I can’t begin to tell you how much I am enjoying your children! They amaze me each day with their energy and enthusiasm. They have most of the routines mastered and are always getting complemented on their behavior. They are also busy making new friends. Have you heard about our “Hello” song? Perhaps you’ve seen your child “boogy on down” or “give a bump?” By the way, did your child mention the Friendship Salad we made last week? We added peaches to represent the kind kids in our room, pears for the hard workers, strawberries for the kids who share, marshmallows for the kind words being spoken, and yogurt for the happiness we feel at school. No one wanted to add the rotten banana! Ask your child what that represents. Did you hear who came to visit today? A special superhero visited our class named Zero the Hero!! Remember he’s a puppet but the real Zero the Hero will be flying in on our 100 th day! Shhhbe sure not to tell your child who it is! Our puppet comes by every 10 days to help us as we count our way to 100. He brought along a special zero shaped snack...be sure to ask your child what it was.

Celebrating our th day of school with Zero the Hero Hello Parents! We had another fantastic week! I can’t begin to tell you how much I am enjoying your children! Did you hear who came to visit today? A special superhero visited our class named Zero the Hero!! Remember he’s a puppet but the real Zero the Hero will be flying in on our 100th day! We had a lot of fun with buttons this week in math! We worked on the concept of sorting. The kids loved my button collection and found some amazing ways to sort. We used the SMART Board to create Venn diagrams because some buttons shared a few attributes.

The fun continues each day with either our sound stars or our magic sound sparkles. Has your child come home with a sparkling forehead? The kids tell me how they can feel the sparkles making them smarter! | Too cute! What fun we are having with our phonics dance! So far,

we have learned 5 of the letters and letter sounds: Mm, Pp, Rr, Ss and Tt (these are our ]letters) This week, we learned a new one: Pp! Please have your child teach you the chants to help review the letters and sounds.

Next week we will begin our new theme in reading (called I am Special). We will be working on the sounds of Mm and Ss. Please help your child practice the sounds that each letter makes (Mm is our “mean monster” letter and Ss is our “I am smart school” letter). We also practice writing each letter. To assist the children with forming the letters correctly, we use handwriting paper with three special lines. The kids have been working on pre-writing skills by learning the basic stokes for the past two weeks. You’ve seen them coming home as we completed them. Included are punch out shapes. They can be used as puzzle pieces to make the letters and numbers. For instance, two long slant lines, one short horizontal line make an “A.” Keep them in a ziploc bag or plastic container for practice. It’s really important to help your child with handwriting at home. ___Mm Ss ]Have your child tell you

check his/her folder when he/she arrives at school. It is very helpful to tell your child if there is something inside to be placed in our mailbox. Also, if there is something in your child’s backpack to give me (supplies, snack etc.) let your child know to help remind him/her to get it out.
