Principal's PerspectivePrincipal's Perspective
Dear Parents,
It has been a terrific fortnight at KinrossPrimary School, particularly celebratingScience Week. Our junior studentsheaded to Scitech for an interactiveexcursion and all students participated ina science incursion. I would like to thankMrs Brioney Smith, Associate Principal,
for her fantastic organisation and preparation leading up toScience Week. The Science Committee have also assisted herin planning and leading the organisation of STEM rotationswithin each year level.
Kindy/Pre-Primary PlaygroundKindy/Pre-Primary Playground
Over the next holidays, we will be lifting the grass area that iscurrently fenced off and a new bike track will be constructed.The old rubber from the large playground will be removed andthe whole area will be mulched and landscaped. One of thesandpits will be turned into an outdoor classroom/seatingspace. A master plan is being developed by Nature PlaySolutions and the school will construct the new playground instages. If there are any parents who have a bobcat and areinterested in helping with the first stage of the project, pleasecontact myself in the front office. The more we can keep costsdown in the first stage, the more quality new equipment wecan provide for our younger students.

The City of Joondalup undertook some work last week to pavethe verge at the front of the school. They informed me they
would also be putting in bollards to deter illegal parking. Thiswork has now been completed.
WAPPA ConferenceWAPPA Conference
I will be away next week (W-F) at the West Australian PrimaryPrincipals Association Annual Conference. The theme of theconference is ‘Effective Teams, Effective Schools.’ Mrs JillDodge will act as School Principal while I am away during thistime. Mrs Brioney Smith, Mrs Lou Bennier and Mr Sam Carlislewill also attend all or part of the conference.
Classes for 2020Classes for 2020
If you will be leaving the school and not returning for 2020,please inform the office as soon as possible, to assist us inplanning classes for next year. I am keen to obtain newenrolments for Pre-Primary, as numbers are lower in this area.If you have not enrolled your kindy child for 2020, please dothis urgently. We are nearly full with 4 groups for 2020!
WAGSM PerformanceWAGSM Performance
I attended the WAGSM Concert last Thursday at CrownBurswood. Our talented PE teacher, Mrs Nat Kaminski, hasbeen training 70 students for months to perform a singing/dancing routine based on the theme of ‘Old Rock ‘n Roll’. Ourstudents were the closing act for the night. They wereabsolutely spectacular and I was so proud of them all. I mustgive special mention to Sam Martin, who stole the show withhis bath tub routine. Sam, you were an incredible performer.You have a great career ahead of you in the entertainmentindustry, I am certain! I would also like to thank all parents forsupporting your child to attend rehearsals and for providingcostumes. This is an experience your child will never forget.

In Week 3, the Year 5 and 6 studentsattended an incursion run by officersfrom the Joondalup Police Station. Theofficers discussed issues that impacton the local community, such as graffitiand trespassing. In addition, ourstudents were very excited to seesome of the equipment that theWestern Australian Police Force use.
Some lucky students (and teachers) got to try on the riot gear,wear handcuffs, and hold batons. Even Mrs Gorton foundherself in handcuffs for a few minutes!

A reminder about Year 4 PEAC Testing:A reminder about Year 4 PEAC Testing:
All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessedfor suitability for the PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge)Program. Testing at Kinross Primary School will occur onTuesday 20th August. The scores from the test will be used inthe selection of students for PEAC courses and extensionprograms during 2020 to 2021 and also to inform educationalprovision in schools. If you do not wish your child to beincluded in the PEAC assessment, please notify the school inwriting by Friday 16th August.

Dr Cameron is visitingKinross Primary School to run workshops with our students.PP-2 students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen BookReading and follow-along drawing activity with Cameron. Year3-6 students will be taking a behind-the-scenes look at creatinga book, and applying their own creative components. Studentsand teachers are looking forward to a great day!
In conjunction with the Author Visit, Kinross PS families havea special opportunity to purchase signed and personalisedcopies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual booksare $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available.Students will receive an order form on the day of theworkshops. Forms and payment can be returned the followingday, Tuesday 17 September, to the office.

What a fortnight we have had and it isn’t over yet! NationalScience Week runs from 10-18 August but we just love Sciencehere at Kinross and wanted to make it a little longer.
Year 1-3 Excursion to ScitechYear 1-3 Excursion to Scitech
The first major activity of the week was the junior primary
excursion to Scitech on Wednesday 7th August. It is quite atask sending that many students off on an excursion and I wantto formally thank all of the teachers and parent helpers thatmade it a success. The students looked quite tired when theyreturned to school but everyone I spoke to said they had a greattime. Here are some photos of the day.

On Friday 9th August, classes around the school joined forcesand had STEAM activities in their classroom. STEAM is anintegrated unit of work that includes at least two of the followingsubjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts andMaths. Students rotated around in groups and got to exploremany different activities.

WELL, what can I say other than …boy was I so, so PROUD!
The 70 kids that took to the stage impressed me beyondwords with the way each and every one of them performed asif they were professionals having the time of their lives. Yourbehaviour whilst being in the audience and also back stagemade myself and all the teachers very proud also. I couldn’thave asked for anything more.
A MASSIVE THANK YOUMASSIVE THANK YOU to all the parents who took so muchtime and effort into making sure all the kids arrived on time andwere groomed perfectly.
To Miss Quirke, Miss Conner, Mrs Douglas and Miss Boylanmuch appreciation for all you did to help the students andmyself on the night. (Toilet runs, make up touch ups, numberpinning, hair spraying etc) We couldn’t have done it withoutyou.
Also THANK YOUTHANK YOU to 20 of my Kinross collegues who came towatch our kids perform. They loved seeing and knowing thatyou were there watching.

Everyone is loving the new routines we do every Mondaymorning and this week we commenced training after schoolfor our competition teams. Well done to everyone who hasjoined and I look forward to getting you ready along with MrsStravens for this event.
AthleticsAthletics
All students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 have commencedtraining for our Faction Carnival events held in Week 7 of thisterm. This includes sprints, relays, long jump, shot put and avariety of team events suitable to the age and development ofeach year level.
It is an asset to the children to have a pair of supportive, wellfitted sports shoes all year round for physical activity lessons,but especially important in Term 3 for all the running trainingthe students undertake.

TA16 Mrs Boylan class made baby carriers to keep an egg safefor a week. They have to treat them like children and care forthem. They also are writing a 'diary of a wimpy egg' to showwhat the eggs got up to during the week. We have attachedsome photos for you to view.

We can’t quite believe we are ½ way through the school yeareither! We have had such a productive start to the year and weare really hoping to continue through to Term 4. Supporting ourschool is something we are all so passionate about and it hasbeen really fulfilling to see all the changes we have been able tomake around the school.
Our volunteer base is looking a little small as of late and whilstwe understand our parents are all busy we’d like to remind youjust how valued you are and how much of a difference you canmake within our school.
This year we have tried to do things a little differently and asyou may recall we made it our mission to support not only thebig projects but also our much loved teachers, and in particularthe specialist teachers. They gave us their wish lists and wehave been able to tick some off in such a short amount of timealready! It really is fantastic to see our parents fundraising effortsbeing put to good use around the school.

Our fundraising efforts so far this year have brought in nearly$9000. A further $6000 comes from the P&C contributions.The Uniform Shop and the Canteen have also contributed tothe above total spend and the balance from 2018’s fundraisingmakes up the difference.
This is a HUGE list and we now take stock and start to build ouraccount balances back up ready for 2020.

Car boot SaleCar boot Sale
The wonderful Margaret Patullo gave up her Saturday mornings
on the 3rd and 10th August to coordinate a car boot sale tosupport the parents and local community. As a P&C we raised$300 from sellers’ bays and a sausage sizzle. We hope thosewho came along went home a little lighter than they arrivedwith. We aim to make this a regular quarterly event and hopewith more promotion they become even more successful.

We thought we’d change things a little this year with a
Halloween Disco on Friday 1st November. Parents get yourthinking caps on for some great costumes and moreinformation will follow towards the end of term 3.
Uniform ShopUniform Shop
The uniform shop will continue to open on Tuesdays in Term3. If you have old uniform that no longer fits please considerdonating as the money raised from second hand sales coverthe EFTPOS fees.
A reminder that we have long sleeved polos available in all sizesso if your child is prone to losing jumpers maybe consider oneof these instead. We also have bottle green tights and lycrastyle jazz pants available for the girls in the colder months.
Our volunteer base for Uniform shop is a little low and we wouldbe grateful of some extra help next term. I promise you it’s veryeasy and we are all really friendly! If you’d like to help please seeMargaret for more information.

Claire will be on holiday for the next 2 weeks and to make thingsa little easier for our volunteers who are stepping up whilst sheis away there will be a few small changes to the menu. The mainchange is that PIZZA will no longer be offered on Fridays.

Over the past 4 years Claire has worked phenomenally hard toimprove our canteen and offer our children healthy food thatalso tastes great! Our canteen bank balance has slowly creptup and it is with great excitement that the Canteen has beenable to give something back to our children with a contributionof $3000 which has been used to update outdated classroomliteracy books in the junior years.
Please remember to keep supporting the canteen and in turnour school by ordering your child’s lunch every so often andsupporting our meal deal fundraisers each term.
The canteen will be open from 8.15 Tuesday - Friday. (Parentsplease note children should not be at school before this time).Please remember to utilize www.quickcliq.com.au for youronline ordering and save time lining up or digging out change inthe mornings.

Every time a new child registers for school banking the schoolgets money. We also earn money from our regular bankerseach term.! Our income from school banking this year(including term 4 of last year) is just over $1000. This has beensplit equally between the junior and senior years and will beused to update math supplies for the classrooms.
Our banking numbers are a little lower than usual. This weeksaw only 64 bankers before the siren. Remember you can bankas little as 10c and every time your child banks they receive asilver token. The purpose of banking is to show our children thatsaving is positive regardless of the amount.
School banking rewards have been ordered and we apologizefor the delay in sending these out to class. They will be sortedby Friday and put in the teachers pigeon holes.
