Phonemic Awareness:• The ability to differentiate and manipulate the

sounds in words (rhyming, blending & segmenting)

• The ability to identify onsets (beginning sounds of words), final, and middle phonemes (sounds)

Phonics - Writing• Identifying upper and lower case letters• Learning to associate the letters with their

sounds• Writing the letters when "sounding-out“ words

Guided Reading Instruction Reading from leveled books, developing sight word vocabulary, learning to track print (left to right), matching the spoken word to the written word (one to one correspondence), develop strategies to decode unfamiliar words, comprehension of main idea, identifying the setting, main characters, and story sequence.
