BREAKING DOWN STEREOTYPES Our gifts for Mission & Service support peace and justice work. Let us hear a story from Lebanon. What will it take to bring peace to the Middle East? Mission & Service partner the Middle East Council of Churches believes it includes creating opportunities for youth to relate to one another across differences and to reject judgment and stereotypes. The realities of the region mean that Christians and Muslims live in a state of heightened tension and potential conflict. In Lebanon these tensions have been exacerbated by the influx of a large number of displaced persons, many from Syria, who have stretched to the breaking point communities’ capacity to cope. The Middle East Council of Churches plans to bring together groups of youth aged 1522 in Lebanon. The youth will meet with one another to discuss, work, and play together to lay the foundations for new and positive ways of understanding and seeing one another beyond traditional boundaries and barriers. The experience will give participants real and practical models for MuslimChristian dialogue in their own communities. We sing thanksgiving for the ways that Mission & Service is in the Middle East helping to change hearts and minds for the sake of peace and justice. If Mission & Service is already a regular part of your giving, thank you so much! If you have not given for Mission & Service, please join me in making Mission & Service a regular part of your life of faith. MONTHLY FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST – SUNDAY NOVEMBER 26

Enjoy a great breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. followed by a guest speaker sharing something important about the connections between faith and life. It only costs $3 a person to defray expenses (BTW, kids under 12 eat free!) and we wrap up by 9:20 or so to give plenty of time to prepare for worship. Sunday, November 26 “To China with Love” - Last November, an extraordinary event took place in Chengdu, West China, i.e. the opening of a museum to honour the historic Canadian School for Missionary Children founded by Canadian Methodists in 1909. Our own Glenn Owen was among 16 descendants of Canadian missionaries to attend that event. As was our speaker Phyllis Donaghy, a local writer, community volunteer and active member of Bath United Church. She has written extensively about the school and its important contribution to Christian life and work in West China. All are welcome. RSVP Craig Pettis at [email protected]

LOOKING FOR SOME WINTER READING?

Wayne and Jean have gone through their personal library and are selling some books in the Narthex. Each book, only a LOONIE! All proceeds will go towards

the El Salvador Scholarship Fund.

Colegio Bautista Emmanuel (CBE) scholarship program The Council of Elders, at its meeting May 23, gave its approval for our church to support this fantastic little school in San Salvador and its scholarship program. These scholarships provide an opportunity for children and young people from the poorest part of the city to attend a very good school and experience the hope of a promising future. The school is one of several programs operated by the Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel (Emmanuel Baptist Church), which is twinned with us here at Edith Rankin. $200 USD ($255 CDN) pays for an elementary school child to attend for one year. $300 USD ($383 CDN) pays for a high school student to attend for one year $500 USD ($640 CDN) pays for a university student to attend for one year The amounts above are the costs per student to attend. Use this as a guide to your giving, but don’t be restricted by it. Any amount donated will be appreciated and will be sent directly to San Salvador in time for their second school term. An opportunity to support this wonderful program will be provided over the next several Sundays. Special grey-coloured offering envelopes will be available for you to use

*** The Frozen Entrees team has done up Chili that will be for sale at the Bazaar. Proceeds from these items go toward new chairs for the Lower Hall. Selling price for the Chili $7.
