Renewable energy projectsRenewable energy projects

Renewable energy projects represent a potential of 9.7 million CER, that is 60% of the total CER of Moroccan approved CDM projects.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004

Description and distributionDescription and distribution

• Wind power is for 81% of the CER (7.85 million), then Hydro with 16% (1.59 million), and solar with 3% (0.27 million).

• The projects promoters are ONE (National Office of Electricity) with 94% of the CER (9.19 million), then LAFARGE (private cement factory) with 4% (345,000) and ONEP (National Office of Drinking Water) with 2% (172,400).

• Methodology :

– Used in “Wigton wind farm in Jamaica” and submitted to CDM EB.

– New consolidated methodology ACM0002 will be used in new PDD version.

• Approach :

– Demonstrate that the project is not BAU;

– Determine the most likely scenario in absence of the project;

– Determine the avoided emissions by calculating the Projected Operating

Margin with weighted CEF of the national power plants ;

• Calculations :

– Through the crediting period, the weighted CEF moves down from 0.805

(2006) up to 0.729 (2009) and then increases to 0.777 (2015);
