Dear Parents
This has been a very busy week at King's House School and
we have more news to report on the awards front. Well
done to Luke KCS), Dominic (Westminster), Toby (KCS) and
Edward (St Paul’s) who all gained their places to their
respective senior schools through the scholarship exam
route, and particular congratulations to Luke who won an
Academic Scholarship to KCS.
I was delighted to be at the school’s sports ground on
Saturday for cricket and to see the Year 5s and 1st XIs in
action, and gaining some impressive wins. A special
mention in terms of cricket this week though must go to S
who scored 119 not out off 76 balls against Shrewsbury
House. This followed a fifty on Saturday morning! And both
the U13s and U11s are progressing well in their cup
competitions.
Our Year 4s and 5s have had their summer exams this week
and are now as I write away on their residential trips – there
are some lovely photos on the Twitter feed. Meanwhile
back at school Year 2 have been hard at work for their production.
Boneza Ball – I hope that you all saw the letter with the details of what is happening on our Boneza Ball day next week. We hope
that it will be fun, raise awareness of issues in Rwanda and some funds.
Thank you to everyone who came to the family quiz on Saturday and made it such a fun event.
A reminder that the Year 5 Exam Results will be available on the parent portal on the evening of Wednesday 22 May.

Dear Parents
It now feels as if we are racing towards
the end of the summer term, but we
have so many wonderful activities to
squeeze in before we get there!
Last Friday we took the Butterfly
children down to the JD for a Drama
workshop. They were impeccably
behaved and with the help of Peter
Pan acted out storylines with such
feeling and movement, we were
staggered at how brilliant they were. Miss Leah’s hard work has paid
off! In Art Club this week the children were set the challenge of
making a paint brush out of leaves and using it to paint a picture.
Bunches of leaves were carefully taped together and then the fun
began. They really did work and we have the paintings to prove it!
Butterfly Class have started practising their songs for their end of
term concert and have been singing with such enthusiasm. I am
sure you will begin to hear them at home. In Caterpillar Class they
have been exploring all sorts of mini-beasts. Every child has been
busily making a ladybird, expect to spot them on the walls very
soon! We are delighted that we have been able to reschedule our
Richmond Park Walk for Butterfly Class to the
Wednesday 5th
June. Thank you for all your positive response,
hopefully the weather will be kind to us this time. We are looking
forward to our Boneza Ball day next Wednesday, we have lots of Rwandan themed activities planned! Have a lovely weekend.

Dear Parents
In assembly on Monday, with the help of six boys from Year 3, we introduced the school to some playground games for
everyone to try out and enjoy during break times. There were some old favourites such as Grandma’s Footsteps and
What’s the Time Mr Wolf as well as some new ones including an alternative version of French cricket. The parachute games
have been a big hit too, particularly with the younger boys. Year 3 had their topic about World War II brought to life when
Hobgoblin Theatre visited the Junior Department on Tuesday. The boys went back in time through the drama to find out
what life was like for one family during the war. They watched as the Thompson family experienced rationing, air raids and
evacuation. The whole morning was highly interactive as the boys themselves had to get into role as the characters in the
drama. They had to pretend that the hall was a museum where they were a frozen tableaux of events in the production. It
was a hugely cross curricular morning and much enjoyed by all! Congratulations to all the boys who sang at St Mary’s as
part of the Richmond May Fair on Saturday. We were all delighted with the way they performed and it was lovely to be in
the beautifully refurbished church after all the building work that has gone on.

U11A Harrow Festival The U11A travelled up to Harrow School for
their annual 8 a side cricket festival. Held at
their impressive grounds, the boys were
outstanding all day. In the group stage the
team won their first two matches scoring an
impressive 110 and 126 in their 12 overs. The
final group game was against Caldicott who
had also won their first two matches, once
again we scored an impressive 118 and then
bowled and fielded superbly to see the boys
through to the final. Bowling first against
Northcote Lodge the boys restricted them to 68 and despite a few nervy moments towards the end King’s House
finished on 80 runs off their overs meaning they won the festival. An outstanding effort where every single boy
contributed at crucial times throughout the day. A was nominated Player of the Day by the Harrow staff – an award
that would have been very hard to pick out from all our boys!
Cricket v Shrewsbury House - All four senior teams took on Shrewsbury House on Monday afternoon
in some glorious summer sunshine. The 4th team bowled and fielded well but unfortunately fell short in their
run chase, the 3rd team batted well to get to 100 runs off their overs but could not quite restrict the Shrewsbury
House batsmen to their score, whilst the 2nd team bowled well they could not match their efforts with the bat.
The 1st team scored an impressive 160 runs off their 25 overs and backed their impressive batting display with
some good bowling to restrict Shrewsbury House to 127.

Saturday Cricket - Well done to
the U11D and U10A-D teams who played
some excellent and exciting cricket on
Saturday morning against Northcote
Lodge. Once again the boys represented
the school with pride and enjoyed a fun
morning down at the grounds. The 1stXI
were al so in action against Hall Grove in the
Surrey Cup and ran out comfortable
winners largely due to an impressive 82 run partnership between B (59*) and S (55).
S
55 off 40 balls
B
59* off 60 balls
S 100!
A special mention to S who smashed 119 not out off 76 balls
against Shrewsbury House. Off the back of an
impressive 50 on the Saturday, S produced the finest school
boy innings I have seen in my time in teaching!
He scored runs all around the ground, hitting 14 x 4s and
5 x 6s, and combined some brutal power with excellent
technique to take the game away from Shrewsbury House.
An outstanding innings S, well done!!!

Year 6 Trip to Bletchley Park

Last Thursday Year 6 went to Bletchley Park. We were greeted by our hosts, divided into groups
and taken on a tour around Bletchley Park which is a beautiful mansion. During our tour we learnt
all about the spies that arrived from Cambridge University and the act of secrecy. Most workers at
Bletchley Park were females because most of the men were at war. Next on our tour we walked to a
garage and saw the bikes that the ladies use to deliver the messages to Bletchley. We then went to
a room were we did some code cracking. First we had to decipher a message by working as a team
then we got to use an enigma machine to decipher a code. It was a great day out and really inter-
esting. By Hugo

Friends Quiz Night
Saturday saw another lovely night
at the sports ground for the 3rd
annual family quiz. Nearly 100
parents and children pitted their
brains against each-other across 10
rounds of entertaining questions.
For the first time ever a team made
up solely from pupils were
victorious, with the
‘Y8 Mr Lissaman Appreciation Society’
team winning the Trophy.
Elsewhere in the evening Felix Year 4 won ‘Heads & Tails’ and Henry in Year 6 won
‘Bruce’s play your card season right’.
A great night was had by all, and thank you to the staff at the Sports ground who
hosted us so well. Richard Bruce FoKH Treasurer

Chess Tournament
17 May 2019
The Under 11s played fiercely
competitive chess against some of the
nation's best players. Alex played
solid, methodical games with a
noteworthy draw, despite limited
material left to work with. Rafi
crushed several opponents with bold,
tactical play. Rohan played
classical King's Pawn matches with relentless determination, refusing to
concede and forcing opponents to play through long endgames. Pasha
played with a spirited, attacking style and the Nimzo-Indian defence to end
the day with a perfect 5 - 0 record. Theo destroyed one opponent with a
blinding four move checkmate and followed with more disciplined,
structured games. A superb result in a hotly contested event! Well done
boys! The under 9s romped home against a field containing some of the
country’s strongest players in a noteworthy 13th place. An amazing
achievement.
Congratulations: Hugo, Huw, Eliot, Rafe, Albert and Sebastian.

Dad’s Charity Cricket Matches - Sunday 2nd and 16th June
Now in its ninth year, the Dad’s Charity Cricket ‘triangular’ tournament is upon us,

aid of Rwanda Aid.
Following last year's defeats, KHS are 5-3 down vs OVS, and are yet to beat the
mighty THS. So the stakes are high this year and sunshine has been pre-ordered.
The first match is on Sunday 2nd June vs Tower House, followed by the traditional
Father's day fixture on Sunday 16th June vs OVS, at the Kings House grounds in
Chiswick. If you'd like to play (whatever your level of ability!)
