The following changes and/or clarifications are being made to the above referenced Contract

GENERAL CLARIFICATIONS:

There is no geotechnical report for this project known to the Owner.

The driveway and parking area are to be asphalt. A detail of the paving section is included with

this addendum (Sheet 4).

The cost for the SCADA system provided by the County's SCADA vendor shall be included in

the bid.

CHANGES TO SPECIFICATIONS:

Add Section 02380 - Ornamental Picket Fencing System, included in this addendum.

Add Section 02381 - Ornamental Picket Swing Gate, included in this addendum

CHANGES TO PLANS:

ORNAMENTAL PICKET FENCING SYSTEM

1. GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and appurtenances necessary for instal-

lation of 8-foot high (nominal) ornamental metal fencing system specified herein and

shown on the Plans.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The Contractor shall provide laborers and supervisors who are thoroughly familiar with

the type of construction involved and materials and techniques specified.

B. Manufacturer's Qualifications:

1. The ornamental picket fencing system provided under this section shall be the stand-

ard product in regular production by manufacturers whose products have proven reli-

able in similar services for at least two years.

2. The manufacturer shall supply a total ornamental picket fencing system of the design,

style, strength, and picket spacing defined herein. The system shall include all com-

ponents (i.e., pickets, rails, posts, gates, and hardware) required.

3. The ornamental picket fencing system shall conform to equivalent style and type

from the manufacturer's current literature.

C. Ornamental picket fencing system shall have a five (5) year warranty.

D. Manufacturers:

1. Master-Halco

2. Ameristar Fence Products

3. Or approved equal

1.03 SUBMITTALS

A. Manufacturer's literature describing standard items.

B. The manufacturer shall reference all standards and specifications for which the ornamen-

tal picket fencing system is fabricated.

C. Submit shop drawings showing materials, sizes, finishes, locations, attached hardware

and fittings, and details for manufactured items and fabricated metal work, including field

erection details showing cuts, copes, connections, holes, thread fasteners, and welds.

D. Indicate welds, both shop and field, by symbols conforming to AWS standards. Indicate

coatings or other protection against corrosion.

E. Setting diagrams, erection plans, templates, and directions for installation of backing

plates, anchors, and other similar items.

F. Material compliance certification with standards designated.

G. Two (2) ornamental picket fencing samples proposed for use. One to be submitted to the

Engineer and one to be submitted to the Owner.

H. The manufacturer shall indicate any additional accessories necessary for completing the

ornamental picket fencing system that is not shown on the drawings. Approval for any

additional accessories will be done by the Engineer and Owner.

1.04 PRODUCT HANDLING AND STORAGE

A. Upon receipt at the job site, all materials shall be checked to ensure that no damages oc-

curred during shipping and handling.

B. Materials shall be stored in such a manner to ensure proper ventilation and drainage, and

to protect against damage, weather, vandalism, and theft.

C. All damaged, dented, broken, or otherwise unacceptable material shall not be installed,

but shall be removed from the site and new material shall be supplied by the Contractor at

no additional expense to the Owner.

D. The Contractor shall verify the areas to receive ornamental picket fencing systems are

completed to final grade and elevations

2. PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIAL

A. Posts:

1. Posts shall be galvanized square steel tubular members in accordance with ASTM

A787 at least 2 1/2 in. square with no less than 14 gauge (0.080 in.) wall thickness,

and have a minimum yield strength of 45,000 psi.

2. All posts must be coated per Paragraph 2.01.F.

B. Rails:

1. Rails shall be galvanized steel members in accordance with ASTM A446 and a min-

imum yield strength of 45,000 psi. Rails shall be designed by manufacturer as to be

compatible with the rest of the ornamental fencing system.

2. All rails shall be coated per paragraph 2.01.F

3. Rubber grommets may be provided for every rail slot to steal the interior from mois-

ture and protect against "wind chatter".

C. Pickets:

1. Pickets shall be galvanized square steel tubular members at least ¾ in. square with no

less than a 16 gauge (0.060 in.) wall thickness, and a minimum yield strength of

45,000 psi.

2. Pickets shall have a speared top and will be spaced at least 3 ¾ in. apart (face-to-

face).

3. All pickets shall be coated per Paragraph 2.01.F.

D. Hardware:

1. All hardware shall be provided by the Contractor to ensure a complete working sys-

tem.

2. Exposed hardware shall be coated per Paragraph 2.01.F

1. The standard-style post cap shall be provided for each fence post.

2. Post caps shall be made from formed steel with a weather-tight closure.

3. The Contractor shall indicate any other accessories necessary and/or desirable for

completing the ornamental fencing system.

4. All exposed metal parts shall be coated per Paragraph 2.01.F.

F. Finishes:

1. All posts, rails, pickets, hardware, and accessories shall be protected with a G90 zinc

coating (0.90 oz. /ft2).

2. All galvanized components shall have a salt spray resistance of at least 3,500 hours in

accordance with ASTM B117 Test Method, without loss of adhesion.

3. Also, all exposed metal parts shall have a polyester coat applied by electrostatic spray

to a thickness of 2 to 4 mils, and baked at 450oF for 15 minutes to finished color of

black. Any non-metal parts shall be black in color.

3. EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION

A. The Contractor shall inspect all items immediately upon delivery to site.

B. All damaged, dented, broken, or otherwise unacceptable material shall not be installed,

but shall be removed from the site and new material shall be supplied by the Contractor at

no additional expense to Owner.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. All new installation shall be laid out by the Contractor in accordance with the construc-

tion plans and the Manufacturer's instructions. All adjustments required to accommodate

grade shall be approved by the Engineer. Contractor shall fill all low lying areas between

finished grade and the bottom of the fence with soil. The Contractor may also extend the

pickets to fill in the gap between finished grade and the bottom of the fence.

B. Space posts at 7 ft-3/4 in. maximum face-to-face, unless otherwise necessary to conform

to manufacturer's requirements.

C. Hardware used for attaching rails to fence posts shall be provided by the manufacturer.

D. Hardware used for attaching the rails to brick pillars shall be provided by the manufactur-

er. This should include utilizing a lag bolt in a lead expansion shield, drilled a minimum

of 4 in. into the pillar to secure railings to pillars.

E. Setting posts:

1. Drill holes in firm, undisturbed soil or compacted soil.

2. Holes shall have diameter 4 times greater than the nominal outside dimension of the

post, and depths approximately 6 in. deeper than the post bottom.

3. Excavate deeper as required for adequate support in soft or loose soils, and for posts

with heavy lateral loads.

4. Set post bottoms 36 in. below the surface when in firm, undisturbed soil.

5. Place concrete around post in continuous pour.

6. Trowel finish around posts and slope as to direct water away from posts.

F. Surface/wall mount post with mounting plates where indicated on drawings. Fasten with

lag bolts and shields.

G. Check each post for vertical and top alignment, and maintain in position during place-

ment and finishing operation.

H. Align fence panels between posts. Firmly attach rail brackets to posts ensuring panels

and posts remain plumb.

I. Attach hardware by means which will prevent unauthorized removal, and will allow for

smooth operation.

3.03 CLEANING AND REPAIRING

A. The Contractor shall clean the jobsite of excess materials.

B. Post hole excavations shall be scattered uniformly away from posts.

C. Contractor to replace damaged fence sections at no additional cost to the Owner.

D. Repairs shall be at the discretion of the Engineer and shall be performed in accordance

with the manufacturer's recommendations. Finish of repair shall match original finish of

fence.

2. PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIAL

A. Ornamental Picket Double Swing Gate System (8 ft. high [nom.], 12 ft. [nom. opening]):

1. Gate Frames:

a) Fabricate using galvanized steel members, with a minimum yield strength of

45,000 psi and a G90 zinc coating per ASTM A787.

b) The minimum size of the vertical uprights shall be at least 1 ¾ in. square, and a

minimum of 14 gauge (0.080 in.) wall thickness.

c) Gate frames must be coated per Section 2.01.A.10.

2. Picket Infill.

a) Steel railings, as designed by the gate manufacturer to maintain consistency with-

in the fencing system shall be punched to receive pickets, and welded inside of

gate frame.

b) Pickets shall be galvanized steel at least 1 ¾ in. square tubes with a minimum of

16 gauge (0.060 in.) wall thickness.

c) Railings and pickets must be coated per Section 2.01.A.10.

3. Bracing:

a) A diagonal adjustable length truss rod (galvanized steel) shall be provided for

each gate leaf to prevent sagging.

b) The bracing must be coated per Section 2.01.A.10.

4. Hinges:

a) Galvanized steel system structurally capable of supporting gate leaf and allowing

opening and closing without binding.

b) Non-liftoff type hinge design shall permit gate to swing 180o.

c) Gate hinges must be coated per Section 2.01.A.10.

5. Latch:

a) Provide a locking device and padlock eyes (integral parts of the latch), which re-

quire only one padlock for locking both gate leafs.

6. Gate Posts:

a) Galvanized steel square tubular members per ASTM A787, 4 in. square with a

12 gauge (0.106 in.) wall thickness and a minimum yield strength of 45,000 psi.

b) Posts shall be galvanized with a G90 zinc coating.

c) Gate posts must be coated per Section 2.01.A.10.

7. Keeper:

a) Keepers shall be provided for each gate leaf.

b) Keepers shall be galvanized with G90 zinc coating.

8. Double Gates:

a) A drop rod and gate stop pipe shall be provided to hold the inactive leaf in place.

All shall be coated per Section 2.01.A.10

9. Hardware:

a) Galvanized steel materials to suit the given ornamental swing gate system.

b) Exposed hardware shall be galvanized with G90 zinc coating and finished to col-

or of black.

10. Finishes:

a) All posts, rails, pickets, hardware, and accessories shall be protected with a G90

zinc coating (0.90 oz. /ft2).

b) All galvanized components shall have a salt spray resistance of at least 3,500

tions.

D. Install gates, plumb, level, and secure for full opening without interference.

E. Attach hardware by means which will prevent unauthorized removal.

F. Adjust hardware for smooth operations.

3.02 CLEANING AND REPAIRING
