Pedals Plus PowerPedals Plus Power
Wayne Kennerley, pictured above is the proud owner of the unique Electric Bike store ‘Ped-als Plus Power’ based at Halfpenny Green Vineyards, Bobbington. Wayne opened the doorsto his Electric Bicycle business just 10 months ago and with UK sales hitting an all timerecord in 2009, Wayne looks set for a busy year as for more and more people electric bikeswill be a revelation.
WHY ELECTRIC?Reducing your carbon footprint, Electric bikes boast zero-emissions technology. Bychoosing to cycle rather than drive you will be contributing towards a cleaner and safer en-vironment.Reduce your transport costs, the cost of running a car far exceeds the cost of an elec-tric bike. Electric bikes cost from 3 - 7 Pence to fully charge, they do not require any roadtax, insurance or MOT, giving you with a huge annual saving.Improve your fitness levels, you may be thinking that electric bikes do not provide youwith as good a work out as standard bikes. However, the advantage of electric bikes is thatyou can build up your fitness gradually.Quick town & city travel, towns and cities are becoming more and more congested, in-creasing the average commuting time for vehicles. In congested cities traveling by bicycleis more often than not faster than traveling by car.Enjoy the countryside, the British countryside is a beautiful place, and a great way to ex-plore it is by bike. However, sometimes it is difficult to really enjoy it when you are strug-gling to get up a hill or just physically tired. Electric bikes offer a more relaxed ride, allowingyou to enjoy the scenery and the fresh air.Continue cycling at an older age, as you get older cycling becomes more difficult andchallenging, forcing many to give it up. This is a shame as cycling is a great form of relax-ation as well as exercise. With an electric bike people can carry on cycling until a later ageand reap the rewards from it.
Specialising in electric bikes ‘Pedals Plus Power’ have a great range of electric bikes on offerincluding Ebikes which have a throttle on the handlebars and Pedelec bikes which includepower assisted pedaling, models are available from Wisper, Ultra Motor, Urban Mover &Gepida all of whom are members of the British Electrical Bike Association (BEBA), giving youpeace of mind that your purchase is of an exceptional standard and will serve you well formany years to come.
OVER THE NEXT TWENTY YEARS, ELECTRIC BICYCLES HAVE FAR MOREPOTENTIAL THAN ELECTRIC CARS TO CHANGE THE WAY WE TRAVEL

Most dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substancethat occurs naturally in the body. Hyaluronic Acid fills wrinkles and gently replaces whatthe skin has lost due to the natural ageing process.
CHEMICAL PEELSThese procedures even out the complexion and have a marked tightening effect on theskin. These treatments provide a glowing fresh skin and help to erase acne scaring andsage spots caused by sun damage.AHA – A slow release superficial peel, which evens out the complexion and gives a tight-ening effect to the skin, without visible skin flaking. This treatment also helps erase acnescaring.TCA –A medium peel, where downtime is around 5 days, meaning that the skin has visiblepeeling and redness. Excellent treatment to reduce acne scaring.

What a wonderful spring it has been for blossom.Everywhere trees and shrubs have been simplyloaded with colourful flowers, and after such a severewinter, it really has been a joy to see. After a verylate start, our gardens finally burst into flower andwith cooler nights through late April and the first halfof May, our spring displays have lasted really well. Byearly June, all this should be over, and we enter a pe-riod which British bee-keepers often refer to as the'June Gap'. The reason for this is that in most sea-sons, there is indeed a short period when most of the spring flowers have finished, and the sum-mer ones have not as yet come into bloom. Gardeners will notice this when all the spring beddingis cleared away and the summer bedding still has some growing to do before the real displaystarts. Our countryside flowers can also follow a fairly similar pattern when the fields of dande-lions have finished, and the white clover has yet to bloom, although the recent upsurge in oil- seedrape production has helped to bridge this gap somewhat for honey bees.
This June gap can be a worrying time for bee-keepers, especially if the weather also turns wetand cool. The honey bee colonies have increased rapidly during April and May, and if suddenlythere are very few flowers for them to feed on, then colonies can starve just when they are get-ting up to full strength. Our gardens can be vital to all our bees including our native bumble bees, and any plants that will flower in early June can be really important to them, especially if they offernectar and pollen. Honey bee colonies have been subject to some unexplained winter losses allover the world, and their roll as pollinators for fruit and vegetables is so important that we all needto encourage bees into our gardens whenever we can. Yes, bees can sting, but only when theyfeel threatened, and if we leave them alone to get on with their work, then it is very unlikely thatanyone will get stung.
There are lots of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants that are good for bees, and if you are ob-servant, it will not take you long to see which ones are of special interest to them. Generally, sin-gle flowers which offer nectar or pollen are what the bees are searching for. One of the very bestplants is Cotoneaster horizontalis, a shrub suitable for both walls and borders.. The small pink-ish-white flowers appear in June just when the bees need them most, and if planted in a sunnyposition, I can guarantee they will be covered in honey bees. This will in turn ensure a wonder-ful display of deep red berries in the autumn. Apple trees and indeed crab apple trees are veryattractive to bees, as are raspberry and blackberry flowers, and again we will benefit from theirpollinating activities at the end of the summer with an abundance of delicious and colourful fruit. In the rock garden, thymes are superb bee plants. There are many ornamental varieties to choosefrom which will give a colourful display, as well as the culinary varieties for the herb garden whichare so useful in flavouring our cooking. The herbaceous geraniums are not only very easy to growand long flowering, but they also attract bees. Although bees will search out individual plants, whatreally attracts them are larger drifts of one kind. If they find these, they have an ingenious wayof telling other worker bees in the hive just where to find them. We should not forget our bum-ble bees, and during June, my garden is full of foxgloves. It never ceases to fascinate me as I seethem move from flower to flower in search of food. Foxgloves are so easy to grow, and with allthis pollinating going on, there is never a shortage of seed to produce plants in the followingyears.
It is vitally important that we make our gardens bee and insect friendly, not only for their sur-vival but also for our own. With so much intensive farming in the countryside, our gardens havebecome a haven for our honey bees, and often hives located in a built up area with lots of gar-dens can sometimes produce more honey than those in the countryside. Not everyone likes honey, but I for one would certainly not like to be without it, but more than this, much of the food weeat is reliant on these vital insects so we should all be doing our bit to ensure their survival.

It is important for the kennels to under-stand the importance of keeping your dogentertained during their stay. They shouldbe provided with toys when inside and begiven access to a secure outdoor areawhere they can play in safety and burn offsome energy! Some will also walk the ani-mals in their care. If you are concernedthat your dog will find kenneling distressingthen fitting them with a DAP (Dog Appeas-ing Pheromone) collar before they go hasbeen shown to significantly reduce stresslevels. Another good idea is to have a trialrun and just put your pet in for a singlenight to see how they cope.
It is important to have piece of mind thatyour pet is safe and you should enquireabout the kennels security arrangements. Most will have strict protocols in place forwho is allowed access and for ensuring thedogs have no opportunity to escape. Theyshould also be covered by a good standardof kennel insurance. They should take fullcontact details for you and know which vetsyou use. If your dog has an on-going ill-ness do provide them with full details of thecondition and ensure you leave enoughmedication.
There are many different types of dogboarding facilities available from the tradi-tional businesses with individual kennelsand runs to modern ones which are more'doggy hotels'. It can seem challenging, choosing the one which is best for your petbut it is worth putting some time and effortinto checking out all your options and mak-ing sure your dog is happy and well caredfor while you are away.
Choosing a kennel
Pets
Personal recommendation is the place tostart. If you have friends you have used alocal kennels and are happy with them thenthey are the first ones to try. Your local vetsshould also be a good source of advice.
It is a good idea to visit potential kennels. The best will allow you to pop in at any timeand view the facilities. A good kennels willensure the runs are cleaned regularly andthat the dogs are happy and contented. Each dog should have an kennel with asleeping area, a feeding station and an out-door run. You should also ask if the ken-nels allows you to bring your dog'sbelongings with them. Having a familiarbed, food bowl and toys with them canmake dogs feel much more settled. Mostwill allow you to use your own dog food, which again will make your pet feel more athome, be more likely to eat and less likelyto develop diarrhoea.
Dogs are social creatures and like to knowwhat is going on around them. Kennelswith full length wire or clear perspex doorsare generally quieter places because thedogs are able to see outside the space andso feel involved. If you have more than onedog and they get one well, kenneling themtogether is a good idea so they can keepeach other company. A good boarding fa-cility will also factor in time during the dayfor staff to be able to interact with the dogs.
The hotel is booked, the flightsare sorted and the kids arebeside themselves withexcitement. You areall off on yoursummer holidays, but what about the dog?For most of us it means puttingour pets in the kennels but howdo you ensure the kennels youpick are good quality and thatyour dog will be happy?
