The end of 2010 was an exciting time for K.H.S. Musical Instrument Co., LTD. In October the American branch moved to a new office outside of Nashville, Tennessee. The new facility offers shipping and storage functions alongside of quality control and repair services. In keeping with the core value of K.H.S. to promote music education, Jupiter and K.H.S. America donated 24 wind instruments to the Nashville Symphony. At the same time, Jupiter, one of the most successful wind instrument brands in the world, was awarded 2010 Taiwan Superior Brand.
At the 2011 winter NAMM show, Jupiter launches the new XO Bass trombone and Bb clarinet.

Jupiter Adds New Models to the Line-up The JSL-1240 XO bass trombone and JCL-637 Bb clarinet are the latest additions to the JUPITER product line. They share the same craftsmanship and progressive designs as other instruments in the line.

Mapex Unleashes the Ferocious Sound of the Black Panther Drum Set Line
Mapex opens the new year with an entirely new drum set class based off the iconic Black Panther Snare Drum series. Beginning with the Blaster drum kit in 2011, the Black P a n t h e r s u i t e w i l l feature unique drum s e t s f o r u n i q u e drummers.
“Since 1997 the Black Panther snare drum h a s b e e n t h e
drummer’s choice for snares all over the world. This success is based on the fact that drummers can find a snare that fits their own unique sound,” says Joe Hibbs, Product Manager for Mapex Drums. “We closely examined the many Black Panther shell formulas offered over the years. After much testing and listening we found a few of these shell combinations to be perfect for this new breed of drum set.”
The Black Panther line continues the world class heritage of the Orion series, which was immensely popular with professional players. Based on advanced acoustic technology and featuring a wide variety of unique shell compositions, each Black Panther series kit is modeled after the snare drum from which it is derived.
The Blaster kit will feature thin maple shells (5.1mm toms and 7.2mm bass) with walnut sound-shaping rings (3.4mm) that will give drummers a full bodied sound, very direct and powerful. Each drum will be accented with brushed black chrome hardware and Remo Renaissance Ambassador heads.
“The Black Panther drum set line is yet another example of the Mapex commitment to provide an instrument that speaks to the artist side of every drummer,” says Hibbs. “It is all about hearing something in your head and then having an instrument that brings it to life.”
The Blaster series will be available on a very limited basis for a very limited time, beginning January 2011. The second half of 2011 will feature the second release in the series, the Velvetone, with more models slated for release in 2012 and beyond.

Mapex Puts the Pedal to the Metal with New RAPTOR Direct Drive Pedal
Mapex Drums introduces the RAPTOR Direct Drive drum pedal. Combining the best features of each assembly, the durable steel linkage has the accuracy of a direct drive while maintaining the classic feel of a chain drive.
“The Direct Drive RAPTOR is the only pedal that mixes the appeal of a direct drive with the feel of a chain drive,” says Joe Hibbs, Product Manager for Mapex. “We have incorporated many of the key features from our popular Falcon pedal into the new RAPTOR pedal, including a beater with interchangeable weights, smaller pedal footprint, and floating spring assembly.”
The new RAPTOR pedal will be available in a Single Pedal [P900], and Double Pedal [P900-TW] and includes a foot pedal bag.

Mapex Gives Drummers the Best Seat In the House with New Back Supported Drum Throne
Mapex Drums is giving drummers a different kind of support – a new drum throne with an adjustable backrest for maximum comfort behind the drum kit. Fitted with four legs instead of the traditional three for additional strength and durability, the Mapex drum throne is truly designed for you to set it and forget it.
“For longer gigs, the back support becomes indispensible,” said Joe Hibbs, Product Manager for Mapex Drums. “But even if you are playing for twenty minutes at a time, this new throne goes a long way toward helping drummers use better posture when they are playing.”

Walden Continues to Go Green With Two New All Mahogany Guitars for Madera Line
Mt Juliet, TN – January, 2011 - Walden continues its eco-centric focus by introducing an FSC certified, responsibly forested Madera guitar composed of all-solid Mahogany. Built from 100% FSC-Pure certified tonewoods, this responsible wood guitar enables musicians to make purchasing decisions that benefit our environment and take part in reducing the over-consumption of world resources. With the suggested retail of $1,699 (including a deluxe hardshell case), the Walden Madera all-solid Mahogany guitars are the most affordable eco-friendly acoustic guitars in the world.
“Our Madera line of 100% certified FSC-Pure means that these instruments are constructed entirely of woods originating from responsibly managed forests. Fossalite Nut and Saddle Material Now Available On Walden Guitars
Mt. Juliet, TN – January, 2011 – Walden Guitars announces its partnership with Graphtech to produce a new material for the nut and saddle called Fossalite. Designed to increase the mid and upper bass harmonics, this new formulation also delivers better overall tone balance throughout the guitar.
“The decision to work with Graphtech was an easy one,” said Jon Lee, Chief Designer for Walden. “The company is already a well-established name in the guitar world. The durability and tonal balance offered by Fossalite is a testament to their top notch research and development. We are extremely excited to be the first guitar company using Fossalite.”
When instal led, the Fossal i te nut and saddle components look just the same as their bone or plastic counterparts, yet are composed of a polymer with similar characteristics of fossilized ivory.

The Glass Fiber reinforced necks will be found on all 500, 600 and 700 Series Natura and Concorda guitars. The optimized “dual-rail” support system mimics the existing Carbon Fiber reinforcement found in the 1000 Series and above. Glass fiber has high strength to weight characteristics and is dimensionally stable. Just like its Carbon fiber counterpart, Glass fiber has excellent acoustic properties.
