• 1970s• Improvements were first discussed

• Late 1980s – 1995• Proposed widening King St. to 6 lanes with a grade-

separated interchange at Beauregard St.• Project put on hold due to public opposition to

interchange alternative• 1999 – 2003

• Proposed widening King St. to 6 lanes • At-grade intersection improvements at Beauregard St. • 12-ft. lanes with bike lanes between Beauregard St.

and 28th St.

• 2005 • Project design begins• 4 lane section remains• Additional turn lane in each direction on King Street• Medians on King Street and North Beauregard Street• Ten foot shared use path on portions of King Street

Major Considerations

• Impacts to Ingress and Egress• Signal is planned on North Beauregard Street at

Branch Avenue• U-turns will be allowed at signalized intersections

• Limited Impacts to Parking • Parking accommodations will be assessed individually

during the right of way process

Project Objectives & Benefits

• Promote safety for pedestrians and motorists• Add off-street shared-use paths and upgrade sidewalks• Add 6-ft. landscaped buffers between street and sidewalks• Eliminate slip lanes• Install pedestrian signals

• Increase capacity• Add additional eastbound and westbound left-turn lanes on

King Street• Add raised medians to prevent mid block left turns

• Improve operational efficiency• Upgrade signals• Optimize and coordinate signal timing
