FLOATING ROOF SEAL SYSTEM

(KF-20 SECONDARY SEAL)

GENERAL INFORMATION

This manual is intented to introduce the practical standard, techniques and guidelines for the erection and installation

of the K-FLOAT External Floating Roof Seal and related operations and maintence.

The intention of this manual is to satisfy to the customer's convenience through the brief explanation and undestanding

of K-FLOAT External Floating Roof Seal design.

Also, it is intended to insure customer's satisfaction to the quality, reliability, proper function and long life inherent in

the K-FLOAT External Floating Roof Seal.

In addition to this manual, the customer's safety rules or local regulations, etc. which could be referred and adopted,

if applicable.

In this case, the contractor should be informed by the written confirmation regarding to customer's safety rules or

local regulations, etc., from the client

A. Installation of KF-20 secondary seal

Secondary seal is provided in accordance with secondary seal assembly drawings as attached which is

indicating the detailed location of compression plate. curtain seal and seal blade and other accessories.

B. Component

The seal parts consist of as followings :

Part no.

ITEM SG 50mm width - polyethylene foam adhesive tape

ITEM S14 channel clamp bars

ITEM S13 vapour barrier membrane (curtain seal)

ITEM S12 compression plate

ITEM S11 clamp washer

ITEM S10 seal blades saddle

ITEM S9 seal blade

ITEM S8 stainless steel shunts

C. Fasteners

M10 x 60L bolt and 2 nuts, washer (For fastening seal to rim angle)

Adhesive for joint to splice of curtain seal

Stainless steel saddles for joint to splice of seal blade

D. Use of components

1) Compression plate (S12)

The compression plates will be supplied with holes to match the existing rim spacing along one

edge and with bolts in position to take the rubber extrusions etc. along the other edge.

2) The clamp washer(S11) will be supplied with holes to match the bolts.

3) The vapour barrier membrane(S13) will be supplied in one continuous length with holes punched

along each edge.

4) The seal blade (S9) will be supplied in lengths of approximately with holes to match the bolts. (M10x35L)

5) The clamp washer(S11) will be supplied with holes to match the bolts.

6) Stainless steel shunts (S8) will be supplied for positioning at intervals of two(2) metre maximum.

The shounts should be commeted with compression plates.

It is assumed that the installation of the new secondary seal is being carried out in conjunction with the fitting

of a new primary seal curtain.

E. How to fix the fastener for rim plate

1) Use Hex. M10 x 60L bolt into the rim hole line to refer drawing no. KF-20-2 & 4

2) Bolt should be connected with M10 Nut and keep tighten all about condition that did not moved to bolt and

nut in rim plate.

F. How to install KF-20 secondary seal

The secondary seal is installed on the inside (roof side) of the vertical upstand.

1) Place another layer of the self - volara(adhesive) tape(SG) down on the vertical upstand over the bolting area,

pushing the material over the bolts nuts.

2) Place the curtain seal (S13) over the bolts.The two ends of the material should be overlapped by one(1) hole space and jointed using the adhesive(polyethylene)

apply adhesive to both surfaces, allow to dry until "tacky" (3-5 min.)

then carefully press the surfaces together(see sketch step.f (a) glued joint detail.)

3) Place the compression plates (S12) over the bolts and each plate will overlap the preceeding plate to clockwise

direction.

4) The channel clamp bars (S14) should be positioned and the nut applied bolt.

at this stage it is the best to only fingertighten the nuts on the bolts.

5) Proceed around the tank as above, which should be resulted in a series of compression plates being fixed in position

touching the tank shell along the top and with the vapour barrier membrane hanging loose in the rim space.

6) Position the vapour barrier membrane by hooking the holes in the free edge over the bolts in the top of the

compression plate.

7) Starting in the center of a compression plate, installation seal blades (wiper seal)(S9) by pushing over the seam

M10 x 35L bolt clamp washer nut joint work.

8) The joint in the seal blades(7) should be positioned in the center of a compression plate, the end of each length

being trimmed if necessary. The joint should be covered with a saddle (SEE DRAWING NO. KF-20-5) the

saddle being placed on the bolt spanning the joint area.

9) Continue installing the seal blades in this way until the whole circumference is complete.

At this stage the assembly should be checked and the compression plates adjusted if necessary to ensure the spaces

between each sheet are even. When this has been checked the nuts on the bolts holding the primary and

secondary seal to the rim should be fully tightened.

10) Continue this operation until the whole circumference is complete.

11) At a joint in the seal blades

Use stainless steel saddle located over the joint and M10 x 35L bolts, and hold in place

with plain clamp washer(SEE DRAWING NO. KF-20-5)

The nuts should then be applied to the bolts and tightened until assembly is in secure.

12) The stainless steel shunts (S8) will be installed for positioning at two(2)meter maximum intervals

(Every 4th Compression Plates.)

G. INSTALLATION IS NOW COMPLETE

The whole circumference should be checked to ensure the seal is making firm contact with the tank shell inside.

Seal Splicing (joining)

(a)Glued joint

Glue kits to achieve a glued splice will be included with the seal and will if carefully done give a satisfactory joint.

Assemble the seal until a complete circumference is achieved. Mark the fabric to give 100150mm overlap at splice

position.

The fabric must now be removed from the rim space and cut to length then placed on a flat surface for gluing.

Make up a board at least 370mm by 1200mm as shown.
