The reason that I share this story with you is that so many organizations that refuse to change are suffering the same fate as Kodak. We all know that there have been terrific declines in civic organizations in our country - clubs and organizations that used to meet on a weekly basis in town/cities across the USA have simply disappeared. Here at Kimball Memorial, we are fortunate that we are seeing good and steady growth in many areas: Membership, attendance, stewardship, etc. And to be sure, some ministries are adapting to new realities of time commitments, work responsibilities, changing family lives, etc. Our stewardship theme for this new year speaks of our future...and growing into that future with both faith (knowing that God's got this!) and grace (we have freedom to try new and different ways of proclaiming the Gospel...to new people!) In 2020, we hope that our congregation will be striving for new and exciting ways to proclaim the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How might this look? Perhaps new ministries with the housing and businesses that are growing up at our front door. Perhaps with new ways of making our worship available to more people-online in social media venues. Perhaps new opportunities to reach out to people who are closest to us - in our pre-school or in our Youth Group or in Joy Fellowship. It is a challenging time...but an EXCITING time...to be in this part of our State. We'll keep you posted on new things coming our way...and we're always open to your ideas about new ways to do ministry in this fast-paced, fast-changing world. FROM THE PASTOR Growing into our Future with Faith and Grace

Throughout most of my life, the Eastman Kodak Company was one of the strongest businesses in the world. They had a unique product, and they owned a huge share of the market for cameras and film. It

was one of those companies that you thought would always be present - it truly was a household name. Last year I read an article about how Kodak almost went under as a company because it refused to look around at the quickly changing world...and change with it! The company actually believed that digital photography was just a phase (even though it was one of their researchers who had invented and developed it!). The company firmly believed that people would eventually come back to "real" cameras that used "real" film. That attitude nearly destroyed the company...and led them to bankruptcy in 2012. They have since reorganized and refocused the company toward the future - but they are no longer the household name that they once were. The reason that I share this story with you is that so many organizations that refuse to change are suffering the same fate as Kodak. We all know that there have been terrific declines in civic organizations in our country - clubs and organizations that used to meet on a weekly basis in town/cities across the USA have simply disappeared. Many churches have suffered a similar fate. The changing world is, of course, partly to blame - but organizations MUST change with the times...we cannot expect that continuing to do things as we have always done them simply because "we've always done things this way" will work in our world. If you would like to become more involved volunteering at the school, or supporting one of the events, reach out to Leigh Glass, Fran/Tim Patterson, or Melissa Little.

We have gotten requests from some of our members, and so our parking committee has added four new spaces for handicapped parking. Please respect these spaces as you would any other handicapped parking space - use only if you have a handicapped tag and need the closer space to comfortably come into the building. We are fortunate in that we have ample parking at our church - much of it close to

doors and elevators. Thank you! OUR SINCERE THANKS to Nancy Demeny for 8 years of service as our Treasurer. Nancy will be retiring

from this position with the close of 2019 - although she is helping with the transition to our new Treasurer. Nancy has served faithfully and devotedly...and we are grateful that we will continue to have her gifts/talents with us in our congregation. Our new Treasurer is Sharon Brothers, who begins her tenure in this new year. Please let both of these dear members know how much we appreciate the time, energy, and expertise they give to our church. Carver Corner, A Year in Review This year Kimball continued to support

the Carver Elementary Ministry in a big way for the second

year in a row! We started the year with the goal of collecting 3-4 books for

each student and surpassed that goal enough to send every child home for the summer with

5 books each-THAT’S A LOT OF BOOKS! We would like to collect books again in an effort to help keep books in every child’s

home!

♦ We will begin collecting

♦ Books in January to send home in May with students.

♦ We provided an ice cream treat for teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

♦ In June, we were able to send 6 children to camp at Lutheridge. This was up from last year, and we are hoping that we will increase that number each year. We will always accept donations throughout the year.

♦ In August, our youth cleaned out a garden and provided a Welcome Back breakfast for the staff at Kimball. It was a great time of fellowship, and gave teachers a nice breakfast before their Open House that afternoon.

♦ In October we hosted a Spooky Soup Lunch for the staff at Carver. October is a busy and difficult time for teachers and this was a nice pick me up for them. The teachers at Carver work so hard for the students!

♦ Lastly, we supported 48 children for Christ-mas. 48 students who would not have had presents under their tree, will now wake up on Christmas morning to some very unex-pected surprises.

YOU, Kimball’s congregation have reached out to God’s children and have shown them the unconditional love of Jesus. Please keep this ministry in your prayers, and THANK YOU to everyone who continues to step up and support the members of our community.

KMLC Preschool As we start back to preschool in this new year, please continue to pray for our students, their families, our

staff and their families as we work to provide a loving, Christian preschool experience for our children. We have some spots available for the current 2019-2020 School Year. Registration information are available in the church office or online at kimballchurch.org. If you have any questions about Kimball Lutheran Preschool, please call the church at 704-933-4101. Registration forms for the upcoming school year, 2020-2021, will be available soon. The staff and students had a wonderful Christmas break and we all have come back energized to start the new year. Our supply needs currently are: wipes, liquid hand soap and gallon size Ziploc bag..

We are thankful for your constant support!

OneBlood is a not-for-profit community asset responsible for providing safe, available and affordable blood to more than 200 hospital partners and their patients throughout most of Florida, parts of Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina. ~ 1 in 3 of us will need a blood transfusion. ~ A single blood donation can save 3 local lives. Whole blood is separated into three individual components, platelets, red cells & plasma. ~ Cancer, transplant and trauma patients, and patients undergoing open-heart surgery require platelet transfusions to survive. ~ Anyone in good health, at least 16 years old, and at least 110 pounds may donate whole blood every 56 days. ~ The number one reason donors give blood is because they want to help others. FYI In 2019, here at Kimball, we collected 68 whole blood units – that’s 204 lives saved!! In addition to that, 6 double units were collected – that’s awesome! 2020 Schedule – mark your calendars! January 8, March 4, May 13, July 8, September 9, & November 4 They are all 8-10 weeks apart, so you can donate at each one. All in the Fellowship Hall. Be sure to eat lots of iron-rich foods to get that iron up!! Please consider donating a life-saving pint of blood. The pain is temporary, but the gift can last a lifetime… contact Doris Teumer at 704-305-0761 or at [email protected] You can also sign up at oneblood.org
