Workforce Challenges Angie Findling, US Bank Home Mortgage President, Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce As a CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) Lender, I am focused on improving the lives of low- and moderate-income families by providing accessible mortgage loans to those families. Providing these opportunies also helps support community development. Homeowners become stable employees. Good-paying, stable jobs are not only important to workers and their families but are also the foundaon of a strong community. As local employers face challenges maintaining an adequate workforce, retenon becomes as important as recruitment. Compensaon, benefits, incenves all lend to retenon but according to an arcle online by Shep Hyken “Not unlike what a business does to get and keep customers, employers must work harder to recruit and retain the best employees”. In a study by Businessolver “96 percent of respondents rate empathy as an important senment for companies to demonstrate”. I’ve been the happiest in posions that value me as a person and empathize with my work-life challenges. Wages become less of a concern than feeling content and supported in my workplace when empathy is demonstrated. “If your organizaon is not thinking about – even focusing on – empathy, you are at risk of losing top candidates as well as tenured employees. With so many companies worried about customer loyalty, perhaps they should shiſt some of the effort to creang employee loyalty. Families of 2 and 3 generaons enjoyed the fesvies and parcipated in the acvies. Thank you to the commiee chairs for all your hard work! Luke Callaghan chaired the United Way Apple Pie Contest and Aucon. Dan Peterson and Brad Hudson directed the Community Band concert. The Aaron Russell Band performed at the Summer on the Square concert, sponsored by Chariton Valley Associaon. Zac Burden and the North Star Rotary Club chaired the Joint Service Club Pancake Breakfast. Lonnie Byrn and Mariann Larkin chaired the Classic Car Show. LaRoyce Allemang directed Cemetery Theater. Rodney Sadler of Kirksville Parks and Recreaon Department chaired the parade. Dan Marn and Lynda Furney chaired the FLATS Uncle Sam Run and Alan Daniels and the Kirksville Country Club served as the Fireworks Technicians. Thank you to the 100+ volunteers that make this fesval happen. A very special thank you to our Fireworks Sponsors: City of Kirksville; Kirksville Tourism; KLTE Radio; Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce; The Kirksville Country Club. Along with creang days of patrioc, all - American fun, the Tourism Office is proud to partner with many charies in town. The pie event raised $1,600 for the United Way. The Car Show is providing $500 for next year’s fireworks. The Joint Service Club Pancake Breakfast made over $3,000. The net proceeds will go to help pay for next year’s fireworks display. Cemetery Theater made over $350. Curtain Call Theater and Friends of Forest Llewellyn Cemetery will share the proceeds. The Uncle Sam Run took in over $3,000 which will help build the FLATS Trail. It is wonderful to have a fesval that provides entertainment and recreaon for both visitors and community members. It is also a great opportunity for charies to fundraise. Next year the fesval will be on July 3-5. Put the dates on your calendars and invite your friends and family to visit Kirksville! The 15th Annual Red, White, and Blue Festival brought many visitors to our town. Families of 2 and 3 generations enjoyed the festivities and participated in the activities.
