n Audience: K-2
n Focus: Brief introduction of search engines, how to do a search, and how to narrow a search for better results
n Tools: I will use a PowerPoint presentation for the lesson (presentation starts after this slide). The students will have a leaflet (created on Lucidpress) with key points of the information that was presented, so they can refer back to it if they need to, as they are doing their searches.

n Follow these easy steps!
+Step 1: Key words
n Think about your topic or question
n Identify key words n Words that describe what you are looking for
n Example: What is the largest mammal in the world? n Key word: mammal
+Step 2: Search
n Once you have identified the word you will be looking for, type it in the search box, then click search:

Then click on Search button
+Step 3: Narrow your search n Oh no! What happens if you can’t find what you’re
looking for?
+Boolean search n Remember you need to be specific!
n Look at your question again and find more words that describe your topic
n Example: What is the largest mammal in the world? n Key words: mammal and largest
n Use boolean search operators:
and, or, not
+Step 4: Search again
n Once you have additional key words, type them in the search box
n Remember to use and, or, not
n Click “Search” again
Type in the search box
Then click on Search button
+Step 5: Review the results
n Remember to check for credible sources of information

n If you need images for your topic, just click on the tab that says “Image”
