Ref Issue – Potential shared path – on one side of road to Mid Calder

which would be suitable for Level 1 trained cyclists while more experienced ones can use the road which is not busy and has a 40mph speed limit

Ref Issue – Signing – well located signing with destinations and distances on them well out of reach of vandals or graffiti artists

5.11

5.12

Recommendation – consider converting footway to shared use cycle

path for direct route to Mid Calder Recommendation – review cycle signing for route as it appears a

number of different schemes have been put in place over the years and be consistent with heights, branding and information

Table 6. Mid Calder to East Calder Ref

Issue –Signing – signs for on road route large and say where the road is going while the cycle route sticker is too small easy to miss and only gives information on the route not where it is going

Ref Issue – guardrail and footway – Guardrail is close to the road and there is a very narrow footway on one side of bridge.

6.1

6.2

Recommendation – consider providing cycle signing for route with destinations and distances to them

Recommendation - consider reviewing need for guard rail and making bridge one way shuttle working with traffic lights so footway can be widened

Ref Issue – Road – Road has a good surface, is reasonably wide and not very busy on visit so suitable for a Level 3 trained cyclist to use

Ref Issue – Path – potential shared use path by the side of the Sports centre well lit and good surface
