Last Friday, UES held an awards assembly to acknowledge the academic successes of students. Teachers recognized students for their hard work in the content areas such as reading, writing, math, and science. I’m so proud of the learning that students have demonstrated in these areas; they have been working really hard to grow as learners. While the academic recognition is important my favorite awards are the ones that recognize the effort and citizenship of the students. I like these awards because they show students that perseverance and kindness are also an important part of school. It was great to see the pride on the students’ faces as they heard their name being called and the excitement for their friends being recognized. Keep up the great work UES students! www.facebook.com/unionelementaryschoolinfo DECEMBER 14, 2018 Breakfast Menu for week of 12/17/18 Monday- Assorted cereal, whole grain graham cracker, fresh fruit, low-fat white milk Tuesday- Pancakes, fresh fruit, low-fat white milk Wednesday- Blueberry muffin, 100% fruit juice, low-fat white milk Thursday- Whole grain Poptart or cereal bar, 100% juice or fruit, low-fat white milk Friday- Assorted cereal, whole grain graham cracker, fresh fruit, low-fat white milk Students recognized for positive behaviors!! Donations for Pope Memorial Humane Society

3rd graders are doing their annual compassion project of collecting donations for the Pope Memorial Humane Society. We are collecting items such as old blankets, food, office supplies, and collars and leashes. There are collection boxes in the school lobby as well as outside the 3rd grade classroom door. We're collecting these donations until December 21st. Thank you for your consideration! -UES 3rd Graders

The RSU 40 Food Service Program serves breakfast in all seven schools. Every day students can have a choice of a whole grain, reduced sugar cereal or another item that is offered like muffins, pancakes, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast pizza. Students can also take a milk and fruit or juice. All grain items are whole grain. Items offered change daily. Students who receive a lunch at no cost or a reduced lunch may take a breakfast at no cost. Students who pay full price for a lunch may take a breakfast for $1.50 in grades pre-K to 8 and $2.00 in grades 9-12.

A great way to keep track of your child's meal transactions or balance is to set up an account with Myschoolbucks. It does not cost anything to set up an account. For more information please call: Storm Hendrickson, Food Service Director, at 785-2277 ext. 241 or email [email protected]

Author Presentation for grades 3, 4 & 5 at the Vose Library

In January, our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades will have the wonderful opportunity to visit the Vose Library and listen to author Matt Tavares speak. Students are able to purchase books by Mr. Tavares ahead of time, and those books will be here for his visit. He will sign and personalize the books. If you would like to purchase books to have signed by the author please send in the order form that was sent home with students in grades 3, 4, and 5 last week. A few of his books are pictured above. Prices reflect a 40% discount. Checks can be made out to Union Elementary School. Please return forms by Monday, December 17, 2018. Thank you!
