Dear Readers,

What a great season we are heading into! As we come into the harvest season of 2008 the Lord reminds me of what He said to us from the beginning of this year. It was His blessing to say that for KICKS there was going to be, "Open gates for 2008"! His word has come to pass for us. As we release this issue for your family we are expectant for more great things coming our way and yours. Those open gates have been multiple. I can remember asking the Lord, did you say "gate" or "gates"? He reassured me, "gates". I thought what does that mean? I know this, everything we have dreamed for has come into this new year and new adventure for our ministry and as it has, it is for you, the family units that He has blessed to raise wonderful Godly children in His word and principles. He has opened the gates of our very own publishing company to produce wonder-ful reading material for your children. Our first releases for Thanksgiving and Christmas of our very own Elmer books, Elmer and the Mayflower, A Colonial Christmas with Elmer, Elmer Discovers the Star and another special Christmas book called, Christmas Raphsody. He has opened the gates of book writing, which includes a new series just for your children called, "Be All that God Made You To Be" series where your children are featured in books all about them and their fami-lies. We are on our way! He has opened the gates of our International outreach into the areas of Peru, Af-rica, and India. We have begun networking areas with our international KICKS Club outreach to reach the masses of children worldwide. We are setting up KICKS Centers to reach the children. He has opened the gates in Washington DC/Metro as we establish the beginning of a grass roots move of KICKS Club throughout this nation. This KICKS Creative Center in this area will be focusing on raising up a KICKS Club Choir and doing our first choir recording for the KICKS Club Network this year. He has opened the gates in Grand Haven, Michigan with bringing KICKS Club a wonderful staff illustrator named Kevin Collier. Kevin and his wife, Kristen, are also are working in developing our KICKS Creative Center in Michigan that will reach worldwide as Kevin begins to work with children in the art of illustrating. He has opened the gates for new productions for KICKS, as we begin producing this fall our newest program called, "Drawing for KICKS", featuring our illustrator as he teaches the children how to illustrate. He is a wonderful illustrator and a wonderful person who is full of faith that will pass onto your children. He has opened the gates of our television network as He is bringing more and more programing to develop for children and family viewing. He has added to our numbers with wonderful children that we will be using in these programs. He has opened the beautiful amazing gates for KICKS to begin the production of a new movie for families. We not only will be bringing you great programs with Elmer for your children and future televi-sion programs, but we have begun pre-production process with scripting and assigning cast, designing costumes and more for a brand new historical movie about a young girl named, 'Sybil Ludington'. I never knew as the Lord promised His open gates for us this year that He meant all our dreams. He is such a good God and you know, it is all about you and your children. KICKS is here to touch lives. May your family be blessed this harvest season, may we share His graciousness and His heart with you through KidWise!

Have you ever heard of the scripture about how we are the apple of His eye? In Psalm 17:8 it says, "Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings".

We are coming into a great harvest season and apples are just around the corner in abundance. Apples, apples, apples. Proverbs 7:1-2 tells us, "My son, keep my words, and lay up my command-ments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live: and my law as the apple of thine eye." Here we go again, not only has the Lord told us in His word that we are the apple of His eye, but that we should hold His word as the apple of our eye.

Again, in Deuteronomy 32:9-10, the Lord tells that we are found by Him where ever we are because we are

His portion, we are His peo-ple, we are His inheritance. Because of this, He shields us, cares for us, and guards us as the apple of His eye. Not only that, He tells us in Zechariah 2:8, that "who-ever would touch us touches the apple of His eye."

Have you ever heard a fa-ther say, "This is my daugh-ter, she is the apple of my eye?" When this term is used, it is such a term of endearment. To be the ap-ple of your father's eye is such a special place. It means you are the highlight of his view, you are the glory of his existence, you are his precious love. If it is this way for an earthly fa-ther, how much more can it be for us with our Heavenly Father?

In Psalm 17:6, the word tells us, "I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me,

O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.'

1. To be the apple of His eye means He hears us and He inclines His ear to us.

In Psalm 17:7, the word tells us, "Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness..."

2. To be the apple of His eye means He shows us His marvellous lovingingkind-ness.

In Psalm 17:7, the verse goes on to say, "...O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them."

3. To be the apple of His eye means He keeps us and pro-tects us. In verse 8, it goes on to say, "Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me

under the shadow of thy wings..."

Our children are the apple of our eyes and as God's children we are the apple of His eye.

As we study God's word, we find that the word apple, means pupil. The pupil of the eye is the very center of your eye that allows the light to enter. The words 'of the eye' is the Hebrew word, 'bath', which is defined as designation of women of a particular place. As a father loves his daughter and de-clares she is the apple of his eye, the Father in Heaven declares to us that we are His central focus. His eye is on us. His pupil is filled with light as we are the apple. We bring light to Him and to the world through the Son. We are not only the apple of His eye, we are set in a par-ticular place in Him and we

are set in a defined designa-tion in the world. We are the light of Him and are set in His hand and essence and designated for others to see all that He is through us as He focuses His love to us.

To be the apple of God's eye is a place of great glory. It is the place of defined love and endearment. It is the place of His light and as Je-sus has brought the Light into the world (John 1:9), through His sacrifice and resurrection He has made us the Light of the world. (Mat-thew 5:14) We are truly the apple of His eye.

We have all had moments we hoped money could fall from the sky. In those moments you know there is always a need to be met with an intense desire from you that that need would be met. Putting our eyes on the need can get us to look for money in all the wrong places without us even realizing it. What sky have you been look-ing for money to fall from?

That may seem like a silly concept but, there are skies everywhere that people are looking for money to come their way through. A person can start to trust in the system that is the very thing they are fighting. Like gas prices? It would be silly to think your provision would be found in a horse. Clearly the barn would be the wrong place to look for the remedy to rising fuel costs and your family’s answers to them.

The ocean isn't the answer to high electric and utility costs any more than the zoo is to rising food costs. I know this sounds ridiculous but in the Lord's eyes, as we look to the world system to find our answers regarding family finances, it is that far fetched to Him. He has put a plan in motion for us to link up with and that declares to us that the sky is the limit to our finances. That's better than looking for money falling from the sky.

You may think that's easy to say for some be-cause they aren't experiencing what you are. But if you ask the praying mother who didn't know where the next bottle of formula was going to come from for her newborn baby, after that cou-pon came in the mail for her free can, she would tell you it was supernatural in a natural world.

That's when many wonder, "Is money really fal-ling from the sky for me?"

Just ask the missionary out in the field, "How do you do it?" No matter what he's hooked up to to gain funds, it takes the supernatural to make it work. Learning to trust in the supernatural power of God for your families provision can be that simple. When lack seems to be staring you in the face and challenge God's provision it wants to shout, "I'm bigger than what He has to offer!" Or, you can even be tempted to feel at those times, "I know God has provided for others but will it work for me?" The challenge can be that it was a 'miracle' for someone and that didn't include you.

There is something for certain, God will bring His plan before you, including your family plan for finances. As He does, it will be a plan that will always embrace what you have for Him to bring great increase. As you faithfully put what He has placed in your hands towards the purpose He has laid out for your family, He will bring a su-pernatural touch of increase as your faithfulness plants into those seeds of purpose. Looking to-wards God's family plan for you will bring the in-crease for the mission He has given your family and children. Then surprisingly, as you move forward with His purposed plan for your family, believing for His provision for your children, you will find "the sky is the limit" for all that He will do to bless you.

Learning Is Fun!

Have you ever realized that God has made us to learn everyday, no matter who you are, what age you are, or what you do. When we de-cide we know it already then we have found we’ve reached a place where we can't go anywhere but downhill from there. The act of learn-ing is an art that goes beyond going to school. To think the place for learning is school or church would be a mistake.

First, what does learning mean? Learning according to the dictionary means to acquire knowledge through skill or study, instruction or memorization. It defines it as becoming ac-quainted with the truth and ascertaining that truth.

In the Hebrew the word learning, (leqach, pronounced, leh'·kakh), means to gain insight, instruction but it is defined with the word "teaching" and persuasiveness.

Proverbs 9:9, tells us to bring that instruction and teaching to someone 'wise'. This means to bring it to a person who is 'teachable', who doesn't think they already know the answer. It goes on to say when you 'teach' this just person, "he will in-crease in learning". We want our chil-dren to increase in learning!

Keep them teachable by letting them know you al-ways have something to share with them for them to learn.

Psalm 106:34-36 says that people can learn things by who they hang out with...

"They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them."

Keep your children from hanging out with ungodly principles, precepts, and philosophies. Don't let them mingle with the worldly system, and embrace secular agendas.

Psalm 119:6-8 tells us that we are not to be ashamed of God's word and to respect and embrace it. Here the word of God tells us that we should learn God's word."Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judg-ments."

Parents, teachers, ministries, always remember, God has placed His children in our hands that we may show them His ways, and teach them His word everyday of their lives. Don't allow them to be surrounded by secular influences. Influence them by the Holy Spirit’s direction and His design. Influence them by living, speaking, and teaching them God's word.

Teach your children the importance of God's word.Let them know His word is His righteous way of do-ing things.

God has a plan for your children to be teachable. I like to define learning as the desire to obtain knowledge. When you allow that God-given gift within your children to come forth, their desire to be inquisitive and learn, ask ques-tions and draw from a godly environment, your children will obtain knowledge and increase in learning.

Always remember your children are like sponges.They are always drawing from the environment around them.

Since your children are always experiencing life and learning around them. It is important to know that it is the Holy Spirit who is the teacher. It is God's word that they should live by and know. It is your example that they will see 'truth' defined. Be humble and teachable to the Lord's direction, His instruction, those He has put in your life, and study and learn His word to share with your chil-dren everyday.

You are the example of "truth" that your children will see defined.They will learn from you as they experience a family life and example of God's word.

As the school year begins and the older siblings head out the door, your

toddler can be a part of ‘all the fun’, too. Here are some of our fa-vorite 'school' activities for toddlers.

Flash Cards = There is an array of flash cards available to help, yes,

even your toddler learn. Look for simple cards that teach the basics of

shapes, colors, sizes and letters. Find a time during the day that works for both of

you. Go through the cards, starting with just 2 or 3 and keep adding (just 1 or 2 at a time) as your little one begins to learn them. You'll be amazed that your little one can actually learn these things at such a young age!

Backpack = Buy your little one their very own backpack (or perhaps use a 'hand me down'). Fill it with some of their favorite books, colored pictures, crayons and maybe even a snack and have some fun 'playing school'. They'll think they're such big stuff with a backpack like the 'big kids'.

Homework = When the ‘big kids’ are busy studying or doing their home-work, give your little one a ‘work sheet’, too. Whether it’s a page from a

coloring book or some ‘paint with water’, allowing them to work along with the others will help them feel like they’re a ‘big kid’, too.

School Station = Create an area in the house that is set up like 'school'. Use an end table, night stand, or maybe even a small desk, along with a stool or small chair where your little one can sit. Keep a supply of paper, markers, stickers, etc. at

this 'school station', making it as elaborate or simple as you'd like. Set your little one there to play for a while (about 30 min-

utes), calling it 'school' as they color and get creative. Be sure to interact and discuss what they’re doing as they creatively play 'school'.

We hope that these things can be helpful for you and your little one. ‘School’ and learning is something that is fun and working with your child at a very young age will help them develop the desire to learn and achieve. Make it exciting and praise your child as they learn something new. We know that you have a busy schedule, but just a few minuets a day makes a big differ-ence. As you do these things and make them part of a routine, you’ll see how much joy it will bring your little one while they learn so much!

She stood outside the door. "To think", she contemplated, "there was a day when Simon wasn't here." She could still remember his skin; the leper he had become, and the wrenching sight of it. Now she could hear him laughing on the inside. The joy that filled her heart was such an inspiration but it still didn't cease the moment for her to step into the house. She sat down in the dust and laid her head on her knees and watched the tears drop to form a wet spot below her.

The Passover only being two days away was the momentum behind her stepping in. She could hear His voice coming from the inside and it stirred her heart, as with the first time she had ever heard it. That voice was so full of life, of love, of peace... Emotion welled up inside of her and the tears dropped like rain drops from her soft checks to the ground. The Messiah. Jesus the One who had touched her and changed her, and breathed life into all that she was. Knowing Him and seeing Him wasn't enough without loving Him and giving everything she had within the realm of possibility. After all, He had touched her and she had come to know Him. "Oh, that voice," she thought.

She couldn't hear what He was saying but as with every word He spoke there was life within it. With every spoken word she had ever heard from His lips, there was power. There was love. There was peace. There was hope. It seemed to cause something to well up within her as she experienced His word. It had to be faith. It was something that drew her to sit at His feet. It didn't matter that her sister would grow im-patient with her. As she sat at His feet, her heart was touched and her life was changed. Just by listening to His words... Just by hearing His voice speak to her. Even when He wasn't talking directly to her, just as it was today. His voice was a force that was rich with spirit and truth that would always penetrate into her being.

She began to stir the sand, wet from her tears, with her fingers. The rush of emotion was silenced by His voice coming from within. Peace was flooding her like whispers of wind as she pulled the alabaster jar from beneath the drape over her shoulders. She had kept it from being contaminated with the dust from the world. This was all that she had and out of her devotion, knowing that there was nothing within her life that He hadn't touched and changed, she was going to offer it all to Him.

Her thoughts lingered back to the moment He reached her heart and confronted death. She could still hear the sobs as He cried. Her brother laid in a tomb for four days and how she had challenged Him when He

wasn't there before her brother died. The moment He had arrived, she ran to Him and cried out, "If only 'YOU' had been here..." That look penetrated her thoughts. She could still see the expression in His eyes as she fell at His feet. Yet again, that voice, His voice, as He spoke, "Where have you laid him?", was so full of life and promise, blessing and power. It was as if His voice lifted her from His feet and carried her on the wings of God. And then He wept. She remembered how she pondered His heart. Where His pain was coming from. What the expression of His tears meant. How it flooded her heart to hear Him weep. That was when she heard His voice yet again, "Take away the stone..." She whispered it as she stirred the dust, the tears no longer soaking its grainy depths. Her heart bounced with expectancy now that she was on the other side of experience. Never could she have imagined at that moment that His tears were shed by the unbelief she had partici-pated in with all the others around Him. She shuttered to think of the pain that it caused Him that her heart hadn't embraced that He was the Resurrection and the Life. To watch her brother walk out of that tomb in spite of their unbelief, in response to His spoken word, "Lazarus, come forth!", sent chills yet again through her body. Little did she know that day that He would be rolling every stone away.

The clang of raised voices caused her to raise her head up towards the door. The celebration was ringing as the banquet celebrated Jesus and her brother. She could tell that the voices of the Sanhedrin from within were being held silent by the very presence of Him today. The tension in the air was building and the tension of passion was rising within her. Bethany, her home was home to many that were eating within. Not only her brother, but Simon, precious Simon who had been made whole. His hands were freed again, his feet could walk without the bandages that had been such a representation of death. Just like the grave clothes of Lazarus, Jesus removed them and brought Him to life again. For her, He had removed the grave clothes of unbelief.

She could feel herself becoming impatient. To step within the door and make such an entrance that was so against the custom was to her a challenge. To step out beyond tradition to embrace the Master of the wind that seemed to be blowing through her being was going to take courage. She was finding that within her heart to express her love took a measure of courage to go beyond what was comfortable or reasonable. Women just don't enter into a public banquet like this. Especially to enter within the center of it all to greet the guest of honor. Women were always living outside of it all. They were the onlookers but Jesus always allowed her at His feet, not as an outcast, but drawn in to experience Him from the inside.

She pulled herself up by the handle of the door. The voices from the in-side had begun to question Him and here again, she was being drawn to the inside. As the door slowly moved open, the eyes of the crowd turned and became silent. They looked her way as she met His eyes and followed Him with her heart. She could hear His voice even though He wasn't speaking. She could experience His words even though He wasn't saying them for others to hear. It was heart to heart, deep to deep, and His life begetting life. Her alabaster box in her hands, her clothes covered with the dust of the world, she knew as she drew close to Him it didn't matter.

Every eye was beholding as she opened her box and poured upon His head the oil that slowly dripped from its depths. The oil running down her Messiah's face kept the crowd si-lent. It was at that moment her tears again ran down her face. She was drawn to the place she felt most comfortable every time before and laid her face upon His feet. What else was there to do? It was in His presence where she wanted to be to experience Him and to be changed by His very words. Her tears began to drip off His feet like the oil was dripping from His face down His robe. Her

hair, dusted with the streets, fell across her shoulders above the drape she had dropped from her head so long ago and she began to dry His feet with her hair. The most natural thing to do was to wipe them with what was considered her adornment. After all, being adorned by the Master would be her exchange. Noth-ing meant more to her than that.

As she knelt on the floor she began to hear a shuffle. Simon caught up with the attitude of the Sanhedrin, a Pharisee himself, reasoned between tradition and freedom through the Messiah as to why Jesus would allow a woman, a sinner, to touch Him. Yet, Jesus touched her. As she turned to look at Him, to see who had touched her shoulder, she rose to her feet.

Suddenly, one from the room challenged her as he rose offensively to her face. He shouted above the rip-ples of voices that were filled with contempt, dishonor, reason, and tradition. He rebuked her with his words, "Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year's wages and the money given to the poor." His harsh words challenged her actions and then again, she heard His voice, "LET HER ALONE; why trouble ye her? She hath wrought a good work on me."

The strength of His words pierced her with the courage that she needed. His word, "Let her alone", would also ring out for those who have poured their all out to the Master. His words silenced the judgment, they silenced the reasonings against faith, they silenced the uprising of tradition. And many would see, He was going to silence the sound of the betrayers by 'His' offering.

As Judas stormed out of Simon's house, pushing her aside, Lazarus looked on in astonishment at him. Si-mon's eyes darted back to Lazarus, after looking at his son storm from his father's house. Did she just hear what she thought she heard? Those words of Jesus passed through her and she grasped them back again with her thoughts and a shake of her head.

"I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told..."

Her gift was to be honored with His message, His words, His life? Her gift was to be told with His Gos-pel? What she had done would reach the world through His very word? It is to be that way for all, our gifts are honored with His message. Our gifts are honored with His word. Our gifts are honored with His life and are told throughout the world with His Gospel.

Mary stooped to the ground below. She touched the dust by the empty tomb. It was no longer in her hair, it was no longer filled with her tears, she had found her Savior risen from the dead. His tomb was empty and today she was standing beside the stone that was rolled away. Again she heard the depth of His voice, "Take away the stone..." But this time, He had no tears, for faith was risen within her to know that since He was no longer in the tomb, He was no longer on the outside of her heart. She now was experiencing the precious gift of His oil, the Holy Spirit, rolling over her heart as she found she was filled with Him, the Messiah, who is the Resurrection and the Life.

What You Need:4 large tomatoes, skinned (optional), seeded and diced(place in colander to drain or put paper towel in bottom of bowl to soak up extra liquid while you prepare the rest of the goodies for the pie)

black pepper5-8 fresh basil leaves, chopped (may use dried, about 1TBSP)grated parmesan cheese

1/3 c mayonnaise1 heaping tsp minced garlic2 c shredded cheese (we used muenster but mozzarella or provolone would also work)

pie crust + puff pastry (or you may make your own crust -- do the batch + half, that way you have some to lattice on the top of the pie)

Instructions:Preheat oven to 350

Mix together mayo, garlic and shredded cheese.Layer tomatoes in pie shell, lightly pepper. Add basil, cover with parmesan cheese then spread on mayo mix.Top with pastry, lattice style, pressing at edges.

Bake for about an hour and a half. (bake less if you want your cheese less brown, or more if you want it more brown)

Tomato Pie?! Yes, you read correctly. Tomato pie. I had never heard of it before, either, but upon harvesting way more tomatoes than I knew what to do with I started discovering more and more uses for tomatoes. This pie is warm and cheesy, a great ‘end of the Summer/beginning of Autumn’ dish.

Use this fun and energetic ‘cheer’ to get your kids blood pumpin’ as they do the actions. Spinning, stretching and jumping high are all part of it. Say Romans 8:2 together and rejoice that we are free because of what Jesus did for us!

Picking. Just going to the orchard together as

a family and picking a few apples is such a treat!

Plan a trip and make it a family event.

Baking. We all know about apple pie and crisp,

but maybe try finding a recipe for homemade ap-

ple sauce, apple muffins or bread, waffles, or even

candy apples! There are many ways you can use

apples in baking and have fun together as a fam-

ily.

Crafting. There are all sorts of great

crafts that call for apples. The best part is,

they smell so yummy! Search online or in

magazines for crafts that use apples --

wreaths, garland and even clove apples are all

great and easy projects.

Just Plain Eatin’. One of the best things about

autumn is eatin’ apples. Wash them, put them in a

bowl or basket where they’re easy to get to and

enjoy. Slice them and dip them in peanut butter, or

just eat it bite by bite down to the core. They’re

great any time of the day -- breakfast, lunch,

snack or even dessert!

uses for apples. This autumn, KidWise would like to encour-

age your family to put to use this great fruit! Here are some of our ideas.

Get Busy

The season of harvest is upon us. It won't be long ‘til the fields will be busy with combines, tractors and wagons bringing in the fruits of their labors. Have you ever thought about your harvest? I heard that! What do you mean you are not a farmer? A farmer is simply someone who takes what God has given and sows, nourishes and protects it until harvest time. What I'm referring to is His Word. God has given us His Word to plant into our lives. He has also given us His Word to water and nourish the Word we planted and then if that wasn't enough He even gave us His Word to bring the harvest. Just as a farmer has the tools neces-sary to plant, cultivate and harvest, we also have all the tools we need to see a great harvest in our lives. God gave us His word not just so we would have something to read, more importantly so that we would have something to use (tools). He wants us to also pray and speak His word. Do you want to see a harvest of God's goodness in your life? Maybe it's financial, physical or spiri-tual. Do you want to see loved ones come to know the Lord? Then get busy! The Bible says that the harvest is HUGE but the workers are few (Luke 10:2). We need to work God's Word, begin to speak and pray God's Word. It's time to sink the plow of faith and obedience (James 2:14) (Proverbs 20:4) deep into our spiri-tual lives and plant the seed of the Word of God (Luke 8:11). Only then will we get a glimpse of the huge harvest that awaits us through God's Word.

We all know that learning has it’s challenges, so take advantage of the opportunity to make something fun - study cards. Using envelopes give you the ability to change the content

when needed. Include scripture on the cards to speak over yourself. Keep them in a place where you’ll see them (or even in your book-bag or notebook) and study them often.

What You'll Need:•white card stock•colored markers (also stamps, stickers, etc.)•different colored papers or patterned papers•small envelopes (or paper to make a 'pocket')•glue stick (or some type of adhesive)

Instructions:1. Cut or tear card stock to the size you desire (ours are 4.25 x 5.5 inches). Decorate using markers, stamps, stickers, whatever you'd like to decorate your card. Make it as fancy or simple as you'd like.

2. Cut colored or patterned paper to fit inside of envelope. Write study notes in a way that as you pull the paper out, the answer is still hidden or on the back. This will give you time to think about the question before you see the answer. You can decorate this part, too, if you'd like.

3. Put paper (with written question and answer) in-side of envelope, then adhere envelope to card. Write scripture somewhere on the card to confess when you study.

"Johnny Tremain" is a great Disney classic to share with your children. Directed by Robert Stevenson of the TV series, 'Gunsmoke' and 'Zorro', he is also known for Disney movies such as, "The Absent Minded Professor", "Son of Flubber", "Herbie Rides Again", as well as many others. "Johnny Tremain" is the story of a young teenager who gets hooked up with the Sons of Liberty and takes part in the Revolutionary War. This movie brings opportunity for children to learn about the freedom many fought for during the early history of our country.

Johnny learns about the Boston Tea Party, the mid-night ride of Paul Revere, and the many men who organized the fight for our freedom. It makes for a fun evening as it brings out history of our country with the opportunity for a family learning experi-ence. The dynamics of the film helps children de-velop a clear understanding that we fought in a war for our freedom and shows the Battle of Lexington without the violence in film that would be known for in today's millennium. This 1957 rendition for chil-dren shows a battle with no bloody scenes, al-though a few bodies fall and are left behind to show

that there was a price paid for those courageous enough to fight and stand. "Johnny Tremain" helps bring definition to children about those 'fighting for our freedom' in America, and about those who have fought and are fighting honorably even today. It gives parents an opportunity in an nonthreatening way to describe why and how we have fought as a nation for what we believe in and the freedoms we hold so dear.

The movie also shows Johnny Tremain walk away from the temptations that would drive him back to England to compromise the freedom of his country America. It shows him indifferent in the onset and drawn courageously into the battle for his country by showing his allegiance turn to being a free 'young' American during the time of Britain's domi-nance. The movie portrays simply that no matter how young you are, you can stand without com-promise for what you believe in and that this coun-try is made up of those who stood together for 'lib-erty'. The 'Sons of Liberty' are displayed with honor and courage as they press forward for the cause. Johnny not only finds freedom through his commit-ment to those men who stood for liberty, he finds his freedom through Samuel Adams representing him as a lawyer and Dr. Joseph Warren who helps restore his burnt hand.

This movie is an inspiration and a great way to bring patriotic education to your children in your family's July 4th celebration. As they experience "Johnny Tremain" become a patriot fighting for the freedom of our early colonies from England, they will relate to the celebration of our nationʼs birth with a fresh new experience from the view of a teenager in 1773-1776.

‘ S u m m e r A l l D o n e ’ f rom E lmer

Let me see, I need to empty my wading pool and put it away until next summer. I need to cover my sandbox, pick up all my outside toys. WOW! Summer is over already, now we are moving into fall which is harvest time. I spent all Summer playing and splashing around in my pool spending time with my friends. I had a super great Summer! Wow I just had the thought that Summer was a time of planting and grow-ing and now that Fall is coming I can enjoy my harvest. I have lots of new friends to enjoy, new things I learned about to enjoy, lots of great memories to enjoy. I had such a super Summer that I now have a super harvest to enjoy. You know what? I am going to start planting now for my Winter and Spring harvest so they, too, will be awesome. I think we should always plant for our harvest, like helping others, being kind and friendly, reading God's Word, and always doing our best in everything. I better get busy I have some harvest to plant and enjoy. Oh yea, I have to take down my picnic table umbrella.

What You Need:

•Bible (Romans 8:2)•ball•paper•different colored

markers1. Write Romans 8:2 on paper using a different color for each word.

2. Place written scripture on the floor and sit in a circle around it, spread

out enough to toss the ball back and forth but can still see the scrip-ture.

3. Each person say the words of Romans 8:2 in order as they randomly toss the ball to the next person.

4. Do this several times until each person knows how the verse goes. See how fast you can go as you say the verse.

** For more of a chal-lenge remove the verse from the center and see who can do it without seeing the words. If someone misses the word, they’re out. Keep it up until there is one person left but make sure they can say the verse all the way through before declared ‘the winner’.
