Keynote Speaker ANNA MARIA FARÍAS Anna María Farías serves as the Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where she leads the President's efforts to combat housing discrimination and promote equal opportunity throughout the nation. Since assuming her current position, Ms. Farías has secured an increase in funding to FHEO partner agencies to conduct fair housing enforcement and education and outreach activities; led the Department’s increased focus on addressing discriminatory sexual harassment in housing; stepped up HUD’s efforts to fight discrimination against families with children; strengthened the Department’s commitment to combating discrimination impacting persons with disabilities; and expanded FHEO’s determination to take on other forms of discrimination that prevent some individuals and families from obtaining the housing of their choice. During her previous tenure at HUD, from 2001 to 2008, Ms. Farías served in several capacities, including Senior Counsel to former HUD Secretary Mel Martinez, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Initiatives, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Grant Programs (CDBG), and Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.

ANNA MARIA FARÍAS

Anna María Farías serves as the Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) at the

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where she leads the President's efforts to combat housing

discrimination and promote equal opportunity throughout the nation.

Since assuming her current position, Ms. Farías has secured an increase in funding to FHEO partner agencies to
