Week 10 – 29th
March 2017 Sharing Our News
This week we have continued to reinforce our School values of being Kind,
Safe, Proud and Supportive. We have also been reviewing the concepts of
right time, right place and moving around the school in two lines.
Tell Them From Me Survey
This term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will
participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me
student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to
affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the
NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective
teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with
valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how
engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact
with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell
Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted
online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be
administered during school hours between 3rd
- 7th April to students in Years
3-6. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent
home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate,
please return the form to school by Monday 3rd
April. Copies of the form
and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-
for-parents.
Stage 3 Leadership
There is much emphasis on Leadership this week in Stage 3 with Year 6
undertaking their 009 training and Year 5 visiting Singleton Preschool. Our
students will greatly benefit from both of these opportunities.
I look forward to seeing many of you at next Monday’s P&C meeting.

King Street is an Allergy Aware School
This is a reminder for all families that some of our
students have serious reactions to products
containing nuts and fish. We ask that you please
do not send foods or containers to school that
contain nut or fish products.
This includes nutella and peanut butter spread.
Showing Positive Behaviour for Learning
Tawny congratulates the following students for
displaying our King Street Values of Kind, Safe,
Proud and Supportive in Week 9:
Don’t Miss out on the Monster Easter Raffle!
Thank you to the very generous
families who have already donated
eggs, chocolate and other items to
use as prizes for the annual P&C
Easter Egg Raffle. Without your
generosity we would not be able to offer so many
prizes. Any donations of Easter Eggs or chocolate
for our raffle will be very much appreciated.
Everyone that donates something will go in to a
special prize draw.
The raffle will be drawn on Thursday, 6th April with
the major prize winners announced at the Easter Hat
Parade the following day. All students should have
received raffle tickets to take home and there are
more available from the office.
Good luck in the draw!
Have you got your Bin Design in?
Time is running out to take part in a competition to
‘dress up’ our garbage bins, encouraging everyone
to continue using them therefore keeping our
environment litter free.
In today’s newsletter there is a template for designs
to be drawn on and there are spare copies in the
office. When doing your design please have your
spelling checked, colour it in brightly and return it to
the office when it is completed. Designs are due
back to school by the end of this term.
If you would like to submit a digital entry, download
our templates online at http://wheeliedesigns.com/

News in Sport
Cricket
On Tuesday, 28th March, King Street Public School
contested a very tight cricket match with Singleton
Public School. Abbott won the toss as captain and
decided to field first. Excellent bowling and fielding
saw SPS all out for 66 runs. (Abbott 4/15, Hayden
2/14, Kamrann 1/7, Lachlan 2/17)
Abbott showed his class with a fantastic
performance with the bat. It took a top delivery from
the SPS captain to finish Abbott’s innings on 31 runs
which included 4 boundaries.
After the final drinks break, King Street had levelled
SPS’s effort of 66 runs with two wickets to spare. On
a very close investigation into the PSSA rules, it was
noted that if we were to lose the two wickets in the
next over without scoring, Singleton Public School
would be victorious on a count back of having less
wides/extras after a tie having also played the same
amount of overs.
This lead to a very nervous umpire not to mention
both teams as play restarted. With two balls to spare
in the over, Octavian and Jamon were able to make
that final run to claim victory with 8/67, winning by 1
run and 2 wickets. (Abbott 31, Kamrann 3, Will 2,
Octavian & Jamon 1)
Many thanks to the parents/carers who helped with
transport as well as showing their support attending
the match.
Special thanks to Bill Stacy for umpiring the match,
particularly with such a tricky finish.
The boys will face Bolwarra PS in the next round.
Mr Broadley
Soccer
3T’s Tye W has had a very
successful weekend as part of the
Emerging Jets Squad. He travelled
to Coffs Harbour where the team
competed in a 2 day gala day,
finishing undefeated.
Tye scored a total of 7 goals over the weekend.
Congratulations Tye on an impressive effort!
Everyone Welcome to P&C
Next Monday evening the KSPS P&C Committee
will be meeting in the school library at 6pm. Amongst
items on the agenda is preparation for our major
fundraiser, Cracker Night, which is only a month and
a half away.
The P&C greatly value and appreciate all ideas,
feedback and enquiries. With Cracker Night coming
so quickly we would love to hear from people who
may have suggestions or who can help out on the
night. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the
meeting.
Students Benefit from Intensive Swimming
As Australians, we spend a lot of our time in and
around the water; it’s a big part of our culture. For
this reason, it’s important that our students learn
water safety and survival skills, so that they can
continue to enjoy aquatic activities. To help achieve
this goal, our school offers the Department of
Education (DoE) School Swimming and Water
Safety Program. This is a Government-funded
program where students only need to meet pool
entry and transport costs. Australia Post is a proud
sponsor of the School Swimming and Water Safety
Program also.
Thank you to Ms MacLackland and Mrs Griffiths for
their organisation of this Intensive Swimming
Scheme which we have offered to some of our
Stage 2 students. Students will be travelling to the
pool for these lessons each day until next Thursday.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn
this very valuable life skill from the trained
instructors at the YMCA.
We know we will have some very proud students
when they receive their Certificate of Completion
next week.

Join us for Easter Fun
Next Friday, 7th April, we would like to invite all
families and friends to join us for our Easter Hat
Parade at 12pm, followed by our Pedlar’s Parade.
Our infants students will be making Easter Hats in
class, but feel free to be creative at home if you
would like to!
The Pedlar’s Parade is an opportunity for our
Primary students to make or bring in something from
home to sell in a special ‘market’ environment we
will set up in the Sports Cola. Over the years we
have had students sell items such as cakes, lollies,
drinks, bookmarks, hair ties and drink holders just to
name a few. Be as inventive as you like!
All students and their families are invited to shop at
the Pedlar’s Parade. Remember to bring lots of
small change and enjoy the day. All money raised is
donated to Stewart House. Each year 1,800 public
school children in need come to Stewart House from
many parts of NSW and the ACT. During their stay,
children are provided with optometric, dental and
medical treatment as well as emotional support. This
is balanced with health and educational programs
and out of school activities to boost their self-esteem
and to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Thank you everyone for helping us to support this
very worthwhile facility.
School Banking Day is Thursday
Remember, Thursday is school banking
day. Thank you to our volunteers and to
everyone who supports the School Banking
Program at our school.
Wellbeing of our Students Valued
Please be aware that we have two immune-
suppressed students at our school. If your child
develops a contagious disease, please let the school
know ASAP so we can act accordingly.
Changes to Assemblies this Week
This week’s Primary Assembly has been postponed
due to the Year 6 009 Training. It will now be held
NEXT WEDNESDAY, 5TH APRIL and will be hosted
by 3T.
The infants assembly will be held as normal this
Friday at 12pm in the hall. It will be hosted by the
infants Parliamentarians.
The Early Action for Success team is looking for
donations to support K-2 classes to set up ‘Learning
Centres’. Learning Centres provide students with an
authentic purpose for writing such as an office, a
restaurant, a science centre for investigation and a
post office. Mr Burgess’s creation of a grocery store
and post office in K/1B is an excellent example.
We are looking for donations such as interesting
writing material in new/good condition. Items we
can use include unused greeting cards, note paper,
postcards, note pads of any size/colour/shape, or
envelopes. We are also looking for old telephones
(push button or dial ones), cash registers,
typewriters, toy kitchens, plastic food and plastic
cooking utensils.
If you have anything that students can use to write
on that is in good condition and you no long use or
need, we would appreciate your donation. Items can
be delivered to the Early Action for Success room
which is in the Kindergarten building, or to the office.
We are not asking you to buy these items, but if you
wish to get rid of them we would appreciate them. If
you have something at home and are unsure
whether they would be suitable, please do not
hesitate to speak to either Wendy Tan or Michele
Keith.
Opportunity to Receive Newsletter by Email
We would like to offer families once again the
opportunity to receive the weekly newsletter by
email.
If you would like to receive a digital copy of the
newsletter please let our office staff know and we
will add you to our distribution list.

Students Challenged in Breakout Sessions
Our Stage 2 and 3 Extension Groups are having challenging
sessions with Ms Garven in our Collaboration Space. Ms
Garven enjoys watching the student’s use their skills to
work their way through some puzzling clues. They
collaborate extremely well together and it is fantastic to
watch the excitement on their faces when they have a
‘breakout’ moment!
