

year. School board members, who receive no salary, are committed and

concerned citizens who devote countless hours working on behalf of chil-

dren and the educational interests of Kirkwood School District residents.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS

School board meetings are generally held the first and third Monday

of each month during the school year and monthly during the summer.

Meetings are held in the conference room of the District’s Administrative

Services Center, 11289 Manchester Rd. at 7 p.m. District residents ar

encouraged to attend and may share their views with the board durin

time allotted at the beginning of regular meetings.

Residents may also express their views by writing to the Kirkwood

Board of Education 11289 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood 63122-1197. Boar

members can also be reached through e-mail on the District’s web site

www.kirkwoodschools.org. Copies of materials submitted will be provide

to all board members.

The KSD will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of thDistrict over the next two school years. On Saturday, Sept. 27 a2 p.m., the entire community is welcome to come together ttake a “150th anniversary” photo on the field in the E.L. LyonMemorial Stadium on the KHS campus.

After the photo is snapped, the group will try to break thGuinness World Record for having the most people pat the

heads and rub their tummies at the same time. The District calling the event “The Great Pat Rub” and would like to havover 2,000 people in attendance for the photo and attempt abreaking the record.

Other items tentatively planned to celebrate thsesquicentennial include a family fun run, a communitcelebration at the high school and memorabilia items for saincluding a pictorial history book.

SCHOOL HISTORY:Kirkwood High School (KHS) has a long,

rich history that dates back to the founding

of the Kirkwood School District in 1865.High school and elementary students attend-ed school together in a temporary building,which opened in the fall of 1866, and later inthe Jefferson Avenue School, the District’sfirst formal school built in 1869. African-

American students attended the Booker T. Washington School, which opened in 1869on Adams near Geyer Road. In 1888, theDistrict built the Adams Avenue School netto the Jefferson School and offered a two-

year high school program for students com-pleting the elementary grades. In 1896,Kirkwood offered the first four-year highschool program in St. Louis County; 10 stu-dents were members of the first graduatingclass in the spring of 1897. In 1922, a newhigh school was built on Kirkwood Road, thesite of Nipher Middle School today.

The present Kirkwood High School onEssex Ave. was built in 1955 on a 43-acrecampus. Both white and African-Americanstudents were enrolled to attend high schooltogether for the first time. The campusincludes the Thomas N. Keating PerformanceCenter, a fine arts complex that features an

821-seat theatre; band, art and vocal musicclassrooms; and the privately funded Walker

Commons. The campus also includes the Earland Myrtle Walker Science Center, a state-of-the-art science facility that was dedicated in2007. In addition to taxpayer support of the2005 bond issue to fund the new sciencecenter, private donors contributed to equip-ping the science classrooms through the“Pioneering the Advancement of Science”campaign conducted by the KirkwoodSchool District Foundation.

In the spring of 2014, updates to thejournalism and band classroom spacesbegan. The journalism and band spaces werelast renovated in 1995. The renovationsinclude updated technology and increasedsquare footage. The renovations also includethe high school’s Atlas program, which offerscredit recovery classes to students.

A new physical education and sports cen-ter was completed in fall 2008. The centerfeatures two competitive gyms (DenverMiller Gym and the David Holley AssemblyHall) the David Damerall Fitness Center, adance studio, health classrooms, wrestlingroom and staff offices. With support fromcitizens and private donors through the

Kirkwood School District Foundation, a newtrack and synthetic turf were installed in KH

E.L. Lyons Memorial Stadium and ready foschool and community use in October 2010In spring 2012, the new track was dedicateas the Alvin Miller Track in honor of the 198KHS graduate, who is regarded as the besathlete in school history. In the fall of 2014renovations to the stadium bleachers will bcompleted; the renovations include accessbility for the physically challenged, nerestrooms, concession and broadcast cente

Walker Foundatioannounced a $10 million grant agreement tprovide funds to build a 25-yard stretch poon the campus of Kirkwood High SchooThe Walker Natatorium will be a 12-montfacility, enabling the District to add watesafety curriculum to physical education, anthe KHS swim and dive and water polo teamwill have a place to train and compete ocampus. The Walker Natatorium is scheduleto be completed in the fall of 2015.

pool on the campus of KirkwoodHigh School. The Walker

Natatorium will be a 12-month

facility, enabling the District to

add water safety curriculum to

physical education, and the KHS

swim and dive and water polo

teams will have a place to train and

compete on campus. The skills

learned in The Walker Natatorium

will help students maintain a

healthy lifestyle for years to come.

A moveable bulkhead will be

installed so that swimming and

diving can occur simultaneously

and ensure all-deep water for waterpolo. The depth of the pool will

be 4 feet to 12 feet six inches.

Construction will start this

summer, and should be completed

by the start of the 2015-16 school

year.

VISTA Program

School History:In August 2010, the Kirkwood School District

partnered with the Webster Groves School

District to provide VISTA, a new studentprogram offered in the Hough Learning Center.

VISTA serves approximately 125 high schoolstudents from Kirkwood and Webster Groves whoneed assistance with credit recovery or obtaining adiploma in an alternative setting. The VISTAprogram replaces the Collaborative School programthat was previously offered through a partnershipwith Kirkwood, Brentwood, Clayton and Ladueschool districts.

VISTA provides a productive, consistent, and

safe non-traditional community for high schoolstudents. Given the unique needs of our

students, VISTA is relationship basedprogramming with individual learningexperiences that develop the potential of everystudent.

Not all students attain full success at theirhome schools. It is the District’s goal to provideall students the academic and/or social andemotional support they need in order to succeed.The VISTA staff members take pride in knowingevery student on a personal level, valuing andtreating each one as an individual, and placing

each student at the center of all decisions.Students are accepted into VISTA by

referral process beginning at the studenthome school. Referrals are made for a variety reasons that may include credit recoverindividualized instruction, alternative settinsocial or emotional concerns, school to wotransition or diploma completion. Studenretain enrollment at their home school whiattending VISTA even though they may nhave courses on the home school campus. Thgoal of VISTA is that students will return to thehome school as soon as possible.

School History:The Nipher Middle School building was built in 1921

and officially opened in September 1922 as Kirkwood HighSchool, the community’s new high school. Before itsconstruction, secondary students attended school withelementary-age children in one of the district’s firstbuildings, a four-room brick school built in 1869 at Adamsand Jefferson. A few years after KHS opened on KirkwoodRoad, a separate south building was built in 1929 to houseseventh and eighth grade students in a junior high school.

Following the tradition of naming public schools foroutstanding community citizens, the Board of Educationchose to the name the junior high school in honor of Dr.Francis E. Nipher, who had been a distinguished educatorand professor at Washington University in St. Louis. Thenorth building housed Kirkwood High School until itsmove in 1954 to its present location on Essex Ave.

During reorganization in 1976, Nipher Junior High

School became Nipher Middle School to house Grades 6

through 8 with Grade 9 moving to Kirkwood High School.Renovations resulting from a 1993 tax/bond issueincluded construction of a two-story addition in the frontof the building to house a new library/media center,computer labs, classrooms, the main school and counselors’offices as well as technology and other buildingimprovements. In 2005, a two-part bond initiative fundedinfrastructure improvements at the school.

In November 2010, the KSD communityoverwhelmingly approved Proposition 1, a $33.5 millionbond issue to support the district’s master facilities plan.Prop 1 renovations at Nipher included the constructionof a three-story addition to house six state-of-the-artscience classrooms. The new science facility opened forstudents in the 2012-13 school year. In the summer of2013, front entrance renovations occurred to improve

building security.

The Nipher building is a designated historical landmaand its recent additions continue to reflect the origindesign of William B. Ittner, renowned school architect.

Designated as a Missouri Gold Star School, Nipher proud of its students and their achievements. Niphstudents consistently excel in academic competitions thinclude FIRST Robotics, Science Olympiad, GeographBee, math and musical competitions. The dedicated stais committed to character education and to helping students develop a sense of belonging in the Niphlearning community. In addition to providing rigorolearning experiences, the school offers opportunities fstudents to explore a variety of interests through playmusicals, choirs, bands, orchestra, fencing, archerweight lifting wall-climbing, intramurals and a widvariety of clubs.

On May 28, 2013, Keysor officially dedicated theirProject IDEA “landscape for learning,” a new outdoorlearning and play space on roughly 1.5 acres on thewest side of campus. Project IDEA, which stands forImagination, Discovery, Exploration and Adventure,” isan inclusive space with various play structures plus awalking path, garden lab, soccer field, stage area, andother features that support creative learning and arespect for the environment. Designed with studentsand community members in mind, the project was

funded with support of the Keysor PTO, private donorand community foundations and grants.Keysor is proud of its students and staff for the

consistent focus on learning and achievement. It wnamed a Missouri Gold Star School in 2011 and 201a 2013 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and was onof 22 schools nationwide invited to present at the 201Model Schools Conference. School History:The state of Missouri recognized North Glendale as a

Gold Star School in 2014. North Glendale ElementarySchool opened in the fall of 1938. Two years later the northand south wings were added. In 1964, the south additionwas constructed and the gym was rebuilt, moving theschool office to its present location in the center of thebuilding. combining resources to benefit children and instruction. 2010, the Kirkwood School District, North Glendale PTOand the city of Glendale collaborated to build a new schoplayground and to create a school/community park area.

School History:Robinson Elementary School was built in 1929 as

a three-story brick building and officially welcomedchildren in the fall of 1930. The school was formallynamed the George R. Robinson Elementary School tohonor a prominent community member. Mr.Robinson, a co-founder of the Ralston DanforthCommission Co., is remembered for his philanthropiccontributions and for establishing youth organizationsin the Kirkwood community. Robinson School hasexpanded through building additions in 1937, 1949,1953, 1987 and, most recently, in 2012 throughProposition 1. Prop 1 funded improvements includingconstruction of a 25,000 sp. School History:Opened in the fall of 1946, Tillman Elementary

School was named in honor of Frank P. Tillman,Kirkwood Superintendent of Schools from 1924-47.The west end of the building is the original structure,which expanded with middle and east sections addedin 1951. A gymnasium was built in 1964. In 1987, athree-floor classroom addition was added to the backof the building. Six new classrooms in a one-flooraddition were built in 1993.

School History:Kirkwood Early Childhood Center (KECC) is a licensed and

fully accredited early education center serving children and

families prenatal until the start of kindergarten. KECC is open year round, 6:30a to 6:00p, Monday through Friday, and offers avariety of full- and half-day programs to meet the individualneeds of families with preschool children.

KECC opened in 1991 with 70 children enrolled in 6classrooms housed in the former Hough Elementary Schoolbuilding and an adjacent one-story wing. In May of 2002, KECCmoved into a new and greatly improved facility which features12 spacious classrooms designed for preschool-age children, fullgymnasium, screening and developmental assessment rooms,and a discovery room. An enhanced security system and manyother new features make KECC a world-class facility. In addition,KECC is now licensed to serve 399 children. The new building ispart of the Hough Community Learning Center complex.

KECC provides several options and a variety of programs forearly childhood education. These programs include a full-daypreschool program, half-day preschool, parents as teachers, andearly childhood special education programs. In addition, aSummer Adventure program is available for children who have

completed kindergarten through 5th grade. KECC offers Adventure Club before- and after-school programs at all five

Kirkwood elementary school locations.The curriculum in KECC classrooms is developed to alloweach child and family to become personally involved in theadventure of learning. This includes cognitive development inmath, science, pre-reading, art, and social studies; social/emotional development; language development; music andmovement; field sports, water play, and gross motor/gymactivities. Educational assessments and developmental checklistsare administered in October and March based on observations ofdevelopmental milestones. The results are shared with parentsduring parent-teacher conferences. Services for students withdevelopmental disabilities or delays are readily available by anoutstanding staff of special educators located within the building.This staff also provides outreach services to our community earlyeducation partners.

The dedicated staff is committed to providing a nurturingand inclusive, yet challenging learning environment for youngchildren throughout the various programs offered at the center.KECC is proud of the longevity of its highly qualified staff

members who engage in a minimum of 15 hours of professiondevelopment annually. KECC has received recognition for being

“Positive Behavior Support” award-winning school for eigconsecutive years. The center is a member of the St. Lou Association for Education of Young Children (SLYAEC), the ChDay Care Association, Missouri Board of Voluntary Accreditatioand a participant in the USDA Food Program. KECC also offetuition scholarships for families receiving Title XX funding.

The Parents as Teachers program offers information aboearly childhood development and support for expectant parenand parents of children from birth until kindergarten eligibiliage. PAT is free and voluntary and open to all parents in tKirkwood School District. In 2013-14, PAT provided services approximately 516 Kirkwood families.

The PAT program offers a variety of services designed to heall children receive the best possible start in life. These programinclude home visits conducted by an early childhood specialisgroup connections on childhood topics such as discipline, toilteaching, sleep issues and sibling rivalry; community resources fparents and children; and screenings for hearing, vision, healtand overall development.

PROTECTION OF PUPIL RIGHTS AMENDMENT (PPRA)The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment

(PPRA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232h; 34 CFR Part 98)

applies to programs that receive funding fromthe U.S. Department of Education (ED). PPRAis intended to protect the rights of parentsand students in two ways:

• It seeks to ensure that schools and con-tractors make instructional materials availablefor inspection by parents if those materials willbe used in connection with an ED-fundedsurvey, analysis, or evaluation in which theirchildren participate; and

• It seeks to ensure that schools and con-tractors obtain written parental consent beforeminor students are required to participate inany ED-funded survey, analysis, or evaluationthat reveals information concerning:

1. Political affiliations;2. Mental and psychological problems

potentially embarrassing to the student andhis/her family;

3. Sex behavior and attitudes;4. Illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating

and demeaning behavior;5. Critical appraisals of other individuals

with whom respondents have close familyrelationships;

6. Legally recognized privileged or analo-gous relationships, such as those of lawyers,physicians, and ministers; or

7. Income (other than that required bylaw to determine eligibility for participationin a program or for receiving financial assis-tance under such program).

SSD PUBLIC NOTICE All responsible public agencies are required to

locate, evaluate, and identify children with disabilitieswho are under the jurisdiction of the agency, regard-less of the severity of the disability, including childrenattending private schools, children who live outside

the district but are attending a private school withinthe district, highly mobile children, such as migrantand homeless children, children who are wards of thestate, and children who are suspected of having a dis-ability and in need of special education even thoughthey are advancing from grade to grade. The Special School District of St. Louis County(SSD) and the Kirkwood School District assure thatpersonally identifiable information collected, used, ormaintained by the agency for the purposes of identi-fication, evaluation, placement or provision of FAPE ofchildren with disabilities may be inspected and/orreviewed by their parents/guardians. Parents/guard-ians may request amendment to the educationalrecord if the parent/guardian believes the record is

inaccurate, misleading, or violates the privacy or other

rights of their child. Parents have the right to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Education or thMissouri Department of Elementary and SecondarEducation concerning alleged failures by the district tmeet the requirements of the Family Education

Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).The Special School District of St. Louis Count

(SSD) and the Kirkwood School District have deveoped a Local Compliance Plan for the implementatioof State Regulations for the Individuals with DisabilitieEducation Act (IDEA). This plan contains the agencypolicies and procedures regarding storage, disclosuto third parties, retention and destruction of personally identifiable information and the agency’s assuances that services are provided in compliance witthe General Education Provision Act (GEPA). Thesplans may be reviewed at the Special School Districof St. Louis County (SSD) or the Kirkwood CentrOffice during regular school hours on days school is session. This notice will be provided in native languag

as appropriate.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)Annual Notification/Student Records

The protection of student rights has always been atop priority of the Kirkwood School District. Thisdocument is distributed annually to all parents andstudents in order to comply with state and federalrequirements to notify the parents/guardians and eli-

gible students of their rights with respect to the stu-dent’s educational records.

In general, a student’s educational record includesany information maintained by the school district,which contains information directly related to a stu-dent. A major exception would be a personal recordkept by a staff member if it is kept in the sole posses-sion of the maker of the record and is not accessible orrevealed to any other person except a temporary sub-stitute for the maker of the record.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act(FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years ofage certain rights with respect to the student’s educa-tion records. These rights are:

1. The right to inspect and review the student’seducation records. Parents or eligible students should

submit to the school principal a written request thatidentifies, as precisely as possible, the record(s) theywish to inspect. The school official will make arrange-ments for access and notify the parent or eligible stu-dent of the time and place where the records may beinspected.

2. The right to request the amendment of thestudent’s education records that the parent or eligiblestudent believes are inaccurate or misleading. Parentsor eligible students may ask the school to amend arecord that they believe is inaccurate or misleading orin violation of the student’s privacy. They should writethe principal or appropriate official, clearly identify thepart of the record they want to change and specifywhy it is inaccurate or misleading. If the schooldecides not to amend the record as requested by the

parent or eligible student, the school will notify theparent or eligible student of the decision and advisethem of their right to a hearing regarding the requestfor amendment.

3. The right to consent to disclosure of personallyidentifiable information contained in the student’seducation records except to the extent that FERPA

authorizes disclosure without consent. One exception,which permits disclosure without consent, is disclosureto school officials with legitimate educational interests.

A school official is a person employed by the school asan administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff

member; a person serving on the School Board; aperson or company with whom the school has con-tracted to perform a special task; or a parent or stu-dent serving on an official committee, such as a disci-plinary or grievance committee, or assisting anotherschool official in performing his or her tasks. A schoolofficial has a legitimate educational interest if the offi-cial needs to review an education record in order tofulfill his or her professional responsibility. Uponrequest, the school discloses education records with-out consent to officials of another student district inwhich a student seeks or intends to enroll.

4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S.Department of Education concerning alleged failuresby the school with the requirements of FERPA. Thename and address of the office that administers FERPA

is the Family Policy Compliance Office U.S. Departmentof Education, 400 Maryland Avenue, SW, Washington,DC 20202-4605.

5. Directory Information may be released byschool officials. This includes print and electronicpublications of the school district that, if disclosed,would not be considered as determined by theKirkwood School District as harmful or an invasion ofprivacy. This information may be released withoutprior written consent to parent and student organiza-tions for marketing purposes; such as for “buzz” booksproduced in the fall, and to outside organizationsincluding, but not limited to, companies that manu-facture class rings or publish yearbooks in the spring.In addition two federal laws require local educationalagencies (LEAs) receiving assistance under the

Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965(ESEA) to provide military recruiters, upon request,with three directory information categories – namesaddresses and telephone listings – unless parents haveadvised the LEA that they do not want their student’sinformation disclosed without their prior written con-sent. Such information is also considered a “public

record” which must be released upon demand to anperson who requests it, under the Missouri SunshinLaw. If a parent, guardian, person acting as a studentparent in absence of a parent or guardian, or the student (if 18 or older), does not want the district t

release the information listed below, they must notithe district in writing within 10 days of receiving thnotification of the information they do not wanreleased.

The following “Directory Information” may breleased without obtaining parental consent:

Student’s name, parent’s name, address, telphone number, electronic mail address, date and placof birth, grade level, major field of study, enrollmenstatus, participation in officially recognized activitieand sports, photographs, weight and height of members of the athletic teams, dates of attendancdegrees, honors, awards received, most recent prevous school attended.

The district has determined that the VoluntaInterdistrict Choice Corporation (VICC) and its officer

employees and agents are school officials with legitmate educational interests because they act for and obehalf of the district with respect to transfer studenand the transfer program, and because they seek tadvance the interest of both. A transfer studentattendance records and other educational records reevant to the student’s participation in the program oto the program itself may accordingly be disclosed t

VICC without obtaining written consent from the paent/guardian or eligible student.

munity volunteers have long contributed tomaking Kirkwood schools the best learningenvironments for children by donating theirtime and talents in a variety of ways. Volunteersassist classroom teachers, work with individualstudents, perform clerical duties, plant shrubsand flowers, or help school nurses and librari-ans.

Advisory Council (PAC) was developed to provideprofessional and supportive connections amongparents and school staff who share an interest inpromoting the education of children with dis-abilities. Each school has several parents who

represent their school on the district-level PAC.These parents also work with their schools to sup-port families of students with special needs.Kirkwood’s district-level PAC meets several timeseach year to share information and seek inputfrom parents on district planning for special edu-
