minutes and to London Paddington, approximately 45. The

area is well-served by buses to Didcot, Oxford, Abingdon,

and other towns and villages, while for drivers the

development’s location close to the A338 brings the the M4

and M40 within easy reach.

There are several schools less than a mile away, including

Stockham Primary and King Alfred’s Community and Sports

College. The area is also served by pre-schools.

Award-winning town centre

Winner of The Great British High Street award in 2014,

King Alfred’s Place, Wantage - stylish 2, 3 & 4 bedroom homes in

King Alfred’s Place offers 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes off

Denchworth Road / Whittington Crescent, Wantage, where

open farmland nudges the town centre. This prime commuter

location in the Vale of the White Horse promises a perfect

work-life balance that can be more readily achieved with a

low-maintenance, brand new home at King Alfred’s Place.

The town centre is approximately 3 miles away, while Didcot

Parkway Station, about 10 miles distant, offers a rail service to

the university city of Oxford (less than 20 miles away) taking

about 19 minutes. The journey to Reading takes about 14

a classic Oxfordshire market town

Wantage is a small market town with many attractions. Its

charming market place, cobbled streets, enticing alleyways,

character buildings, and wealth of independent shops and

eateries, as well as branches of familiar multiples, secured its

success. Wantage is certainly a ‘foodie’ heaven, with Waitrose

and Sainsbury’s, a twice weekly market and monthly farmers’

market.

The birthplace of King Alfred the Great, Wantage appears to

have been occupied since the Bronze Age, flints having been

found in the area together with Roman and Medieval pottery.

Letcombe BrookMarket Square

If you are a walker, you will be spoilt for choice, from a stroll

along the tranquil Letcombe Brook Discover Trail (a globally

rare chalk stream) to enjoying a stretch of the Ridgeway, an 87-

mile long route used since prehistoric times and offering views

of heritage sites such as the famous Uffington White Horse and

castle, and Dragon Hill.

Beyond the town, there are several pretty villages to explore

and in the slightly wider area, a number of National Trust

properties. Nearby Didcot has a railway museum, as well as a

cinema and arts centre.

Downland Museum, and The Sack House on the canal, trace

its history. The town also has literary connections to Thomas

Hardy and to Sir John Betjeman, and has a lovely green space

with sculptures named after the latter. The community comes

together for several enjoyable events each year, including a

carnival, Dickens Evening and Heritage Day.

Wantage Leisure Centre, on the site of King Alfred School,

caters for all ages and levels of fitness, with a 25 metre

swimming pool, multi-sports facilities, various classes and a

sauna and steam room.

Abbey New Homes is a subsidiary of Abbey plc whose

principal activities are residential housing development in the

UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic.

For two generations, the sales sign in front of our Abbey New

Homes developments has become a familiar sight in the South

East of England. With many thousands of homes and satisfied

customers to our credit, we continue to offer ‘Beautiful Homes,

Attractively Priced’.

As a responsible developer we endeavour to provide

information that portrays as accurate a picture as possible of

your future home and we would like to point out the following:

Whilst every care is taken to ensure accuracy of all published

material, we reserve the right to amend or improve the

specification, materials, floor layouts and site plans. Any

alteration will be clearly shown on a separate sales information

sheet available in the site sales office. Please note that interior

images shown in this particular brochure are indicative only

Abbey

and not taken from Abbey Developments interiors. The

landscaping shown on the site layout is indicative of a matured

development and, as with all new developments, is subject to

approval by the Local Authority. The artist has also tried to give

some indication of how extra planting could be used to

enhance the appearance of your home. As we try to provide

as much variety as possible, the configuration of homes,

garage positions, brick colours, windows, external treatments

and levels can vary from plot to plot. We can therefore only

give typical illustrations.

Thank you for visiting King

Alfred’s Place. If you require

any further information please

refer to the site sales

representatives who will be

happy to help you choose a

house of which to be proud.
