Once again this was a successful event, and the visual and material outcomes speak for themselves: beautiful panels, cute little dolls, sturdy baskets, pages of careful calligraphy and much more. Less visible are the outcomes which may perhaps be more lasting: TWOTMT provides a wonderful opportunity for tuakana-teina learning, where the older and the younger learn from and with each other. Walking around the school even now we can see that the children mingle and play with each other beyond their class groups, and that children and adults alike have gotten to know each other another a bit better. This is something very important to us as an educational community; through being with their kindergarten teachers for three years and then with their class teacher for up to seven more, and being taught also by our wonderful specialist teachers throughout their journey, the children end up being very well known and supported by many adults. We are practicing a “Whole Village” approach which has been very beneficial for teachers and children. Our teachers strive to also include whānau in this, and appreciate the support that is offered. It is important to acknowledge the enthusiasm and hard work of the teachers organizing and contributing to TWOTMT. Aleka in particular was instrumental in getting this year’s edition going – thank you. We are also grateful to the teachers and staff who came in on their days off to run workshops. At the end of this term we will farewell Sue Hurst and Lisa Talbot. Sue has been teaching one day in the kindergarten and is now embarking on a full-time career change. Pānui #15 / 21st September 2017

Kia ora koutou, dear Parents, Whānau, and Friends,

Entering last week’s sharing assembly, whānau who were able to attend walked past some lovely photos taken during the recent Te Wiki O Te Mahi Tahi.

This is something very important to us as an educational community; through

being with their kindergarten teachers for three years and then with their class teacher for up to seven more, and being taught also by our wonderful specialist teachers throughout their journey, the children end up being very well known and supported by many adults.

We are also grateful to the teachers and staff who came in on their days off to run

workshops.

At the end of this term we will farewell Sue Hurst and Lisa Talbot. Sue has been teaching one day in the kindergarten and is now embarking on a full-time career change. Sue has of course been with the kindergarten and school since its inception, and we are deeply grateful for all she has contributed over the years. Lisa Talbot has been a playgroup facilitator and kindergarten assistant for four years. Lisa is moving up to Northland for a round of new adventures,

and we will most certainly miss her “can-do” attitude. Thank you, Lisa, and all the best for your future endeavours.

Tomorrow’s spring equinox marks the turning of the season. Let’s

hope that with it comes some change in the form of sunnier and drier weather. Enjoy the holidays, and we look forward to welcoming you all again on the 16th of October.

NZ Book Month

It is NZ book month and Nick and his team (Jakob and Theresa) have done a wonderful job implementing the changes suggested by the

teachers Library Mandate Group. Together with Josie, our library parent helper, we have identified how we can improve our shelving area to accommodate many (at least 200) more books, as we currently have a reasonably small selection for our students. The Library Mandate group is also working closely with Ropata to

Recycle your used oral care items at Te Rā School! As well as diverting these items from landfill, between now and the end of October, our school will have a chance to win prizes!

There is a box in the foyer - all you need to do is put your used oral care items in it. Toothpaste tubes, boxes, toothbrushes, floss packaging etc. The only thing you can't put in is used dental floss.

Each week we send in a package we will go in the draw for $1000, and then the main prize draw which is a garden bed made from recycled materials valued at $1500, plus a $200 Mitre 10 voucher.

Let’s recycle as much as we can! If you have any questions, you can

Have you ever wanted to write a piece for recorder? Maybe a piano sonata? Or even a symphony? My name is Stephanie Ann Boyd, I’m a symphonic composer in New York City, and I went to the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor. You can find me on the list of Famous Waldorf Alumni, and my music is now being played all over the world. I teach music composition lessons via Skype and I’ve helped over 100

people write their first pieces. I charge $100 an hour, and have several financial scholarships for those who need them. I love to teach Waldorf students and their parents! You can read more about how I help composers at http://stephanieannboyd.com/teaching, and you can send me an email at [email protected] to learn more.
