Friday25thSeptember@8pmCharolaisWritten and performed by Noni Stapleton. Directed by Bairbre NÍ Chaoimh. CHAROLAIS is an age old tale of female rivalry with a new twist: the other woman is a cow, a literal one, a purebred Charolais heifer. Siobhan’s boyfriend is a farmer who devotes considerable attention to his prize heifer at the expense of his very pregnant girlfriend. Siobhan has developed a homicidal jealousy for this Charolais and is feeling equally murderous towards her snobbish soon-to-be mother in law. A dark comedy of love and longing: rarely in Irish theatre are the challenges of farming life and the joy of sex expressed so frankly or with such charm.

“A fast-paced, witty, and intensely emotional tale filled with laughter, loss and despair”. Irish Times

Lucinda was a Protestant, John a Catholic; Lucinda was a landowner, John her labourer; Lucinda was 58 years old, John was less than half her age. They were lovers. John MacKenna’s new play is a tale of love, lust, land and murder – a passionate and powerful play intended only for over-16s. Tickets €12/€10 Friends 2 for 1

Thursday29thOctober@8pmSelma Dir: Ana DuVernay USA 2014 127 mins Cert: 12AStarring: David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Tom Wilkinson, Oprah Winfrey, Tim Roth. David Oyelowo excels as Martin Luther King in this brilliant account of a key moment in the US civil rights struggle. Spring, 1965. Astute strategist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Martin Luther King Jr (David Oyelowo) knows that the most effective use of non-violence is to provoke a violent response. He selects Selma for a protest march because of its racist governor George Wallace (Tim Roth) and the brutality of its police force. Ava DuVernay’s insightful, profoundly moving drama captures the political chicanery surrounding this turning point for the civil rights movement. Tickets €7 Presented in association with Access Cinema.
