Mayor Brad Sewell called on Mark Brumfield to offer the Invocation, then led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance. City Clerk Tammy Todd conducted Roll Call. Council members present included. Meredith En sign, Emily Elliott, Sheryl Brown, Andrea Bowen, Mark Brumfield, Clifford Gordon, and Gwendolyn Williams. Upon declaring a quo rum, the Council approved the minutes of the July 20, 2015 regular meeting as read. The Council then ap proved the General Fund purchase order list in the amount of $18,639.66. There were no public appearances. Discuss, consider, and take action to appoint Lou Brock for Council member Ward 4. The Council quickly approved the appointment of Mr. Brock to the Ward 4 seat. Mayor Sewell administered the Oath of Office and Mr. Brock was seated. Discuss, consider, and take action regarding the designation of Paw nee as a Purple Heart City. Upon hearing the presen tation from Carpenter, the (Continued to Page 3) The traveling roadshow of professional rodeo stops in Pawnee this week as the gates swing open for the 30th annual Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo, August 6,7 and 8,2015,8:00 p.m., at Lakeside Arena. Sanctioned by the Inter national Professional Ro deo Association (IPRA), the Pawnee Bill Memorial is a $ 1500 per event added money rodeo that attracts many of the best cowboys and cowgirls active in the Association, according to Ronnie Jestes, Chairman of the Rodeo Committee. “Our added money, coupled with the quality of our stock contractor, and our schedule, particularly the Thursday night per formance, makes us very attractive to professional performers on the IPRA circuit,” Jestes added. The Hampton Rodeo Company, Springdale, Ar kansas, returns to Pawnee to produce the show. They are a 16 time winner of the IPRA Stock Contactor of the Year award, most re cently at IFR45 last January in Oklahoma City. Making a first appear ance in Pawnee as rodeo announcer is Perry, Okla homa native Monty Stueve. He replaces longtime rodeo announcer Danny Newland who retired at the end of last season. Rodeo clown Dusty Myers, Jumpertown, Mis sissippi, a 5 time IPRA Clown of the Year recip ient, returns to Pawnee as the comedy act and barrel man. The Cowgirl Sweethearts Trick Riders, featuring Lindy Nealey, Bloomington, Illinois, the 2014 IPRA Contract Act Showcase Champion, returns to the Pawnee Bill Memorial for the second time. In addition to the seven IPRA sanctioned events, the rodeo features three locally produced events, wild cow milking, wild horse racing and ranch bronc riding. “These events are very popular with our audience and give local cowboys a chance to show their skill and courage,” stated Jestes. Pre-rodeo activities be gin at the arenaat 7:30 p.m. nightly with the presenta tion of the 2015 Honoree, Morris McKill. McKill, a lifelong Pawnee area resident, is recognized by the Rodeo Committee for his years of service to the community and to the rodeo. Prior to the Saturday night go-round the Paw nee Bill Memorial Rodeo Queen Pageant winners are announced with awards presented in the Princess, Teen Queen and Queen di visions. School Board prepares for new academic year The Board of Education of Pawnee Independent School District, No. 1001, met in regular session, Monday, August 3, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., at the Pawnee High School Library Media room. The meeting was called to order by President, Suzanne Spears, and roll call was taken by Velvet Thurber. Present were: Suzanne Spears, President; Gary Vance, Clerk; Dr. Gene Evans, Vice Presi dent; J.C. Higgins, Mem ber; Vic Bruns, Member; Ned Williams, Superinten dent; Tracy Burnett, Ele mentary Principal; Stacy Womack, Middle School Principal; Bobby Miller, High School Principal; Cheryl Ryan, Treasurer; Velvet Thurber, Minutes Clerk. Guests included: Chuck Crooks, CBEW; Lori Henry, PTO repre sentative. Review and approval of the June29,2015, minutes (Regular Board Meeting). Approved. Letters: Open, discuss, and vote on matters en closed. Pat Haley: Letter of Resignation. Mr. Williams and the Board expressed their ap preciation to Mr. Haley for his service and dedication to the students of Pawnee Public School. The Board voted to accept the resig nation. Discussion and vote to accept the2014-2015 audit results. Mr. Chuck Crooks, CBEW presented the school audit. All programs and funds were in balance and no audit inconsisten cies were discovered. The Board voted to approved the audit results. Discussion and vote to approve PTO activi ties and fundraisers for 2015-2016. The Board approved the fundraisers and activities. August Set up a booth at elementary enrollment night in the cafeteria. Send out membership flyers in backpacks. Institute a request form for teachers and put them in mailboxes. September Start monthly meetings the 3 rd Monday of each month at 6:30 pm, at the First Baptist Church Chapel. October Fall Festival-date and details-TBA. December Ugly Christmas Sweater Dance for Middle Schools- TBA. January Canned Food Drive. February 13th and 14 th -Valentine Bake Sale at the Middle School and High School. May End of School Dance for the middle school in the cafeteria. Discussion and vote to approve contract with Keystone Food Service. The Board voted to approve the contract with Keystone Food Service to provide the breakfast and lunch meals for 2015-2016. Discussion and vote to join OSS BA's Policy Service. Mr. Williams recom mended that the Board renew this contract. The Board approved the rec ommendation. Discussion and vote to hire Title VII Personnel. The Title VII Parent Committee recommended the following individuals for the Title VII positions: Elementary Tutor: Amon LeRoy; MS/HS Tutor: Chris Gordon. The Board approved the recommen dation. Discussion and vote to hire Jackie Young as media specialist. Mr. Williams recom mended that the Board hire Mrs. Young as media specialist. The Board approved the recommen dation. Discussion and vote to hire LeEllen Waren as middle schoollhigh school counselor. Mr. Williams recom mended that the Board hire Mrs. Waren as middle school/high school coun selor. Mrs. Waren has been employed as elementary special education teacher. The Board approved the recommendation. Discussion and vote to hire Danielle Lesh as elementary teacher. Mr. Williams recom mended that the Board hire Mrs. Lesh as elemen tary teacher. Mrs. Lesh has 13 years of teaching experience in Georgia. The Board approved the recommendation. Discussion and vote to hire Pam Kilgariff as special education teacher. Mr. Williams recom mended that the Board hire Mrs. Kilgariff as special education teacher. Mrs. Kilgariff has many years of teaching experience in the State of Kansas. The Board approved the rec ommendation. Discussion and vote to approve the contract for secondary career educa tion programs (VoAg and Family and Consumer Sciences) for 2015-2016. Mr. Williams recom mended that the Board approve this annual con tract to offer Vocational Agriculture and Family and Consumer Sciences class es at the middle school/ high school. The Pawnee City Coun­cil met in regular session in City Hall, Monday, August 3,2015. Mayor Brad Sewell called on Mark Brumfield to offer the Invocation, then led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.

City Clerk Tammy Todd conducted Roll Call. Council members present included. Meredith En­sign, Emily Elliott, Sheryl Brown, Andrea Bowen, Mark Brumfield, Clifford Gordon, and Gwendolyn Williams.

Upon declaring a quo­rum, the Council approved the minutes of the July 20, 2015 regular meeting as read.

The Council then ap­

proved the General Fund purchase order list in the amount of $18,639.66.

There were no public appearances.

Discuss, consider, and take action to appoint Lou Brock for Council member Ward 4. The Council quickly approved the appointment of Mr. Brock to the Ward 4 seat. Mayor Sewell administered the Oath of Office and Mr. Brock was seated.

The traveling roadshow of professional rodeo stops in Pawnee this week as the gates swing open for the 30th annual Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo, August 6,7 and 8,2015,8:00 p.m., at Lakeside Arena.

Sanctioned by the Inter­national Professional Ro­deo Association (IPRA), the Pawnee Bill Memorial is a $ 1500 per event added money rodeo that attracts many of the best cowboys and cowgirls active in the Association, according to Ronnie Jestes, Chairman of the Rodeo Committee.
