KFPS NEWS: No. 12 Wednesday 6th May, 2020 Dear Parents and Friends, Welcome to Week 4 of the term. Although there is much speculation in the media around the staged return for both students and the workforce in other states, we are still very much working and learning remotely here in Victoria. I know it is challenging for all. I know our staff are missing the connections that they have when students and staff are all on site at school. However, we are all in this together and I have been so impressed with everyone’s ability to get on with the task at hand. We know that some days might be a struggle and that some work might not be completed but all we ask is that you do your best. We are so very appreciative when parents leave a message on the parent portal or email or phone their child’s teacher to seek clarification or support with work tasks – keep doing this! The weekly WebEx online sessions are another way for your child to connect with their teacher and ask questions about the work. If you can get online, please go online. The teachers are available to support the learning. This week we are showcasing student writing and art work. Next week we shall have more student work to showcase from our remote learning packs! REMOTE LEARNING – Protocols and expectations Last week we stepped into the WebEx online platform to conduct the roll and to facilitate our Specialist classes. A massive thank you to families who persisted with the technology and let us know when it wasn’t working for you. Your patience and resilience was very much appreciated. This week your child has the opportunity to meet online with their class and teachers nearly every day at one point. Please check out your timetable to know when you are to be online to meet with your class and continue your learning. We have once again provided a list of the staff WebEx addresses in this newsletter to help you suc- cessfully get online. Remember to download the WebEx app so that you can access the classrooms. Whether you are learning at school or learning from home, we expect that our students uphold the school val- ues of Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Our Best. It is extremely important when students are working online that they are being safe, smart and sensible. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Team has designed a matrix that incorporates our school values with the behaviours, attitudes and actions that we would expect to see when students are working remotely. KFPS NEWS: No. 12 Wednesday 6th May,

2020

Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to Week 4 of the term. Although there is much speculation in the media

around the staged return for both students and the workforce in other states, we are still

very much working and learning remotely here in Victoria. I know it is challenging for all.

I know our staff are missing the connections that they have when students and staff are

all on site at school. However, we are all in this together and I have been so impressed

with everyone’s ability to get on with the task at hand. We know that some days might

be a struggle and that some work might not be completed but all we ask is that you do your best. We are so

very appreciative when parents leave a message on the parent portal or email or phone their child’s teacher to

seek clarification or support with work tasks – keep doing this! The weekly WebEx online sessions are another

way for your child to connect with their teacher and ask questions about the work. If you can get online, please

go online. The teachers are available to support the learning.

This week we are showcasing student writing and art work. Next week we shall have more student work to

showcase from our remote learning packs!

REMOTE LEARNING – Protocols and expectations

Last week we stepped into the WebEx online platform to conduct the roll and to

facilitate our Specialist classes. A massive thank you to families who persisted with

the technology and let us know when it wasn’t working for you. Your patience and

resilience was very much appreciated. This week your child has the opportunity to

meet online with their class and teachers nearly every day at one point.

Please check out your timetable to know when you are to be online to meet with your class and continue your

learning. We have once again provided a list of the staff WebEx addresses in this newsletter to help you suc-

cessfully get online. Remember to download the WebEx app so that you can access the classrooms.

Whether you are learning at school or learning from home, we expect that our students uphold the school val-

ues of Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Our Best. It is extremely important when students are

working online that they are being safe, smart and sensible. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

Team has designed a matrix that incorporates our school values with the behaviours, attitudes and actions that

we would expect to see when students are working remotely. Please share this with your child as it is essential

that they know and understand the safe and respectful ways in which we need them to work when online with

their teachers and class mates.

TRANSITION

Year 6 – Year 7:

Our Grade 6 students have received their infor-

mation pack and application form for secondary

school. The application form must be returned

to our school by Friday 29th May. In previous

years Grade 6 students and their families would

have received an invitation to attend their neigh-

bourhood secondary college for an information

evening in mid- May. Given the current COVID-

19 circumstances, all information nights and

on-site school tours are not permitted to go

ahead. Please refer to the information provided

by Crusoe College around logging onto their website for further information.

Foundation 2021:

Usually in May we are firing up to have school tours and information evenings for our prospective

Foundation students for the following year. Unfortunately given the current social distancing expec-

tations and staged restrictions we are not allowed to have people on site for non-essential purposes.

Therefore any school tours will be now made available in Term 3. However, I encourage those fami-

lies looking to find out more about our school to get onto our website and follow the links. The due

date for Foundation 2021 enrolments has been extended until 31st July.

MOTHER’S DAY

This Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day. Although our celebrations might be very

different this year due to the current social distancing measures that are in place, it

will be important that we still acknowledge the wonderful women in our lives- our

mums, step-mums, carers and nannas. However you spend this Sunday, please pick

up the phone and connect with loved ones. I am sending all our mums, carers and

grandmothers in our school community a flying hug and my best wishes for a wonderful day.

PLEASE PICK UP and RETURN HOME LEARNING PACKS in the Gym.

Each Friday we shall be asking families to collect their weekly Home Learning package from school. From now on

due to the imminent inclement weather the Home Learning packs will be collected from the Gym. You will be

asked to enter our school site at the pedestrian gate along Freeman Drive.

Home Learning packs will be available for collection from 2pm – 4pm each Friday at the Gym.

We ask that students return their current workbook (whether all the work is completed or not) on this same day.

Our teachers will provide feedback to your child around the work that has been completed.

Thought of the week

Kind Regards,

Kim Saddlier
