PARENTS NOTE:Toddlers around 18 months to 3 years will need a fair

bit of assistance and you will probably end up doing

a lot of the work yourself, but they will enjoy placing

the “pretties” (as I call them) on the creation to help

decorate. They will be very excited to be helping!

Children aged 3 years and up just need a bit of

guidance with their cutting and pasting. This activity is

great for practicing fine motor skills.

Whatever the age of your kids, make sure you stay

with them to help guide, instruct and most importantly

supervise to make sure they don’t cut their fingers or

hurt themselves in some way.

Get crafty this Easter

EASTER CHICK CARDYou will need:

• shape template from back of this guide

• thin yellow cardboard

• thin black cardboard

• thin orange cardboard

• 2 split pins (or you can glue the wings on but they

won’t be able to flap)

• 2 large google eyes (or you can just draw them on)

• pva or craft glue

• scissors, pencil and a black texta /or black sharpie

INSTRUCTIONS• Take both your child’s hands and place them on the

yellow cardboard. Spread their fingers slightly apart,

trace around both hands with a pencil and cut out

the shapes.

• Draw an oval shape, or use the template from the

back of this guide, onto yellow cardboard and then

cut it out.

• Take the wings (your child’s yellow hand cutouts)

and place them slightly under the sides of the oval

(make sure that the thumbs are closest to the oval).

Either glue them in place or use split pins to attach

the wings so they can flap.

• Trace the template at the back of this guide or draw

a diamond shape for the beak and shapes for the

legs, then cut them out. Fold the diamond in half

and glue one half onto the oval to make a 3D beak.

Place the legs at the bottom of the oval and glue

them so they are attached at the back.

• Draw on eyes or glue on google eyes.

• Write ‘Happy Easter’ and hey presto…you’re done!

Find templates at the back of this guide.

EASTER BUNNY DOOR HANGERYou will need:

• shape template from back of this guide

• foam door hanger (check out the

cheap $2 shops or craft stores)

• white, pink and black craft foam

• some Easter or spring foam shapes

(if you can’t find any, you can draw and cut some

shapes out of the coloured foam sheets)

• craft glue

• for the whiskers use black scoobies (long thin

plastic tubes, you can find them everywhere)

• two 1/2 inch white pom poms

• scissors

• black texta/sharpie

INSTRUCTIONS• Use the template at the back of this guide, or

draw and cut out foam shapes to make the bunny.

Alternatively you can purchase pre cut shapes

from craft stores. Use the picture as a guide to

assemble the shapes on the hanger so it looks like

a rabbit (see image). Glue them into place.

• Glue on the white pom poms to make the rabbit

cheeks and poke the scoobie whiskers just under

the pom poms.

• Write ‘Happy Easter’ and then glue on some Easter

or spring foamies to decorate.

RABBIT AND CHICKEN BEADY BABIESYou will need:

• large coloured wooden beads or Styrofoam balls

(which you will need to paint with acrylics)

• feathers for the chickens

• craft foam to make the rabbits ears

• google eyes or black sharpie to draw them

• coloured pipe cleaners

INSTRUCTIONSJoin two Styrofoam craft balls together by poking a

skewer through to join the body and heads. Paint with

acrylic paint, choose any colour you like. Either draw

on eyes or glue on google eyes.

To make your little beady babies stand up, take a

pipe cleaner and make two round loops for the legs

and leave a bit extra after the loops to poke into the

base of the ball.

To make a chicken: poke a feather into the top of the

head and draw on an orange beak (or you may like to

stick on an orange foam or cardboard beak).

To make a rabbit: draw a nose and whiskers, use

coloured foam to make some bunny ears and glue

them onto the top of the back of the head.

Gorgeous!

CHOCOLATE CRACKLE RECIPE250g copha

4 cups rice bubbles

1 cup coconut

3 tablespoons of cocoa

1 cup icing sugar

Melt copha and mix in with other ingredients,

put into egg shaped moulds and refrigerate.

CHOCOLATE COCONUT BASKETS125g copha

1/2 cup icing sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons of cocoa

Shredded coconut

Melt copha and add icing sugar and cocoa. Add

enough shredded coconut until the mixture becomes

coarse, place into muffin or patty cake tins and

refrigerate. Decorate with chocolate Easter eggs.

EASTER EGG CARAMEL SLICE1 1/2 cups of plain flour

1/3 cup castor sugar

80g butter

1 egg yolk

500g mini solid Easter eggs

1 cup shredded coconut

1 can condensed milk

Line base and sides of a rectangular or square pan,

leaving an overhang. Combine flour, sugar and

butter in food processor, add egg yolk and approx

2 tablespoons of cold water, process until it comes

together (you may need more water). Press mixture

into pan and bake for 15 minutes or until light golden

brown. Allow to cool.

Unwrap Easter eggs, cover entire base with eggs,

sprinkle with coconut, drizzle condensed milk over

the top, bake for 30 minutes or until edges are deep

golden and the centre is firm to touch. Allow slice

to cool completely in pan and then cut into squares.

Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

Easter indulgenceNot that we need an excuse, but Easter is a great time to eat more chocolate. If you want to try something a bit different to the standard shop bought Easter eggs this year, check out these fantastically decadent

delicious recipes. They are a great gift idea and perfect to have with a cuppa when you are catching up with friends over Easter. Or you can just do what we did…make it and eat it!

CAROB AND YOGHURT EASTER EGGSCarob and yoghurt buds

Yoghurt-coated sultanas

Easter egg mould

Cellophane

Ribbon

Half fill a saucepan with water, and bring to the boil.

Reduce to a simmer and place a heatproof bowl on

top of the saucepan. Place your carob and yoghurt

buds in the bowl and stir gently until they melt. If they

don’t seem to be melting, increase the heat slightly.

When the carob and yoghurt have formed a smooth

liquid, pour small amounts into the Easter egg mould.

Use a (new) paintbrush or knife to spread the liquid

around the sides of your mould. Try to create a good

layer of the liquid around the whole mould, if it’s too

thin it will break easily. Once you are happy with the

mould place it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.

When it’s set, tap the mould on your bench and it

should come out. If it doesn’t, place it back in the

fridge for another couple of minutes.

Repeat with the other side of the mould, and then fill

one side with yoghurt-coated sultanas. Use some of

the melted liquid to coat the rim of the egg/bunny,

then place the other half on top, so you are ‘glueing’

the two pieces together.

Put back in the fridge for 5 minutes to set. Once set,

wrap your egg in cellophane and tie with ribbon.

EASY EASTER APPETISERCob Loaf

Round bread roll

Baguette

Carrot, cut into sticks

Celery, cut into sticks

Olives

Dip of choice

Cut a hole into the centre of a cob loaf and hollow

out space for dip, keep the bread for dipping. Place

a round bread roll in position for the head. Cut two

ends off a baguette and position as the bunny’s ears.

Use black olives cut in half as the eyes. Quarter

or half of a black olive to make the nose. Create

whiskers wtih thin strips of celery, and the mouth

with a cross section of celery. Use a small amount

of dip on the back of each of the facial features to

stick. Arrange carrots, slices of celery, and chunks of

bread around the bunny. Serve it up! Easy, yummy,

and cute.

Spinach Dip

1 package (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed

and squeezed dry

1 container (16 oz.) sour cream

1 cup mayonnaise

1 package Spring Vegetable recipe mix

1 can (8 oz.) water chestnuts, drained and chopped

Combine all ingredients and chill for about 2 hours.
