P&C MEETING - On Monday 14th August our next P&C Meeting will be held in MRS CARPENTER’S YEAR 4 room.
Mrs Carpenter and Mrs Kemp will be providing parents with a presentation on different approaches to learning including
Project Based Learning and STEAM activities. This presentation would be of interest to all parents K-6. The P&C Meeting
will follow this presentation.
It would be wonderful to see as many parents as possible at this meeting.
STUDENT SUCCESS - Last Friday I received a lovely email from a parent from Seven Hills PS complimenting our
Boys’ Soccer teams for their sportsmanship that morning.
Seven Hills were short of players and we had three boys willingly volunteer to play for the opposition so they would not be
short of players. The boys were Riley P, Kade B and Nathan G. KLPS is very proud of the three of you. Well done boys!!!
LOST PROPERTY - To improve access to Lost Property we have placed a large box outside the office that all Lost
Property will be placed into when it is found. The box will be opened at 8.30am and locked at 3.30pm every day. Only items
that do not have a name will be placed in this box. Parents and students will be able to access the Lost Property Box at any
time throughout the day without having to ask for permission at the office.
EDUCATION WEEK
WESTPOINT PERFORMANCES – I was fortunate to be able to watch some of our Performance groups participate
at the Westpoint Education Week concert on Tuesday.
Our Signing Choir, Synergy Dance Group, Infants Choir, 3-6 Choir and our Senior Show group Dance troupe all
performed magnificently and we were very proud of their efforts. Well done KLPS!!
Thank you to all the teachers who have spent countless hours training the students to be able to perform at that level
and the parents for supporting their children by attending the concert.
OPEN DAY – It was wonderful to see so many grandparents, parents and other relatives attend our Open Day. It
was great to see so many parents visiting the classrooms, enjoying the Concert, visiting the Book Fair and having
a picnic with their children. Well done KLPS Community!!!!

YEAR 6 CAMP
Year 6 is back from our grade excursion and it was a blast! From all the fun at Questacon, to the honour of
going to Parliament House, this excursion is most definitely the best.
The excursion started off by Bus 1 paying their respects at the War Memorial and
Bus 2 seeing the Old Parliament House, where many historic agreements were
made. We were then off for a fun time at Questacon: battling robots that played air
hockey against you; experiencing what it’s like to be in an earthquake in the
earthquake room; riding down the slide called free fall, which was quite terrifying!
In the blink of an eye we were up bright and early for the snow. The Ski Tube was
an amazing experience topped off with a fun snowman competition. Sliding down snow that was at least 6 cen-
timetres thick was a huge highlight, especially if you have never seen snow before! Snowball fights are just as
fun as they sound even if you didn’t do very well, like me. After a freezing day at the snow it was time to go
back to the motel, but before we left we all had some hot food and snacks!
Finally, we were on our bus ride back, with the beautiful singers of the back of the bus singing the wheels on
the bus go round and round. The rest of the night was relaxing, watching TV in your room before bed. The day
we all dreaded but knew had to come, was at last here, the last day. It started off with a breakfast and finished
with packing up all your belongings.
Once again we were off on the bus ride to the New Parliament House,
which was most definitely something to take pride in. Bus 1 saw
paintings of all past Prime Ministers and other important people to
Parliament House. Our tour guide asked us some questions and what
we knew and told us some things he knew. The tour was very
informative and learnt even more about Australian History. We were
also able to see the House of Representatives and the Senate.
After the tour had ended, our entire grade went up to the top of
Parliament House to see the Australian flag. It was really surprising to see the size of it. From the ground it
looks like the size of a dining table, but if you think about it, you are able to see the flag from the War
Memorial. The actual size of the flag is as big as a double decker bus!
We then moved on to the National Gallery. We were on another tour but in smaller groups so we were able to
ask questions. I know that some people thought the Art was boring, but personally I loved it! Every painting
had a massive meaning behind them; they were never created just for the sake of creating them.
After a long 2 days it was time to return home. Back home to our own warm beds and to our families so we
can tell them all about the fantastic adventure we have been on. I am sure Year 6 had a fantastic time and we
will for sure remember this experience. Big thank you to the teachers who make camp possible and all the
parent helpers that came along to help out too!

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
Returning to school after a holiday is a time to start ‘afresh’.
A student commented to me that coming back to school means “it’s a new term I can start over”. I thought this
was a very positive way to return to school, because there are times when we all feel like we just want to start
over again!
For students it’s a time to set new goals for the term and work towards achieving it! Such as improve my
reading skills by reading 15 minutes each day, or make some more friends by encouraging others with some
kind words, or improve my story creation skills by writing in a journal each week!
These are just a few ideas. Parents and students can start the term with a goal/s in mind. Daily or weekly discuss
with their child how they are going in reaching their goal. This interaction between parents and children creates
discourse about the school day and also builds positive relations between you both.
In Term 3, I will commence some new programs with students called:
“Esteem Designz” with a group of Year 6 girls which helps empower girls and builds their self-esteem.
“Seasons For Growth” with a small group of students in Year 2. This program supports students who
have experienced big change or loss in their family. This is a peer support program so students can come
together and learn new skills to cope effectively with change and loss, focusing on building self-esteem,
managing feelings, problem-solving, decision –making, communication and building support networks.
In Term 3, I am also continuing with new groups of students, the “Rock and Water” program with a group of
Year 3 boys, the BRAVE program with a group of Year 4 students and also continuing two Social Skills
programs which we started in Term 2.
As we work together in our small groups towards setting goals, each student responds in their own unique way
and reaffirms that we are all wonderfully and creatively made with our own gifts and talents.
It is with much delight that I look forward to the term ahead and encourage all students to start each term afresh
with set goals in mind to work towards each day!
