Kindergarten Assessments

Kindergarten assessments are handled a little differently than assessments for than other grades. Kindergarten teachers still receive a test booklet, but instead of receiving a test booklet for each of their students, they receive one test booklet for their class. The test booklet is designed as a flipbook; therefore, it is formatted differently than other test booklets.

Additionally, instead of generating answer sheets for students, grading sheets are generated. Like the answer sheet, the grading sheet is personalized for each student. The teacher, not the student, will be marking the grading sheet. If desired, teachers may enter assessment scores directly into Galileo using the Score Tests page.

For districts/charter schools that utilize the Early Literacy Benchmark Assessment Series (EL-BAS) please refer to the Early Literacy Benchmark Assessment Series documentation for directions.

Steps for Administering a Kindergarten Assessment

1. Verify your Galileo Class Roster to ensure that all students are listed.

2. Schedule the assessment following your district’s protocol.

3. If offline testing make sure the scanner is hooked to the computer and the Scanline application is downloaded onto the computer you will be using to scan the grading sheets.

4. Print the assessment/flipbook directly from Galileo.

5. (optional) Print the grading sheets directly from Galileo using an ATI-supported scanner and compatible printer. (Refer to the System Requirements page http://ati-online.com/galileoK12/K12Training System.html for supported scanners and system requirements.)

6. Assemble the flipbooks. Only one set must be provided for each class. Teachers will use the flipbook with all students.

7. Administer the assessment according to district protocol.

8. Collect the flipbooks and, if used, the grading sheets.

9. Scan the completed grading sheets into the computer with Scanline or enter scores directly into Galileo.

10.Test scores are immediately available for analysis.

Test Booklets

Printing Tips

• You may print a test without selecting students or scheduling the test.

• Kindergarten teachers receive a test booklet, but instead of receiving a test booklet for each of their students, they receive one test booklet for their class.

• The test booklet is designed as a flipbook; therefore, it is formatted differently than other test booklets. The instruction page prints out on its own page. The booklet needs to be copied back-to-back, thus creating the flipbook.

• In order to print a test booklet, the user must have “Write” or “Read Only” permission level to the test library. Class-level users with “Results Only” permission level to the assignment/test library cannot access the assessment test questions, thus cannot generate a test booklet. Instructional Effectiveness (IE) assessments should have the “Results Only” library permission level.

Printing Steps

1. When you first log in, click on the Assessment tab in the red menu bar at the top of the page.

2. Click on the Print Test Materials link under Printing in the gray menu bar at the top of your screen.

3. Click on the Print Test Booklet link.

4. Use the down arrow on the Class drop-down menu to select the class for which you wish to print an assessment. As a class-level user your class will automatically appear in this drop-down box.

5. Use the down arrow on the Library drop-down menu to select the library from which you wish to print an assessment. The Kindergarten grade level is 00.

6. Use the down arrow on the Test drop-down menu to select the assessment you wish to print.

7. Click on the Print/Preview button.

Schedule Test

Scheduling Tips

• In order to schedule a test, the user must have “Write” or “Read Only” permission level to the test library. Class-level users with “Results Only” permission level to the assignment/test library cannot schedule the assessment. Instructional Effectiveness (IE) assessments should have the “Results Only” library permission level.

• In order to print grading sheets the test must have been scheduled.

Edit a Test Schedule

In order to edit a test schedule, you must have Read Only or Write access to the test library. Assignments/Tests Library with a Results Only permission level provides all the specified schools, classes and/or users restricted access to the test; users will not be able to schedule/reschedule and/or view the test questions and they are restricted on report details.

If a test results have not yet been recorded on a student you may edit the date, time, posting instructions, or password. If test results have been recorded you will be notified at the top of the screen that you may only edit the posting of test scores. If bubble sheets have been generated for this scheduled test, a note appears at the top of the page indicating such; the scheduled test cannot be deleted.

To edit a test that you scheduled follow steps listed steps in the View a Test Schedule section, page 6, and then:

5. On the Dashboard’s Recent Events section or on the Class Calendar page click on the link of the test you wish to view, edit or delete.

If you ever need to delete a test schedule you may do so by following the steps in the View a Test Schedule section, page 6, and then by following the directions listed below.

Please note, you cannot delete a scheduled test once the test results have been recorded for students or you did not schedule the test. If bubble sheets have been generated for this scheduled test, a note appears at the top of the page indicating such; the scheduled test cannot be deleted. Additionally, you must have Read Only or Write access to the test library. Assignments/Tests Library with a Results Only permission level provides all the specified schools, classes and/or users restricted access to the test; users will not be able to modify (e.g. delete) the test schedule and/or view the test questions and they are restricted on report details.

8. Click on the Delete button. You will receive a pop-up warning that says, "Delete Schedule? You will not be able to recover the deleted schedule. Any answer sheets printed with this schedule will be unusable."

Grading Sheets

If you do not want to enter student responses directly into Galileo, while you administer the assessment to the students, you may print grading sheets. (Directions for data entry of student scores are found in the View and Score a Test section, page 13.)

Please note, grading sheets are not supported with use of the Hi-Speed Scanline.

Printing Tips

• It is important that the class roster is updated before grading sheets are printed. This is because the grading sheets automatically include the name of each student and their class along with a unique student/class identification bar code.

• In order to print grading sheets the test must be scheduled.

• In order to schedule a test, the user must have “Write” or “Read Only” permission level to the test library. Class-level users with “Results Only” permission level to the assignment/test library cannot schedule the assessment. Instructional Effectiveness (IE) assessments should have the “Results Only” library permission level.

• Use the ATI-supported scanner and compatible printer to print grading sheets if you intend to scan them. (Refer to the System Requirements page http://ati-online.com/galileoK12/K12TrainingSystem.html for supported scanners and system requirements.)

• If you will scan the grading sheets, print a sample grading sheet to check the quality and layout before printing grading sheets for all students.

Testing Scanner

Before generating grading sheets for all the students, it is important that you print one sheet out to verify that the key elements are printed correctly and that it will scan the answers correctly. Grading sheets are not supported with use of the Hi-Speed Scanline. Plain-paper Scanline must be used for grading sheets.

1. When you first log in, click on the Assessment tab in the red menu bar at the top of the page.
