Kingfisher louvres provide permanentventilation combined with weatherprotection and visual screening. Acoustic attenuation louvres are alsoavailable.

They can be used to fill openings or toform screening enclosures to all kindsof HVAC, mechanical and other plantrooms.

The louvres can provide a continuousappearance, and with a wide range ofcolour finishes form an architecturalfeature of a building. The system is veryflexible, and louvre banks can be madeto almost any practicable size or shape.

The corrosion-resistant constructionmakes them suitable for all externalinstallations including roof tops.

There is a wide range of blade designsto meet different requirements,according to the functions required:maximum air flow, weather protection,visual screening, and acoustic screening(see product selection table opposite).Matching louvre doors are also availablefor most ranges.

KW 75 HPG weather protection louvreThe KW 75 HPG high-performance louvreblade combines low airflow resistance withmaximum weather exclusion. Followingexhaustive development work andindependent testing, Kingfisher can offerone of the best-performing single-banklouvre systems on the market.

Louvres provide high rainwaterrejection combined with highairflow rate up to A2performance classification,assured by independenttesting by BSRIA. Thisrepresents a betterperformance than mostdouble-bank systems,achieved at a lower cost andwithin a smaller depth ofopening.

The registered design isaesthetically pleasing and thegutter profile avoids the cascade effect.

Designed and developed under BS EN ISO9001 which covers design management,development, manufacture and installation.

CompositionLouvre blades and mullions are extrudedaluminium grade 6063 T6 to BS EN 755-2:2008, BS EN 755-9:2008 and BS EN 515:1993.

Louvres are supplied either mounted onconcealed mullions for a continuousappearance or as individual framed panels,and can form an architectural feature of abuilding. The system is very flexible; banksand panels can be made to any practicablesize or shape.

Z-profile and S-profile blades are designed togive good protection against waterpenetration together with low resistance toairflow.

All components are aluminium for long lifewith good corrosion resistance.

ApplicationsAny application requiring permanent large-scale ventilation combined with screening,for example air inlet and exhaust forventilation or air conditioning systems, plantrooms, lift motor rooms, generators andpumping stations.

Blades clip in place and cannot be removedwithout special tools, so the system issuitable for use in publicly accessible areas.

Blanked-off panels are available to providecontinuity of appearance where required.

CompositionBlades, mullions and clips are extrudedaluminium grade 6063 T6 to BS EN 755-2:2008, BS EN 755-9:2008 and BS EN 515:1993.

Trims and flashings are either extrudedaluminium grade 6063 T6 to BS EN 755-2: 2008, BS EN 755-9: 2008 and BS EN 515: 1993 or folded aluminiumsheet, depending on installation details.Fixing cleats are stainless steel.

AccessoriesMitred corners where required, and avariety of edge trims and flashings to suitthe installation.

Bird/vermin guard (overlapped and securedto mullions): aluminium; hole size 15mm.

Insect guard: HDPE, hole size 4mm.

Size, shapeBanks can be made to any practicableshape and size, with virtually no restrictionon height or width.

Blade pitch can be varied as required,subject to minimum values shown overleaf.Increasing blade pitch will affect weatherand airflow performance. Blade angle is 45°for all types.

Maximum blade length is normally 3.0m forease of handling. For continuous louvresthe blades are butt jointed at anintermediate mullion and the blade ends areheld by a single clip to ensure correctalignment, a 2mm expansion joint isrequired.

AppearanceLouvres provide clean lines with acontinuous appearance; no fixings orsupports are visible from outside.

Standard finish: polyester powder coatingto BS 6496.Alternative finishes: natural or colouranodised AA25 to BS 3987, natural millfinish. Where anodising is specified, thealuminium will be of anodising quality.

KW 100T triple-bank louvres are externallythe same as KW 100Z single-bank, so theycan be used together in one installationwhilst maintaining a consistent appearance.

KW Louvre doorsetsLouvre doorsets match corresponding KWlouvres, which can be installed within louvrebanks giving a continuous appearance, orwithin a wall opening. The doors providepermanent ventilation combined withweather protection and visual screening.

Doors can be supplied with louvre bladesmatching all KW single and multiple-banklouvres.

Doors are outward opening, single ordouble, and are supplied complete withframe and ironmongery. All components are aluminium for long lifewith good corrosion resistance.

ApplicationsTo provide access to plant and boilerrooms, lift motor rooms, meter cupboards,pumping stations and other plantenclosures.

CompositionThe door leaf has a framing of weldedextruded aluminium hollow sections, to whichlouvre blades are clipped after installation.

The door frame comprises extrudedaluminium head, jambs and thresholdbolted together to form a complete frame.

All components are extruded aluminiumgrade 6063 T6 to BS EN 755-2:2008, BS EN 755-9:2008 and BS EN 515:1993.

AppearanceDoors provide a continuous appearancewhen installed within a KW louvre bank. A small lock area with D handle is the onlyinterruption to the line of the louvre blades.



MaintenanceClean working components by wiping witha soft cloth and applying a light machine oilas required. Check operation of the doorevery three months to ensure all fixings aretight and latches engage correctly. Somespecial ironmongery may require routinemaintenance in accordance withmanufacturer’s instructions provided.

Periodic cleaning is required to maintainappearance (this is a condition of guaranteeof finish where applicable).

BRISE SOLEIL SOLAR SHADING SYSTEM

Kingfisher Brise Soleil is an externalshading system for control of solar heatgain through glazing. Designed as acomplete system which can be installedin various configurations.

ApplicationsSuitable for offices, schools and othercommercial and public buildings, both newand refurbished.

Why use solar shading?In sunny weather, solar heat gains throughglazing can represent a substantial input ofheat to a building. Apart from the directsolar heating, re-radiated heat becomestrapped inside the building, increasing theinternal temperature even more. Ventilationrates or cooling loads must then beincreased to maintain comfortableconditions.

CompositionBlades, support arms and clips areextruded aluminium grade 6063 T6 to BS EN 755-2:2008, BS EN 755-9:2008 and BS EN 515:1993.

Blades are carried in aluminium clips, whichare factory attached to the support arms.The outer end of the arm is closed off with a welded aluminium cap; the inner end slotsover the stainless steel fixing bracket.

Size, shapeSupport arms: maximum projection1200mm, maximum spacing: 1500mmcentres.

Blade pitch: must be specified whenordering, maximum 140mm. This will givecomplete shading for the UK.

S and Z profiles are available.

AppearanceStandard finish to blades, support arms andclips: polyester powder coating to BS 6496,in any RAL colour to order.

Alternative finishes: natural or colouranodised AA25 to BS 3987, natural millfinish.

This section sets out the approach tolimiting heat gains as required byparagraph L1(a)(i) of Schedule 1 to theBuilding Regulations.

The guidance can be used todemonstrate that the building hasappropriate passive control measuresto limit solar gains.

The purpose is to limit solar gains toreasonable levels during the summerperiod, in order to reduce the need foror installed capacity of air-conditioningsystems.

Some ways of assessing theoverheating risk are given in CIBSETM37 - Design for improved shadingcontrol.

Wind loadingsMaximum wind loadings are given in thetable for support arm projection 1200mm(maximum allowable) with ten equallyspaced blades.

For fixing brackets to the structure, thetensile load resistance of anchors must be5.0kN minimum, per bolt.

Indicative installation heights are based ona site wind speed of 25m/s which covers allof the UK except NW Scotland and NWIreland, site altitude approx 60m, no shelterfrom surrounding buildings. For shelteredsites installation heights of up to 50m maybe possible; in more exposed sites lowerheights will apply.

The advice of a structural engineer shouldbe sought for guidance on the expectedloads resulting from particular buildingdesign, location and orientation.

InstallationThe fixing bracket base plate has four12mm diameter holes for fixing to the mainstructure of the building (these fixings arenot supplied).

Each support arm slots over a bracket andis fixed to it using two M10 stainless steelbolts with dome nuts. Blades are attachedto support arms by slotting into the pre-attached clips.

MaintenancePeriodic cleaning isrequired to maintainappearance; thismay be carried outwhen glazing iscleaned.

KC SCREENING LOUVRES

KC Screening louvresThe KC 120 system comprises banks oflouvre blades, designed primarily to providevisual screening at an economical cost, butnot weather protection.

The Z profile blades can be installed angledupwards or downwards according todirection of view, or double banked forscreening from any angle.

Blade spacing can be varied, and louvresmay be vertical, horizontal or inclined,according to requirements.

Louvres are mounted on concealedmullions for a continuous appearance, andcan form an architectural feature of abuilding.


ApplicationsGenerally used for screening HVAC andother plant on roofs from higher buildings orfrom low level. Blade centres can beadjusted to suit sightlines and specificrequirements.



CompositionBlades, mullions and clips are extrudedaluminium grade 6063 T6 to BS EN 755-2:2008, BS EN 755-9:2008 and BS EN 515:1993. All other components are aluminium.

Fixing cleats are stainless steel.


Size, shapeThe system is very flexible; banks can bemade to any practicable size or shape.Minimum blade pitch 100mm.

Maximum blade length is normally 3.0m forease of handling/practicality.
