NAIDOC Week NAIDOC Week has been a resounding success with all of our students having a great time discussing, exploring and participating in Aboriginal activities throughout the week. Monday saw the official NAIDOC Week opening assembly which was led by Rhian S, Darby-Leigh D and Kiara J-F. This assembly introduces Mr Stuart McMinn to our school community. Stuart is an international performer and has been working teaching our students traditional Aboriginal dances. We are hopeful that in Terms 3 and 4 Stuart will be able to continue his programs and hopefully expand into some didgeridoo groups. Mrs Sharna Bowman, Aboriginal Engagement Officer from Gosford District Office was a special guest and was blown away by the quality of our student speakers, dancers, iMovie presentation and overall student behaviour. Both Stuart and Sharna were highly impressed that the entire school knew the words and actions to the Koori Choir song Taba Naba. Tuesday saw staged based classroom rotations where staff had prepared special activities to support our NAIDOC program for 2015. Students changed classes every 30 minutes to experience three high quality lessons during our middles session of learning. As I entered rooms, it was pleasing to hear quality questions and seeing the students highly engaged in this annual project. Well done everyone. Earlier today we had Stuart return, this time with some of his colleagues to put on a superb show of traditional Aborignal Dance. After our whole school performance, year groups came back to the hall one by on throughout the day to have smaller more focused workshops. The feedback has been excellent from both staff and students. We are so lucky to have Stuart working with our students. I would like to take this opportunity to also thank Miss Cristal Walters who was instrumental in helping make this project come together. Well done and thank you! 2016 Enrolments We are currently in a planning phase for 2016. It is important that we have accurate numbers of kindergarten students who will be coming to this great school in 2016. If you have not yet made contact about enrolment for 2016 please do so as soon as possible. If you know of any community members who have children who are due to start next year, please ask them to make contact with the school’s front office team. When enrolling please remember the following items: (All items should be originals, we can make copies) Your child’s birth certificate Proof of address (Rates notice, rental agreement, electricity accounts etc) ACIR Immunisation Statement Medical Plans (Asthma, Anaphylaxis etc) Supporting medical paperwork/reports from specialists if your child has any additional needs Any family law, AVOs or relevant court orders By enrolling your child, you will be added to our mailing list for all future information as we lead into our 2016 information and orientation sessions. School Security As the school holidays approach it is a perfect time to remind all parents and community members that school security is everybodies business. Although staff are onsite for various reasons throughout the holidays, if you hear or see any suspicious activities or know of any damage, please contact the School Security Unit on1300 880 021. Only together can we protect our great school.

Central Coast Dance Festival KVPS has had yet another successful year at the Central Coast Dance Festival. Last night I was once again lucky enough to see the Senior Dance Group performing ‘Best years of our lives.’ I would like to congratulate and thank our talented dancers, their parents for providing transport and our wonderful staff who have worked with the students and given up their evenings to support the Central Coast Dance Festival. A fantastic team effort, well done. Semester 1 Academic Reports Semester 1 reports will be issued tomorrow, Thursday June 25. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher for an appointment. Please remember, students achieving a sound grading in their report means your child is working at expected grade level, which should be congratulated.

Helping your child with spelling At home, have your child write as often as possible. Ask your child to write anything from shopping lists to birthday request lists, to filling in forms and writing phone messages. Helping your child with patterns and algebra With young children: Discuss the numbers on houses in the street and ask your child to describe what is happening to the

numbers as you walk along the street. Play games involving body actions such as clapping and stamping your feet. Ask your child to repeat the

pattern and then to make up a pattern for you to repeat. With older children: When watching sporting games calculate scores or investigative combinations of scoring possibilities.

For example: The Eels scored 12 points in the first half. What combinations of tries and goals will give this score?

Star Reward Day This Friday,

The Term 2 Star Reward will be a movie in the hall. Students who have received their award may bring snacks, a pillow and a blanket if they wish. The K-2 movie will be straight after the Award Assembly and the 3-6 movie will be after lunch.

Students do not need to bring lots of snacks, just enough for themselves to enjoy during the movie. We are looking forward

to a good day!

1. What is the best part about your job?

The best part of my job is working with all of the gorgeous children.

2..What is your favourite thing about Killarney Vale Public School?

I really like that Killarney Vale is a smaller school. It has been great getting to know all of the

wonderful children and staff.

3. If you had to sell everything you owned but got to keep one thing what would it be and why? This is such a difficult question! After much thought…I think I would keep my photo

albums. They contain my special memories. Special memories like backpacking overseas,

getting married, buying my first home and having my children.

4. What interests do you pursue outside the classroom?

I absolutely love being outdoors in the garden especially in the vegie patch and orchard. I also love

to watch my husband and son play baseball and my daughter play netball.

5. What is your favourite season of the year? Why?

I really couldn’t choose a favourite season. I think there is something wonderful about them all that

I just love.
