Developmental Data Collection for Children Entering Kindergarten Structured observation tool completed by

kindergarten teachers. Not a diagnostic tool, and not a standardized test. Snapshot only.

indicators across five developmental skill areas: Social Interpersonal (3 indicators) Language Comprehension and Expression (3

indicators) Cognitive Competence (2 indicators) Math skills (3 indicators) Literacy Skills (4 indicators)

Summary Comments: KEDP 2013 2013 KEDP dataset included 77% of enrolled K-children &

participation by 11 of 12 public schools with K-programs. Overall, data collected at mean of 2.2 months of K-

experience. Overall, 54% of children entering kindergarten in fall 2013

scored “ready for school” based on the KEDP. Math and Literacy skills remained strengths, while social

interpersonal, language comprehension and expression, and cognitive skills lagged in readiness.

Age and Pre-K experience prior to entering kindergarten were significant factors in school readiness based on the KEDP.

Other factors such as a child’s health status, ease in transitioning to kindergarten, family’s economic status, and parent’s education may also potentially impact readiness.
