ACDS Classes Recruiting for Fall

Important Announcements

ACDS is currently recruiting students for a Semester 1 class which will begin in Septem-ber in Wood County. If you are interested in attending or would like more information about the Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialists Program, please contact Gwen Crum at [email protected]. The Child Care Certificate (DAY-0176) is separate from the Provider Notification Letter (DAY-0613) and is issued directly to the client. Per WV Child Care Subsidy Policy, “If a provider does not have a Certificate, she will not be paid for care.” (WVCCSP 9.4.1.6.)

Food and Fun

Mystery Games Materials: Trees, blindfold, part-ner Directions: Look around and choose a tree. Go up to the tree and touch it, smell it, and listen. Try to memorize the sounds around the tree, the smell, and the texture of the tree. Take 20 steps away from the tree. Have your partner blindfold you and spin you around (gently) several times. With your partner guiding you (and keeping you safe from branches or holes or other things that might cause you to fall) try to find your way back to the tree. Once you think you’ve found the tree, remove your blindfold and see if you were correct. Switch roles with your partner and play again!

Mud Pies Ingredients: Containers, dirt, water, and natural objects

Directions: Mix just enough wa-ter into the dirt to make it molda-ble. Create as many delicious

treats as you want. Cakes and cupcakes are our favorites. Deco-rate your creations.

Butterfly Pretzels Ingredients: Celery stick, pret-zels, cream cheese, raisins Directions: Cut celery stick into 2 x 10cm lengths. Fill each piece with cream cheese. Place 2 pret-zels in the cream cheese to make butterfly wings. Place 3 raisins along the length of the celery un-derneath the wings. Break 2 small pieces off 1 extra pretzel and place above the whole pret-zels to make antennae. Serve im-mediately.

Strawberry Ladybugs

Ingredients: Strawberries, blue-berries, chocolate chips, candy decorating bag

Directions: Remove the tops of the strawberries by cutting a small V-shape (this will leave a nice little pocket to attach their “heads”). Cut strawberries in half lengthwise. Melt chocolate in candy decorating bag according to instructions on package. Make a small cut at the point of the bag. TIP: In a pinch you can also use a regular plastic zipper bag and cut one of the corners to decorate. In this case, do not melt the choco-late in the bag, but instead melt in a microwave safe bowl and scoop into the bag. Squeeze small dots of chocolate onto the strawber-ries. Use chocolate to attach the blueberry “head.” Allow choco-late to harden. Use chocolate to draw legs and antennae on the serving plate. Now the best part…enjoying them!
