Although we have only four days of school next week they are busy days. On Tuesday, there will be a band and chorus concert at 1:45 p.m. Mrs. Rogers and the musicians have been working really hard during their lessons and they have made great growth this year. Wednesday, the fifth grade heads to Damariscotta Lake State Park to celebrate their completion of the D.A.R.E. program. On Thursday, second and fourth grades are going on a field trip to the Maine State Museum in Augusta. This is one of my favorite trips because the students get a chance to experience the uniqueness of Maine’s history and culture. As we get into warmer weather. I want to remind everyone of our student dress code as outlined in our handbook: “Clothing shall be neat and clean, and appropriate for an educational setting. Revealing apparel or torn/ripped apparel (including but not limited to halter tops, tube tops, tops with spaghetti straps, and very short skirts and shorts) is not allowed. We use a two finger width rule for tank top straps and other thin strapped tops. Footwear - “We strongly discourage flip-flops and high heel shoes for safety on the stairs and the playground.” If students wear flip flops to class, we ask that they bring a change of shoes for recess and on P.E. days. Any child having their 5th birthday on or before October 15th 2011 is eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall. Please call Miller School at 832-2103 or stop by the office to register your child.

The Principal’s Post I can’t believe it is already Memorial Day weekend! This school year is flying by way too fast.  Although we have only four days of school next week they are busy days. On Tuesday, there will be a band and chorus concert at 1:45 p.m. Mrs. Rogers and the musicians have been working really hard during their lessons and they have made great growth this year. The Talent Show is coming! On Tuesday June 4th Union Elementary will be holding their 3rd Annual Talent Show.  This is an informal performance of songs, dances, even jokes done by students in grades 2 through 6.  The show starts at 1:45 and the length depends on the amount of acts.  Students will have selected a performance piece and performed it for Mrs. Rogers and then rehearsed it the weeks leading up to the show. The show is mostly for the students but parents are welcome to come and watch their students strut their stuff!

UES Band & Chorus ConcertTuesday, May 28th @ 1:45 p.m.

The band and chorus will be performing once more this year to show off all the hard work they have done since December! Both the chorus and the band will be performing three songs. We hope to see you there to celebrate our young musicians.

Pre K and Kindergarten Registration for School Year 2019-2020

If your child will be four on or before October 15, 2019, they are eligible to attend Pre-K. If your child will be five on or before October 15, 2019 they are eligible to attend Kindergarten.

Registration paper work is now available at Union Elementary School between the hours of 8-4. Please fill out and return paperwork ASAP. Please contact the school at 785-4330 if you are unable to come in to get the registration paperwork.

Pre K and Kindergarten Screenings will be scheduled for the first week of September.

This year negative student meal balances will not be cleared from student accounts. All negative balances will roll over to the following school year. In addition, we will not be turning off the negative balance messenger system during Summer vacation. So, please make sure your child's negative meal balances are paid in full before June 18th. If you would like to discuss your child's account balance or set up a payment arrangement, please call Storm Hendrickson at 785-2277 ext. 241 Thank you!

2019 UES Student Art Exhibit@ the Vose Library until June 13th

The Vose Library hours are:! ! Tuesday ! 10-8! ! Wednesday! 10-6! ! Friday ! 10-6! ! Saturday ! 9-12 Artwork from each student will be on display representing a variety of mediums, styles, and techniques that portray the concepts students have covered in their art classes this year.  The exhibit will be on display until June 13th.

The Annual Vose Library Plant Sale will be held at the Union Common (located in the center of the main village) in Union, Maine on Saturday, June 1 from 8am- 1pm. This popular rain-or-shine sale features hundreds of high-quality perennials, herbs, vegetable seedlings and shrubs, and it offers an excellent opportunity to stock up on well-adapted and reasonably-priced plants for your gardens. Plants are categorically organized, and experienced gardeners will be on hand to offer advice and help with plant selection. Wagons are available for use to move plants to your vehicle. As always, the plant sale is complemented by our famous Bake Sale, featuring delicious treats prepared by Vose Library volunteers. All proceeds benefit the Vose Library. UES PTC Spring Raffle

Thank you to Diane and Anna Possee for purchasing and setting up the final raffle of this school year to benefit the PTC. They have gone above and beyond once again! They even ran out of room on the display and had to put baskets in the display case. Tickets are .25 each or 5 for $1. The drawing for the raffle will be on June 6th.

Thank you to Mrs. Daigle for decorating the display case for spring! It looks beautiful!!

Envelopes from Lifetouch were sent home with students who have not returned or paid for their spring picture packets. You can return payment to school in the envelope provided or pay online at mylifetouch.com. The total amount for the packet is $46. UES will qualify to win a bike if all pictures are paid for or returned. That bike would be raffled off to a student here at school.

IN  REGARDS  TO  USE  OF  SUNSCREEN  AND/OR  INSECT  REPELLENT

         It   is   the   intent   of   RSU  40  schools  to  protect   our  children   from   the  harmful   rays   of   the   sun   as   well   as   the   irritation   of   insects.     Both  sunscreen   and  insect   repellent   contain   chemical   compounds   that   may  be   unsafe   for  children   to  handle.    Therefore,  we  need  to  be   very  careful  that   these   products   are   not   available   to   children   without   adult  supervision.     In   order   to   provide   for   the   safe   application   of   these  products,  please  note  the  following:

• Apply  a   long   acting   sunscreen   and/or   insect   repellent   to   your  child  prior  to  coming  to  school.    

• Consider  using  clothing  with  sunscreen  properties.• If   you   are   considering   providing   sunscreen   or   insect   repellent   for  your  child  for  outdoor  activities,  please  note:

1. A   parent   will   need   to  submit   written  permission   listing   the  product  and  when  to  apply.

2. We   can   accept   only   fragrance-­‐free   lotions,   wipes   and  creams.  Please  do  not  send  sprays  or  aerosols.

3. To   ensure   that   those   products   labeled   “Keep   out   of   the  reach   of   children”   arrive   at   the   school   in   a   safe   manner,  products  need  to  be  brought  to  the  school  by  an  adult.

• Sunscreen   and   insect   repellent   will   be   kept   in   the   Health   OfNice   as  well  as  a  record  of  each  application  by  an  adult.

• At   the   close   of  the   school  year   products   should  be   picked  up  by  an  adult.
