Message: There was a young man (Saul) whom God had Samuelanoint to be the King over the people of Israel. One day, God toldKing Saul to do something that He did not want to do. So theKing thinking his plan was better decided NOT to listen to God.
Instead, he did things his own way; as a result of hisdisobedience, God sent Samuel to him to let him know that thekingdom would be away from him. This made King Saul veryangry; therefore, he tried to hurt the new King God hadappointed who did not deserve this kind of treatment.
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating of the forbiddenfruit in the garden (show an apple), they were sent away fromthis wonderful place to find a new home. Because of theirdisobedience, God sent them away from their beautiful home.
King Jesus is displeased with disobedience.
Have your parents ever told you to do something, and you failed
to do it? Maybe you forgot, or simply did not want to it. Possibly
you thought it was unfair of them to ask you to do such a thing.
Has your teacher ever told you to do your homework a certain
way, and you thought your way was better and decided not to
follow their directions. You may have been thinking that your
teacher would not notice, but they did.
If your teacher gave you a lower grade because of it, did you get
angry and say that was unfair - grumbling about it?
Gods Word says it is better to obey than to sacrifice. When we
are assigned homework or a chore at home, if we spend a lot of
time doing something else rather than what we were asked, that
is disobedience. If your mom said to clean the bathroom, and
because you did not like that job you did the dishes instead, that
is not obedience. Let us be obedient and do what we are asked
to do the first time. That way, we will please our parents,
teaches, and most of all King Jesus.

1. Why is it important to obey those who watch over us?
2. What should you do if someone tries to get us to disobey?
3. What does King Jesus say about being obedient?
4. Where can we find help if we are having trouble being
obedient?
Memory Verse
Lets all say the memory verse together.
To obey is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22).
Look at the word obey To obey is to do as you are told. When
we are obedient we follow the leader whether it be our teacher,
parents, or any other adult in authority over us. When they asks
us to do something we act upon their request and comply. Look
at the word Sacrifice. To sacrifice is to forfeit. That means to let
go or surrender our way to what someone else wants or asks us
to do. It is not easy to always obey and sacrifice, but King Jesus
will be please when we comply with His Word. Remember it is
always best to obey. Lets say our verse again together. This
time, each person says one word and we will build the verseperson by person. We will all say the reference together. Ready?
Close in prayer
Dear God in heaven, thank you for all our children here. We love
them, and know that King Jesus loves them more. Help us to
learn from this lesson today that our obedience is more important
than all the good things that we can do on our own. Help us to be
quick to obey you, and those in authority over us. Give each childa good week at school and at home, and help them to obey in all
things. In Jesus name, Amen.
