Kingsdale Foundation School
Distance Learning Guide for student use of
Microsoft Teams
Getting Started
From the start of the first Summer half-term, some of your remote learning will take place
on MS Teams. When lessons are not taking place on Teams, teachers will continue to set
you work to complete on SMHW.
MS Teams is accessed via your Office 365 school account. The login details will be your
school email and your school network password. Should you have any issues with logging
in, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible.
For best results, Teams should be used on a desktop or laptop. It does however work with
an iPad or a mobile device (quality is reduced on a mobile) and an app can also be
downloaded from app store.
Laptop or desktop log in
Go to the following website and login: https://www.office.com
Username: Your school email
Password: Your school network password
Mobile devices
Download the Teams app from the app store and log in using the information described
above.
When you first login in you will have the option of taking a tour.
MS 365 contains a number of different MS applications which are very useful. MS Teams
can be selected from the list at login.
Once you have selected Teams you will see all of the Teams that you have been enrolled in.
These will include your classes, your tutor group and later on, your House. Your teams will
all be created by the school. You will not be able to make your own teams on this
application.
Select teams and then the class you wish to take.
When you select your class you will see your post page
You can also view and download any files your teacher has uploaded for you
You can also set up and use your own electronic note book
Once a lesson has started you will be able to see the join button on your post page
When you join the lesson you will be able to see your teacher’s presentation, hear then and
communicate with them in writing in the chat bar.
Remember – your teacher will tell you which lesson is due to take place on Teams via a
message on SMHW. Make sure you log on in good time!
How will I know when and where my lessons are on Teams?
Lessons will take place at the time scheduled on your timetable and will last 30 minutes. For
instance, if a lesson is due to take place during Period 1 on a Monday, that lesson would
start at 8.45am on a Monday. An additional period 10 minutes at the end of the lesson is
there for the teacher to discuss any queries or questions relating to your learning.
Therefore, the total time per lesson is 40 minutes.
Not every lesson is on teams, please refer to SMHW where you will be able to see what type
of lesson (see below) is being held, where and when.
How will my lessons be organised?
Your teacher will decide how your online lesson on Teams is organised. Your lesson will
usually be one of the types below
Type one: Research/guided independent study using e learning tools/links/electronic
materials i.e. PowerPoint.
Type two: Interactive teacher led/facilitated learning – ‘The Lesson’ in teams
Type three: Workshop activity – On demand support (in teams) from the teacher
whilst you complete your tasks
Type four: Extension of your learning through electronic resources i.e. e-learning
tools (GCSE POD etc.), this is done independently
