A French Flavour—The 2017 Festival also features the 40th Anniversary of the town’s twining with Libourne in France, and guests from the French town will be in Keynsham for Festival week. The Twining Association are hosting an anniversary ball/dance during the Festival on the Friday night (30

th June) – Strictly Come Keynsham, with a

full swing/dance band and quick on-the-floor-tuition for the Waltzes, Paso Dobles and Tan-gos! Tickets will be available quite soon. So dig out the ballroom dress-es and make sure you’re there! It will certainly be a ball in a one sense, and another first for Keynsham.

Music and Dance—Dance will be a big theme this year. We are again working with Bath Dance and there will be an extra Dance Stage and marquee in The Park devoted to a whole range of Dance performance over both days of the weekend – from folk to ballet and by children and professionals

Two other big special events are in the pipe-line but currently subject to funding confirmation – look out for announcements! Meanwhile all the usual are falling into place, promising a whole range of music across the week, and all the fun of the fair in The Park on the Saturday and Sunday.

At The Space—The 29th of April is a date many will be looking forward to: The people who brought you the totally sold out An-Ting Chan concert last autumn pulled off another coup and now present Bath’s Pump Room Trio in a concert. We are told they have only performed publicly outside the Pump Room seven times in 30 years! Here they will present a selection of their favourite music including Strauss, Schoen-berg and Cole Porter. Anniversary of KMF The Directors of Keynsham Music Festival are aiming to make the 20th anniversary of the Festival a special celebratory occasion. A few specials can be announced now …….

Bread Over Bombs – the collective of session musicians from Los Angeles, will be playing at the 20th Anniversary Keynsham Music Festival this summer!

The band of well-known studio session musicians, who are also a USA registered charity, are devoted to supporting food banks all over the world. They have recently contributed £1500 to the Keynsham food bank. Brad Mitchell, leader of the collective says: We are thrilled to be able to participate and can't wait to see you all in person! Thanks for the amazing opportunity to be able to play at the festival!

As if they should be thanking us! says Festival organiser Ric Davison. A taste of Bread over Bombs music can be seen on the Festival FB page, and their album can be listened to and purchased in Longwell Records, where owner Ian Aitcheson was fundamental in making their Keynsham link.

Keynsham Art Space Group

Keynsham ArtSpace was launched in November 2015 as a result of the drive and initiative of local Councillor Judith Cron an (former Councillor) Zoe Wilkins.

The objective was to provide a temporary gallery space and pop-up shop for local artists to display their work and to offer

shoppers the chance to buy locally made art and craftwork.

Bath and North East Somerset Council provided funding to enable an empty re-tail unit in the new Market Walk develop-ment to be taken over for several weeks in the lead-up to Christmas 2015.

The launch coincided with the annual Winter Festival, which meant footfall was high and a large number of Keynsham residents and visitors were able to dis-cover the delightful and varied range of art and craftwork available.

The artists involved were so pleased with this unexpected op-portunity that they quickly formed the ArtSpace Group and opened ‘ArtSpace 2’ as a pop-up shop in Temple Street during Spring 2016.

ArtSpace 3 was successfully launched in the form of a marquee in the park during the Keynsham Music Festival last July. The group have been taken under the umbrel-la of the Keynsham Arts Consorti-um, and there is plenty of encour-aging goodwill and support being shown by members of both Keynsham and BANES Councils.

There were no empty units availa-ble last December so when a last minute cancellation at Walcot Chapel in Bath presented itself we grabbed the opportunity and suc-cessfully used the space as ArtSpace 4.

There will be a range of arts activities around the town this year, including the challenge of utilising a decommissioned BT phone box in Temple Street, which the group will jointly own with Keynsham Pavilion.

The group is fairly nomadic in nature at the moment, however it is hoped that a more permanent venue can be found. This would then allow a whole range of activities and projects to be planned for.

Natalie Holmes returns to Keynsham with full band for Bath Festivals date

Singer/songwriter Natalie Holmes returns to Keynsham on Saturday, March 11 (start time 7:30pm) with a special gig that’s presented by Bath Festivals. The show will feature the debut performance with Natalie’s band, showcasing songs from her upcoming EP out April 2017.

Natalie writes beautifully honest, level-headed pop/folk tunes brought to life with a delicately angelic voice on a canvas of acoustic guitar and piano. An independent artist building her fan base entirely from scratch, she kick-started her musical career by uploading songs and now has over a million hits on YouTube, thousands

of subscribers and a loyal following on social media. Alt-hough just into her twenties, Natalie has clocked up three successful EP’s: The Simplest Things, Child and her most recent release, Over & Out all of which featured in the iTunes and Top 10 Singer/Songwriter Charts. Her fourth EP will be released in April 2017.

We need community groups to volunteer to paint and plant up a bike or two.
